Shuiyin (Mercurius), Sheng Liuhuang (Sulfur, one qian, ground separately).

The *Suwen* states: "When the Yang pulse is knotted, it is called Ge (obstruction)." Qi and Shen (Spirit) both belong to Yang. Leisure allows Qi and Shen to be peaceful; labor causes Qi and Shen to be depleted. If cold and warmth are not regulated properly, or if diet is excessive, emotional disturbances (Seven Emotions) cause injury, disturbing both Qi and Shen. This causes Yang Qi to knot first, followed by disorder of Yin Qi. When Yin and Yang are disharmonious, Zang-Fu organs become diseased. Knotting in the chest and diaphragm results in Ge syndrome. Flow of Qi into the throat results in Wuye (Five Chokes). The five Ges are caused by worry, resentment, cold, heat, and Qi stagnation; the five Yeys are caused by worry, thought, food, Qi, and labor. With proper regulation, Ge and Ye diseases will not arise. There is also a condition of lower deficiency where Qi rushes upward to control the diaphragm, causing hardness, fullness, and tightness below the heart, bitter bi-sensation in the muscles, pain like needles that varies in intensity, and inability to bend or extend, named Xiongpi (chest distension/stagnation).
Treats Wuye (Five Chokes), inability to eat, vomiting, hiccups, excessive phlegm, throat obstruction, and fullness/pain in the chest and back.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, soaked in boiling water seven times), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Jingmi (Oryzae Semen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Bidengqie (Galangali Fructus), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, avoid direct fire), Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium, half liang).
Grind the above into fine powder. Take two qian each time, with one zhuan of water and seven slices of ginger, decoct until six parts remain. Take warm after meals.
