这是恰当的道理。那么病人还有什么指望呢？我年轻时，就精心钻研这一行业，对内以仁爱之心救治世人，对外精通各种药物调配的方法。历经四十多年，心中熟悉方剂，眼中辨识病症，无论是常见还是罕见的病证，往往都能手到病除。虽然侥幸得到黄帝、岐伯（中医始祖）的灵验，使枯骨生肉、死人复活，但对人间也不无小小的补益。自我反省内心，则感到思虑已经枯竭了。既然想到我不过是医术行业中一介普通人，这门技艺终究伴随我一生，施药救人也有其局限性。人们喜好行善，谁不如我呢？怎能不广泛传播这些知识，而将其仅仅藏在肘后的简易医方中呢？于是利用剩余的精力，将外科的各种病症进行整理，分门别类，用论述来统领全局，用歌诀来辅助记忆，以确立法则。即使是微小的疥癣之疾，也未曾遗漏。在论述之下，接着加以注释，以揭示阴阳虚实变化的根本缘由。在方剂之下，概括为四句诗，以体现君臣佐使配伍的调和作用。在图形之后，又附上疮疡命名的十条准则，以说明病情不可随意猜测，药物……
This is the appropriate principle. Then what hope do patients have? In my youth, I meticulously studied this profession, nurturing a compassionate heart internally to save lives, and mastering various methods of compounding medicines externally. Having practiced for over forty years, I became accustomed to formulas in mind and familiar with symptoms in sight. Whether common or unusual, conditions were often cured upon contact. Although I may have benefited from the spiritual efficacy of Qi Bo and Huang Di (mythical founders of Chinese Medicine), bringing the dead back to life and restoring flesh to bones, it still offers some minor benefit to the world. Reflecting on my own mind, however, I feel my thoughts are nearly exhausted. Since I realize I am merely one individual among many practitioners, and that this craft will accompany me until death, with limited scope for charitable acts, who among those who love goodness is not like me? Why should we not widely disseminate this knowledge rather than concealing it in the "Elbow Manual" (a term referring to concise medical texts kept for emergencies)? Thus, utilizing my remaining strength, I compiled various surgical conditions, categorized them by type, governed them with treatises, supplemented them with songs for memorization, and established rules. Even trivial ailments like scabies and tinea were not omitted. Below each treatise, annotations were added to reveal the root causes and developments of Yin-Yang deficiency and excess. Below each formula, four-line verses were provided to illustrate the harmonious coordination of Sovereign, Minister, Assistant, and Courier herbs.
