Note: The previous two formulas are commonly used by people, so they are preserved for reference. One might ask: How effective are Xi Xin San (Heart-Washing Powder) and Xi Gan San (Liver-Washing Powder) in treating eye diseases? The answer is: Since the formulas are named "washing," their purgative and draining nature can be inferred. They are intended for individuals with strong constitution and robust Qi. When such persons contract wind-cold, the external pathogen enters the Cou Li (interstices), preventing internal fire from dissipating. The excess heat flares upward, rushing into the eye orifices, causing sudden redness, swelling, pain, and constipation. This formula is used temporarily to disperse the pathogen; otherwise, it should not be tested indiscriminately. Human constitutions vary, so one cannot adhere rigidly to these methods.
