Grind the above into fine powder. Before going to bed, place an amount equivalent to "one character" (approx. 0.5-1g) under the tongue; it does not hinder swallowing saliva, and one will recover by dawn. Another method: replace Luqing with Tonglü (Malachite).

Teeth are the gatekeepers, the flourishing aspect of the Kidney, and the remainder of the bones. When Kidney qi declines, teeth become loose and fall out; when essence is secure, teeth remain firm. Additionally, collateral branches of the Large Intestine distribute to the gums, primarily irrigating the teeth. If the Large Intestine is obstructed, teeth become floating; if deficient, roots are exposed; if complicated by wind, the condition attacks the eyes and face; if complicated by childhood malnutrition (Gan syndrome), teeth decay and fall out, leading to hemorrhoids. All these arise from qi stagnation. Although the syndromes differ, treatments vary by formula. An Shen Wan (Kidney-Anchoring Pill) and Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) both treat toothache, swelling, and edema caused by deficiency and obstruction.
An Shen Wan See the section on Lower Back Pain for the formula.
Ba Wei Wan See the section on Beriberi/Jiaogiqi for the formula.
Zhu Ya Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructis Spina) and Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Xi Guo Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma from Western regions), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Mu Lü (likely referring to Hu Huang Lian / Coptidis Rhizoma or similar bitter cold herb), Han Lian Cao (Ecliptae Herba), Huai Jiao Zi (Sophorae Tonkinensis Fructus), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), He Ye (Nelumbinis Folium) should be used in equal proportions (use the center of the cut lotus leaf).
Qing Yan (Halitum) in equal parts, roasted together, ground into fine powder for best results. It strengthens teeth, darkens beard and hair. Who would know such a celestial prescription exists in the world?
To strengthen teeth and dispel wind-cold. To treat exposed tooth roots; effective regardless of age.
Huai Zhi (Branches of Sophora Tree) Liu Zhi (Branches of Willow Tree) (each four cun long, a handful chopped) Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, non-seed type, seven pods) Yan (Salt, weighing forty wen)
Place all together in a porcelain bottle, seal tightly with yellow mud, burn with chaff fire for one night. Take out when cool, grind into fine powder, and use as usual. A monk abbot of Shi Fo Nunnery, over seventy years old, said his ancestors often suffered from toothache and loss. Obtaining this prescription, they used it for generations, resulting in white, neat, and dense teeth. Indeed, it is an excellent prescription.
