昔日天天都在推销A、A、B、B,是否A、A、B、B感冒病毒已消失了呢?

The crying sound of a newborn infant is not the infant crying, but rather the sound produced when the lungs are impacted by air, similar to a parachute expanding and being supported by air. If an infant does not cry upon birth, it indicates that the alveoli cannot expand to accommodate air, leading to immediate danger. At this time, holding the child upside down and stimulating the Yongquan acupoint (KI-1) on the soles of the feet can help. Since Yongquan is the Jing-well (Wood) point of the Kidney Meridian, where Yin energy reaches its extreme, generating Yang at the extremity of Yin. When True Yang arises, the Qi of the Kidney and Heart, both belonging to the Shaoyin meridian, connects through the throat. Once the throat opens, air can enter the lungs, allowing the infant to revive.
Postnatal respiration refers to air acting under the influence of sunlight and clear water. Due to cold and heat changes, air rises, descends, expands, and contracts, thereby regulating the five Zang organs. This involves the transformative effects of Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, and Fire. If the five Zang organs can regulate these factors in balance, hundreds of diseases will not arise.
At birth, an infant's Zang and Fu organs are extremely weak, and their ability to regulate the Five Qi has not yet fully adapted to the external environment. This symptom of maladaptation caused by improper regulation of the Five Qi is called "Ganmao" (Common Cold). Therefore, Ganmao is referred to as injury by Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, or Heat. It signifies that the five Zang organs failed to appropriately harmonize Wind, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, and Cold.
Recall people over forty or fifty years old; as children, how many did not have noses running with white mucus resembling two white dogs? This is because, from leaving the maternal body to breathing air, the lungs transition from prenatal glandular qi-electric respiration (fetal breath) to postnatal respiration of air. Since the infant's five Zang and six Fu organs are not fully developed, they cannot completely adapt to the changes of Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, and Fire. Water vapor in the air condenses into nasal mucus and phlegm in the nose and throat. This is not inflammation of the nose or throat—neither acute nor chronic inflammation. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treats nasal mucus and phlegm by dispelling Wind, scattering Cold, clearing Summerheat, removing Dampness, and descending Fire, while also tonifying Qi to assist lung development. As one grows up, the five Zang organs develop completely and can regulate the Five Qi, naturally stopping nasal discharge and Ganmao.
When the regulatory functions of the five Zang organs over the Five Qi (ascending, descending, contracting, expanding, stabilizing) are disordered, the resulting symptoms due to disharmony are called Ganmao. Among the symptoms manifested by the Five Qi (Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) in the body, only twenty percent are inflammations caused by Fire, which belong to the ascending nature of Qi and can be cured by anti-inflammatory treatment. The remaining eighty percent do not involve the ascending nature of Qi and cannot be cured by anti-inflammatories. This is why modern medicine, lacking understanding of TCM's Five Elements generation and restriction cycles, makes grave errors and harms patients.
IV. Why do children get Ganmao?
(1) What is allergy? Why does allergy occur?
Children suffer daily from runny noses, sore throats, sneezing, coughing, fever, itchy eyes... endless sneezing... Is this allergy? Is it sinusitis? Is it acute or chronic inflammation of the nose? Why does allergy occur? What are allergens? Why does sinusitis occur? What is acute or chronic inflammation of the nose? A series of questions, many illnesses that resist cure for long periods, even worsening with treatment, leave young parents exhausted and tearful. Why? What should be done? The public fears Ganmao more than snakes and scorpions. Why?
Modern medicine classifies runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, coughing, and fever associated with Ganmao as infectious inflammation, caused by bacteria and viruses invading the body, resulting in acute or chronic inflammation throughout the body. With the use of antibiotics for sterilization and anti-inflammation, alongside advancements in medical technology and quality, why can some children's bacteria and viruses never be eradicated despite repeated attempts? Why do bacteria become more stubborn and viruses more toxic? Why?
The nose, trachea, and skin serve as pathways for the entry and exit of the Five Qi (Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) in our bodies. These Five Qi are regulated and utilized by the five Zang organs. Symptoms arising from the five Zang organs' inability to properly regulate the Five Qi are termed injury by Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, or Heat, which constitutes Ganmao.
Getting wet in rain leads to Ganmao—Injury by Dampness. Exposure to wind leads to Ganmao—Injury by Wind. Sun exposure leads to Ganmao—Heat Ganmao, Injury by Summerheat or Summer-Wind. Wearing too little, sleeping without covers, excessive air conditioning, or getting chilled while bathing/playing in water leads to Ganmao—Injury by Wind or Cold. Why does one keep getting Ganmao, whether hot or cold?
Winter Ganmao is mostly Injury by Cold; summer Ganmao is mostly Injury by Summerheat and Wind. Ganmao results from the five Zang organs' inability to regulate temperature changes, producing surface-level symptoms (Biao Zheng). In winter, we see white, warm vapor exhaled from the mouth and nose; sweat after summer activities or exercise is also warm. This warm respiratory vapor or sweat, along with the water vapor of Wind, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, and Cold contained in the air, if not regulated by the five Zang organs, condenses in the nose as mucus, in the throat as phlegm, on the skin as fever (see section on causes of fever), in the lungs as phlegm or pulmonary effusion, in the nasopharynx as nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and below the heart/stomach area as uremia. Condensed mucus and phlegm are categorized as Wind-phlegm, Hot-fire phlegm, Cold-phlegm, Damp-phlegm, or Deficiency-phlegm. Different condensation sites result in different disease names. All stem from improper handling of Damp-phlegm due to exposure to Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire, or improper diet/treatment. Therefore, treating phlegm requires distinguishing the type of phlegm and the specific location/meridian involved.
Symptoms like nasal mucus and phlegm during Ganmao vary by Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire, or Deficiency. They are not necessarily acute or chronic inflammation of the nose, throat, lungs, trachea, or bronchi... TCM calls this "Fire Qi" or "Hot Qi." Western medicine lacks the concept of "Fire," adding the radical for fire to create "Yan" (Inflammation). Types include Wind-Heat (Wind-Fire), Liver-Fire (Hepatitis); Summerheat-Heat, Heart-Fire (Pericarditis); Damp-Heat, Spleen/Stomach-Fire, Intestinal-Fire (Gastroenteritis); Dryness-Fire, Lung-Fire (Pneumonia, Tracheitis, Bronchitis); Deficient-Heat, Deficient-Fire, Kidney-Fire (Nephritis). The Kidney belongs to Water and cannot undergo inflammation; instead, it is represented by Ministerial Fire (Fire within Water).
Fire represents the ascending nature of Qi. Among the Five Qi (Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire), Fire accounts for only one-fifth. Thus, only twenty percent of Ganmao cases involve inflammation curable by anti-inflammatories. Other Ganmao types involve descending Qi (Cold), expanding Qi (Wind), contracting Qi (Dryness), and stabilizing Qi (Dampness), none of which are ascending. Anti-inflammatories are ineffective and harmful in these cases.
Patients with common sore throats often find that anti-inflammatories fail to cure them. Only one-fifth of sore throat cases are inflammatory and curable by anti-inflammatories. The remaining four-fifths are non-inflammatory but misdiagnosed as acute or chronic inflammation, leading to failure to cure. Consequently, eighty percent of patients suffer harm from drug-induced anti-inflammation. Treatment should not blindly suppress Fire/anti-inflammation. Many pediatric patients treated long-term with American drugs for sore throats develop moon face and buffalo hump (Cushingoid features). What kind of science is this?
The Heart belongs to Fire, and the Lungs belong to Metal. Metal is like a pot. The interaction between Heart and Lungs is like fire boiling water in a pot. The moisture in the air entering the lungs every second condenses into nasal mucus and phlegm because Heart Fire is weak, lacking the power to heat the moisture in Lung Metal into steam or sweat for expulsion. Nasal mucus and phlegm are condensations of damp-water vapor, not inflammation of the nose, throat, lungs, trachea, or bronchi. Even white or yellow phlegm in the throat is sometimes falsely diagnosed by ENT specialists as pus, leading to aggressive anti-inflammatory treatment.
Why does suppressing Fire make it worse? Using anti-inflammatories to suppress Fire in non-inflammatory conditions damages Heart Fire. Since the Heart belongs to Fire, weaker Fire means a weaker Heart, which fails to evaporate Lung Metal's water vapor. Water-dampness condenses more in the nose and throat. This creates a vicious cycle: weaker Fire leads to more condensation; more anti-inflammation leads to easier condensation.
Anti-inflammatories weaken the Heart and Lungs. The weaker they become, the less capable they are of processing inhaled air to harmonize the five Zang organs. Modern medicine, ignoring the distinction between Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, and Fire in Ganmao, treats all illnesses from head to toe as infections—acute or chronic inflammation—and applies anti-inflammatories/suppresses Fire. This is the main reason children suffer from persistent Ganmao today.
Treating Ganmao requires distinguishing between Injury by Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, and Dryness/Fire. Fire implies inflammation; medication should distinguish between dispelling Wind, scattering Cold, clearing Summerheat, removing Dampness, descending Fire/anti-inflammation, and moistening Dryness to restore health.
Sore throat itching and urge to cough after wind exposure or air conditioning, incessant sneezing and runny nose upon waking... Frequent Ganmao sufferers are not necessarily allergic. Overuse of anti-inflammations has weakened the five Zang organs (Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys), rendering them unable to regulate the Five Qi. Tonifying Lung Qi and strengthening the Heart enhances the five Zang organs' regulatory function.
If Heart Fire is strong enough to heat Lung Metal's water vapor into steam or sweat, Ganmao ceases, and allergic symptoms disappear. Anti-inflammation only causes Zang organ weakness; how can children recover?
Understanding TCM, the nose and throat are merely pathways for Wind, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, and Cold. Thus, Otolaryngology should not exist as a separate discipline in TCM. Yet, it is currently the busiest department. Weak children subjected to long-term suctioning of phlegm and mucus suffer damage to nasal mucosa and throats, making them less adaptable to climate changes and more prone to Ganmao. To establish correct medical concepts, accurate diagnosis is essential:
1. Diagnosing and treating diseases by Time Periods
The twelve meridians correspond to the twelve double-hours of the day: Zi (Gallbladder), Chou (Liver), Yin (Lungs), Mao (Large Intestine), Chen (Stomach), Si (Spleen), Wu (Heart), Wei (Small Intestine), Shen (Bladder), You (Kidney), Xu (Pericardium), Hai (San Jiao).
Mnemonic: Lungs at Yin, Large Intestine at Mao, Stomach at Chen; Spleen at Si, Heart at Wu, Small Intestine at Wei; Bladder at Shen, Kidney at You, Pericardium at Xu; San Jiao at Hai, Gallbladder at Zi, Liver at Chou.
Observing onset at a specific time period indicates that the corresponding meridian/Zang-Fu failed to fulfill its task at that time, signifying a disease of that meridian. For example, morning sneezing occurs during Yin, Mao, Chen, Si hours, indicating Spleen/Lung Qi Deficiency, not nasal inflammation. Tonifying Qi and dispelling Wind cures it, using Buzhong Yiqi Tang or Guipi Tang plus Fuzi, Baizhi, Fangfeng; add Longdancao if bitter taste is present.
Nighttime asthma attacks occur during Shen, You, Xu, Hai hours, indicating Kidney/Pericardium Deficiency. For Kidney Deficiency, tonify the Kidney, or tonify Lung Metal to generate Kidney Water, or tonify Heart Yang to warm the Kidney. Asthma resolves. Use Shenqi Wan, Buzhong Yiqi Tang, or Guipi Tang plus Rongyang, Cordyceps, Chuanbei to tonify Qi and warm the Kidney.
Some children cough before dawn, indicating Qi Deficiency cough; coughing at 1-2 AM indicates Liver/Gallbladder affected by Wind generating Phlegm. Tonify Lungs, warm Kidneys, resolve Phlegm using Shisiwei Jianzhong Tang. Long-term use of Western bronchodilators causes elastic fatigue in trachea/bronchi, leading to asthma later.
2. Diagnosing and treating diseases by Temperature/Climate
Sneezing, runny nose, coughing, asthma in hot weather indicate Hot Cough, Hot Asthma, or Blood Stasis Cough/Asthma. Avoid dry/hot foods. Treat with Longdan Xiegan Tang plus Xiaofeng San, or Qingshu Yiqi Tang plus Wind-dispelling or blood-invigorating herbs.
Coughing, asthma, runny nose during rain or cold weather indicate Deficiency, Cold, Dampness Cough/Asthma. Dispel Cold, warm Yang. Avoid cold drinks/juices. Such patients often have internalized Cold-Damp due to prior anti-inflammatory treatment weakening them. Treat with Xiao Qinglong Tang or Mahuang Tang, warming/tonifying Lungs/Kidneys using Shenqi Wan, Buzhong Yiqi Tang, or Guipi Tang plus Mahuang, Guizhi, Fuzi, Baiguo.
3. Diagnosing and treating diseases by Psychology
Before exams, stress, poor mood, or fatigue cause nasal congestion, runny nose, coughing, asthma. These indicate Heart Deficiency and physical exhaustion, constituting Deficient Cough/Asthma. Guipi Tang or Tianwang Buxin Dan can cure them.
Sneezing, runny nose, coughing, asthma should be diagnosed based on Body Deficiency/Excess, Cold/Heat, External Invasion, Internal Injury. Mild illness implies strong constitution; severe illness implies weak constitution. Prioritize tonifying deficiency, treating disease secondarily. Over time, all illnesses can be cured. There are no incurable diseases. However, modern medicine dismisses allergies without finding root causes, offering symptomatic relief, trapping patients in lifelong suffering.
Cold, Heat, Deficiency, Excess may appear alone or combined. Treatment must distinguish and apply Warming, Clearing, Tonifying, or Draining methods. Then, there are no incurable Ganmao or Asthma cases, nor any such thing as "allergy."
(II) Differences between TCM and Western Medicine regarding Ganmao
TCM categorizes Ganmao as Injury by Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Heat, or combinations of Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire. It may also involve food retention or emotional injury to the Spleen causing Deficiency.
Injuries by Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Heat produce varying Cold/Heat/Deficiency/Excess symptoms across the twelve meridians, termed Meridian Pathologies. Depending on the meridian affected by Wind/Cold, it is classified as Shaoyang combining Yangming/Taiyang, Shaoyin, or Taiyang/Yangming combined disease (Two-Yang Combined Disease). Symptoms transferring from one meridian to another due to diet, emotion, or improper treatment is called Six-Meridian Transmission.
Meridian pathology and Six-Meridian transmission systematically organize the progression, antecedents, and consequences of diseases, serving as the basis for Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment.
Classics like *Shanghan Lun* and *Wenbing Tiaobian* provide orderly principles for treating external invasions, serving as timeless standards for recovery.
Western medicine classifies Ganmao into A, B types, further subtypes like Thai, Sichuan, Siberian... claiming over 200 virus strains. Constant viral culture takes time; by the time the strain is identified, the epidemic has already passed due to weather changes, and everyone recovers. Yet, authorities claim successful prevention/virus elimination.
Regarding Dengue Fever, experts urge prevention, yet outbreaks expand. During typhoons, experts warn of spread via floodwaters. Yet, after typhoons/floods, Dengue disappears. Experts claim success or attribute disappearance to washing away by water, showing ignorance of how weather changes cause pathological transformations, wasting tax funds.
Northern Taiwan has Aedes aegypti and albopictus mosquitoes but no Dengue epidemics, due to climatic variations preventing outbreaks.
Lunar March-April and August-September, transitioning from cold to hot and vice versa, cause bodily discomfort as it adjusts to climate changes, marking peak Ganmao seasons.
Past promotion of A/B vaccines—have those viruses disappeared? Pediatric clinics remain full, proving no need for further promotion.
Reports confirm over 200 Ganmao types and new ones awaiting study, similar to discovering over 250 cancer cell types. Understanding these, Ganmao and cancer cells are merely different symptoms appearing in different meridians/organs due to Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire entering the body.
Understanding TCM Meridian Pathology, Zang-Fu Manifestation Theory, and Six-Meridian Transmission reveals the absurdity of theories claiming 200+ Ganmao types or 200+ cancer types.
Ignoring climatic adaptation and the role of nose/trachea as mere pathways, blindly treating acute/chronic inflammation/allergies causes drug-induced harm, severely damaging national health. Children suffer daily Ganmao, exhausting parents. Pediatric wards are overcrowded. What science is this?
V. Fever
(1) Causes of Fever:
Modern public opinion views fever as loss of control by the thermoregulatory center or invasion by external bacteria/viruses. From a TCM perspective, this is entirely wrong. Erroneous medical practices and drug toxicity lead to adverse outcomes like encephalitis, meningitis, polio. Why?
Air breathed through the nose is warm; skin also breathes, dissipating heat and moisture (sweat).
Heat expelled through respiration and sweating is not body inflammation. It is body temperature generated by the ascent of Heart-Kidney Fire (Emperor Fire and Ministerial Fire)—the residual heat discharged from digesting nutrients and generating energy.
Poor discharge of body heat causes fever, i.e., accumulation of residual heat. Causes include:
1. Ganmao:
See section on causes of Ganmao. Ganmao fever arises when the five Zang organs regulate Five Qi to generate energy/temperature. If regulation fails and heat cannot be discharged, pores are blocked by Wind, Summerheat, Cold, Dampness, Dryness, Fire. Since Lungs govern pores/skin (Metal), pore constriction prevents heat expulsion, causing fever. This is the most common type of febrile Ganmao.
