Take one gallbladder from a male pig, decoct it over a mild fire in a silver pot until it becomes an ointment. After cooling, add two or three *li* of powdered *Bingpian* (Borneolum Syntheticum) and instill into the eyes; gradually, the corneal opacity will feel lighter. Additionally, dry the white membrane skin inside the pig's gallbladder, roll it into small ropes resembling hairpins, burn them to charcoal while preserving their medicinal properties (*Cunxing*), and apply to the opacity; even severe cases can be treated.
When pockmark toxin enters the eyes, some present with redness, swelling, pain, and inability to open the eyes, while others are obscured by corneal opacity leading to blindness. Discussions in ancient medical texts and popular legends all attribute this to pockmarks entering the eye, failing to realize that this is not a有形 (tangible) sore, but rather an无形 (intangible) toxin. The opacity obscuring the pupil resembles a pockmark but is actually different. Internal sores also resolve. Only the toxin of pockmark eyes arises specifically during the scabbing-off stage or after recovery, which is distinctly different from pockmarks in the throat, mouth, and tongue; thus, we know it is not a tangible sore. The eye is the essence of the Qi and Blood of the five Zang organs. When pockmark toxin stagnates in the skin and muscles, it manifests as carbuncles or furuncles; however, when it remains in the essence of the eye, it causes eye diseases. Since the toxin has lodged in the realm of Qi, Blood, and essence, the pathology is deep. Therefore, patients should seek timely treatment and expect results after dozens of doses; one must not act rashly or expect immediate effects within a few doses. Why? After suffering from pocks, the person's Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is already weak, and the received toxin is profound. Moreover, the toxin-fire manifests on the exterior and occupies the highest position (the head). If cold and cooling herbs are suddenly used to aggressively attack the interior and promote purgation downwards, it will damage the Yuan Qi and contradict the disease trend, inevitably leading to blindness. Furthermore, other symptoms may arise, causing greater harm. One must use Qingdu Bo Yi Tang (Clear Toxin and Remove Opacity Decoction) to treat the condition calmly, allowing the toxic vapors to recede gradually without damaging the Yuan Qi. This prescription is indeed an excellent method. Strictly forbid fumigation and washing therapies. If left untreated for a long time, it will also lead to blindness. Many suffer from this condition; if they do not know the treatment method, what is there to blame?
