Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) (a small amount), Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Dengxincao (Papyrus Medulla) (three strands), decocted with water and taken orally.
After birth, the infant feels cold in the mouth and hot in the abdomen, with loose stools due to intestinal slipping, drowsiness and excessive sleep, or crying frequently at night; this is termed Fetal Cold (Tai Han). It is caused by the mother's preference for raw and cold foods, or excessive intake of cooling medicines after contracting external pathogens, thereby damaging the fetal qi. Treat with Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill) and Yunqi San (Harmonize Qi Powder).
Jiegeng (Radix Platycodi), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) each two qian; Sharen (Fructus Amomi Rotundus) five fen; Huixiang (Fructus Foeniculi, stir-fried) five fen; Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, processed) two fen; Fengcao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, honey-fried) four fen; add Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae) two fen. Grind all into a fine powder. Take one zi dose per administration, mixed with jujube soup.
For infants born with edematous obesity and reddish skin throughout the body, who gradually become emaciated and suffer from vexation and heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest) after one month old, this is named Fetal Fatness (Tai Fei). For those born without luster in the face, lacking blood color in the body, with dull eyes and emaciated muscles, this is named Fetal Frailty (Tai Qie). Both conditions are treated internally with Bawu Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction) and externally with bathing methods.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, stir-fried), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Baifuling (Sclerotium Poriae Cum Rosa) in equal parts. Use ginger and jujube as guides, decoct with water and take orally.
Tianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Xieshao (Tail of Scorpion) each five fen; Zhusha (Cinnabar) five fen; Baifan (Alumen) three qian; Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) two qian. Shexiang (Moschus) a small amount; Wuaoshao She meat (soaked in wine, roasted and ground) three qian. Grind all into a fine powder. Use three qian each time, with three bowls of water and a handful of peach branches with leaves. Decoct together until boiling ten times. Wait until warm and bathe the infant; strictly avoid bathing the back.
For infants born with yellowing of the whole body and face, resembling gold in color, accompanied by high fever, constipation, urine resembling gardenia juice, and loss of appetite for milk and food, this is all Fetal Jaundice (Tai Huang). It is caused by heat in the nursing mother transmitting to the fetus. Treat with Dihuang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction).
Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Tianhuafen (Radix Platycodonis), Chifu (Sclerotium Poriae Cum Rosa), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), Mutong (Caulis Akebiae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Yichen (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae) in equal parts. Decoct with water and take warm.
For infants born with high fever, eyes rolling upward, clenched fists, gritted teeth, rigidity of the body and waist, surging saliva with vomiting, convulsions, startled crying, retracted cheeks, open fontanelles, or red cheeks with blue complexion and closed eyes, or fetal wind causing eye closure, do not mistakenly diagnose as Slow Spleen Wind (Man Pi Feng). Do not recklessly use herbal decoctions. Observe the qi color between the eyebrows: if bright red and green-blue, it is treatable; if dark black or blue-black, it is untreatable. If the tiger-mouth fingerprint curves inward, it is treatable; if it extends outward, it is untreatable. This occurs because the pregnant woman's care deviates from norms, such as drinking alcohol, craving meat, anger, fright, or physical trauma; whatever affects the mother impacts the fetus. Alternatively, external wind pathogens may harm the fetus. Thus, the child inherits the maternal qi and falls ill immediately after birth. Administer Zhisheng Baoming Dan (Supreme Life-Preserving Treasure Pill), taken down with Yinjin (Silver thread) and Dengxincao (Papyrus Medulla) decoction.
