To treat Qi Jue (Qi Syncope). Although not recorded in standard formularies, excessive joy damages Yang qi, while excessive anger damages Yin blood. Sorrow and frustration often lead to qi rebellion and syncope, frequently causing illness. Patients may feel phlegm-saliva obstructing the throat and jaw stiffness. If treated as Wind-Stroke (Zhong Feng), it is not only inappropriate but often fatal. In the past, a woman suddenly suffered from Qi Jue, with clenched teeth and overflowing saliva. An internal medicine physician treated her as having Wind-Stroke, administering strong purgatives (Da Tong Li Yao), resulting in multiple episodes of diarrhea and death within one night. What a pity! Upon encountering such a syndrome, urgently dissolve 4-5 pills of Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pills) and administer them orally; the patient will regain consciousness. Subsequently, regulate the condition according to specific needs, and recovery is assured.
Suhexiang You (Styrax Oil, 1 liang, incorporated into Anxi Xiang Gao/Ambergris Paste) Xunlu Xiang (Frankincense, 1 liang, ground) Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, crushed) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, de-rhizome remnants removed) Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) Baitanxiang (Santalum Album Lignum, separately ground into powder...).
