Certain patient, internal wind. This is caused by the movement and transformation of yang qi within the body. Sweet and sour substances are suitable. (Liver Yin Deficiency)
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Muli (Ostreae Concha), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Yurou Tan (Carbonized Corni Fructus).
Patient Wang, yang qi carries internal wind upward to the vertex. Symptoms include blurred vision, tinnitus, and insomnia. This is a disease of the Liver meridian.
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Zhi Gui Jia (Prepared Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Yurou (Corni Fructus), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Ci Shi (Magnetitum), Fu Ling (Poria), Hanlian Cao (Ecliptae Herba), Nvzhen Zi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus).
Patient Cao (32 years old), after using acrid-cold herbs to clear the upper jiao, the head and eyes became clear. It can be known that fire-wind arises from deficient zang yin; rigid/dry drugs will certainly not be effective. The general principle of treatment is to soothe the liver's urgency to extinguish wind, and nourish kidney fluids to drive out heat.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Chuan Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Xiao Hei Dou Pi (Skin of Black Soybean).
Patient Chen (45 years old), due to mental exertion and worry, the yang qi of the five emotions carries internal wind upward to disturb the clear orifices. Symptoms include dizziness, tinnitus, and eye pain. However, internal wind generated by the transformation of yang in the body cannot be resolved by dispersing methods, nor cleared by heavy cold drugs. It is completely different from the fire-wind of the six climatic factors. Using the method of "acrid-sweet transforming into wind" is actually intended to tonify the liver.
Gouqi Zi (Lycii Fructus), Guiyuan Rou (Longan Aril), Guishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ganju Tan (Carbonized Chrysanthemi Flos), Nvzhen Zi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus).
Patient Lu (42 years old), liver wind and yang qi take advantage of the deficiency of the Yangming stomach to ascend and overwhelm. Symptoms include swollen and painful gums. Proposed treatment: harmonize yang and extinguish wind.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Muli (Ostreae Concha), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Chuan Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Hanlian Cao (Ecliptae Herba), Nvzhen Zi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus).
Patient Ling, pathological changes at solar term transitions are always deficiency syndromes. Symptoms include visual disturbances, stiff tongue, back discomfort, dysuria, and constipation. All are due to kidney fluids failing to nourish, causing liver wind to flare up. One should follow Liu Hejian's principle of "heavy drugs taken lightly," named as a decoction (Yinzi).
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 5 qian), Xian Rong Rong (Cynomorii Fructus, 8 qian), Chao Qi Zi (Fried Lycii Fructus, 3 qian), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 qian), Yun Ling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Chuan Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 3 qian), Sheng Sha Yuan (Astragali Complanati Semen, 1 qian), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 1 qian), Yuanzhi Rou (Polygalae Radix, 0.4 fen). Decoction method for Yinzi.
Patient Hu, soothe liver urgency, moisten blood, and extinguish wind.

Honey pills.
Certain patient, advanced age with water deficiency, liver yang ascends and rebels without restraint. Heat sensation in both hypochondria leads to rising fire and facial redness. Worsened by mental exertion. Method: nourish liver yin and harmonize yang.
Jiu Zheng He Shou Wu (Nine-steamed Polygoni Multiflori Caulis, 4 liang), Jiu Zheng Dong Sang Ye (Nine-steamed Mulci Folium, 3 liang), Hui Zhou Hei Ma Zi (Huizhou Black Sesame Seed, 3 liang), Xiao Hei Dou Pi (Skin of Black Soybean, 3 liang), Ju Sheng Zi (Sesami Semen Nigrum, 2 liang), Jin Dan Tian Dong (Steeped Ophiopogonis Radix, peeled heart, 1 liang), Zhen Bei Sha Shen (True Glehniae Radix, 2 liang), Baizi Ren (Platycladi Semen, 1.5 liang, oil removed), Yun Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 2 liang), Nvzhen Shi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, 2 liang).
Grind into powder, make pills with green plant juice. Take 3 qian in the morning, wash down with boiled water.
Zhang (wife), liver yang deficiency causes internal wind to ascend to the vertex. Head and eyes are unclear, Yangming pulse is empty, waist and knees are sore. Proposed treatment: nourish blood and extinguish wind.
Juhua Tan (Carbonized Chrysanthemi Flos), Shu Shou Wu (Prepared Polygoni Multiflori Caulis), Niuxi Tan (Carbonized Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Gouqi Zi Tan (Carbonized Lycii Fructus), Hei Dou (Black Soybean), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood).
Patient Shen, Chong vessel qi rises to the left, should suppress liver yang and secure kidney essence. (Liver-Kidney Yin Deficiency)
Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Yurou (Corni Fructus), Dan Cai (Mytili Corpus), Fu Ling (Poria).
Patient Ding (43 years old), due to lingering thoughts disturbing the yang of the five emotions, yang transforms into internal wind, changing endlessly. Unrestrained yang movement is due to insufficient storage of zang yin. Self-perception of excess above and deficiency below. Treatment method: use shell/turtle类药物 to submerge, sour substances to collect, and rich flavors to fill. Drugs that are purely cold or hot cannot treat diseases arising from emotions.
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Yurou (Corni Fructus), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Ci Shi (Magnetitum), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Qing Yan (Halitum), Biejia Jiao (Trionycis Carapax Colla), Guiban Jiao (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum Colla). Dissolve gelatin to make pills.
Patient Zhu (elderly woman), burning sensation in the heart, restlessness upon waking preventing sleep. This is because spring earth qi governs ascent, and liver yang follows upward disturbance. In old age, the five fluids are exhausted, raising concern for epilepsy and spasms.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Sheng Bai Shao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Xiao Hei Dou Pi (Skin of Black Soybean).
Cheng (wife), latent summer-heat manifests in late autumn. Disease originates from the interior, initially resembling malaria. Heat forces the Ying level, menstruation comes irregularly. Tongue is smooth like a mirror, complexion is dark and dull, chest fullness with hidden pain. Righteous qi is greatly deficient, heat is closed internally. Moreover, whole-body pain indicates extreme disharmony of Wei yang. First propose nourishing yin to drive out heat. If liver wind does not swirl, spasms and convulsions will not occur. If no turmoil arises within five days, recovery is expected.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Ma Ren (Semen Cannabis), Sheng Muli (Raw Ostreae Concha).
Jin (female), warm pathogen penetrates deeply into Ying collaterals. Heat stops, but knee bone pain is severe. This is because blood is extremely damaged, and internal wind is about to boil. As stated, severe cases lead to twitching. Spasms and convulsions are imminent. Always due to misusing draining and bitter-cold drugs hoping to stop heat, without worrying about exhaustion of stomach juices and activation of liver wind. Propose soft drugs to slow collateral heat and extinguish wind.
Mai Mai Tang (Decoction for Recovering Pulse) minus Ginseng, Ginger, Hemp Seed, decocted with Raw Trionyx Soup.
Wang (wife), pain starts from leg limbs and sinews/bones, ascending to waist and abdomen, penetrating to heart and chest. If symptoms also appear during menstruation or leukorrhea, this is due to innate yin deficiency and emptiness of the Chong and Ren extraordinary vessels. Whenever spring arrives, earth yang qi ascends, deficient qi moves and ascends with it, collateral blood loses nourishment, all qi rebels horizontally, face turns red like ochre, hunger but no desire to eat, deafness, insomnia upon waking. Yang floats, collaterals are clearly empty. First harmonize yang and treat collaterals.
Xi Sheng Di Huang (Fine Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Sheng Bai Shao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba), Sheng Biejia (Raw Trionycis Carapax), Sheng Guiban (Raw Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Sheng Hu Gu (Raw Tiger Bone), Nuodao Gen (Radix Imperatae).
Decoct medicine and send down Zishen Wan (1.5 qian).
Second visit: Previous use of Zishen Wan relieved pain, but face and dorsum of feet are swollen. Blood and qi are both deficient, internal wind is rampant. The Classic states: wind excess causes movement, dampness excess causes swelling. Yin-deficient constitutions tend toward heat. Propose first using Huqian Wan. Take 4 qian per dose, four doses.
Certain patient (53 years old), lower yuan water deficiency, wind-wood shakes internally. Liver and Kidney deficiency, prone to fright and fear. Not a case where excess heat, phlegm, and fire can be attacked with purgatives.
Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Qing Ejiao (Clear Donkey-hide Gelatin), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Qi Zi (Lycii Fructus), Juhua Tan (Carbonized Chrysanthemi Flos), Nvzhen Shi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus).
Hu, chronic deafness, slight choking in throat feeling unrefreshing. This is yin failing to ascend, yang carrying internal wind to insult the clear orifices above. Generally, Liver and Kidney should be moistened and cooled. When Dragon Fire and Ministerial Fire are calm, the water source is generated.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian mixed with Qiu Shi processed in water and dried for decoction), Xian Sheng Di Huang (Fresh Raw Rehmanniae Radix, 3 qian), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 1 qian), Dan Cai (Mytili Corpus, 3 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 qian), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 1.5 qian).
Second visit: Yin deficiency and fluid consumption, wind moves and yang rises. Although all ailments have decreased, constipation persists after twenty days. Do not seek quick results. Only quiet, tonifying, and moistening drugs are suitable. Follow previous prescription, remove Bai Shao, add Baizi Ren.
Third visit: Bowel movements twice, quite comfortable, relying entirely on the yin-nourishing power of quiet drugs. However, appetite is not strong. Propose stomach-tonifying drugs.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Chao Mai Dong (Fried Ophiopogonis Radix), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Sheng Gu Ya (Raw Sprouted Grain), Nan Zao (Chinese Jujube).

Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Baizi Ren (Platycladi Semen), Muli (Ostreae Concha), Xiao Mai (Tritici Fructus).
Wu, pulse is wiry and slightly rapid, body becomes thinner daily, mouth and tongue ulcerate, shoulder and back contractive pain, limb numbness, skin itching, dizziness, tinnitus. Present for several years. This belongs to chronic mental exertion, yang rising, internal wind swirling, damaging sinews and fluids. Ancient texts say vigorous fire consumes qi, all are transformations of yang. First propose clearing heat in the blood level, subsequently nourish blood to extinguish internal wind. Remain quiet and avoid labor to prevent flaccidity and convulsions. (Yang Rising, Blood Heat)
Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Dan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Ling Yang Jiao (Caprae Subulatus Cornu), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Zhu Ye Xin (Bamboo Leaf Heart).

Bao (elderly woman), severe pain in right Taiyang region, jaw locked, mouth corners pulled, throat feels obstructed. Yang rises transforming into wind, Liver disease attacks Yang collaterals upwards, stool tends to close. Propose using Longhui Wan. Take 2 qian per dose.
Second visit: Liver wind obstructs orifices, pulse is indistinct, danger of exterior collapse. Jaw is tight now, throat obstructed unable to accept soup/water. Although there are prescriptions, difficult to open the passage. Scrape nail ends, mix with warm water and administer. If passage opens, discuss other methods. Also rub teeth with Suhe Xiang (Styrax).
Zheng (39 years old), right pulse wiry, head distension, tinnitus, rising fire. This is Liver Yang stagnating upward, clear orifices losing control.
Xi Sheng Di Huang (Fine Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Xia Ku Cao (Prunellae Spicae), Shi Jue Ming (Haliotidis Concha), Chuan Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Sang Ye (Mulci Folium).
Chen, summer yang qi rises violently, disturbed by mental exertion, causing internal wind to block clear orifices upwards. Stiff tongue, yawning, orifice mechanisms obstructed and unresponsive, rapid pulse, coated tongue. Avoid warming and dispersing. Caused by governing qi, not exterior pathogenic factors. (Collateral Heat, Orifice Obstruction)
Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Ling Yang Jiao (Caprae Subulatus Cornu), Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Dan Xing (Arisaematis Cum Bile), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap), Jiang Zhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice).
Second visit: Clearing collaterals was effective, fire-wind is certain. Avoid rigid and dry drugs.

Third visit: Rapid pulse, red face, liver wind still moving. Harmonize yang and extinguish wind.
Xian Sheng Di Huang (Fresh Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Ling Yang Jiao (Caprae Subulatus Cornu), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chang Pu Gen (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Xian Yin Hua (Fresh Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix).
Wang, speech impediment upon waking, bright red face, sweating. One day before illness, ate much noodles suddenly. Illness came abruptly, Shaoyin Kidney yin and yang failed to continue, Jueyin Liver wind rose suddenly, causing mental confusion. For 7-8 days, voice is absent, mechanism is unresponsive. Treatment focuses on protecting righteous qi, assisting with promoting upper jiao phlegm-heat. If using Di Huang and Dong Hai to nourish yin, yin will not generate suddenly, only causing stagnation in epigastrium. Treat the acute aspect first, as ancient texts state. Endure until 14th-15th day, hope for turning point. (Phlegm-Heat Obstructing Orifices)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap), Jiang Zhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice).
Jiang, jumping sensation in left hypochondrium has not settled, still liver wind not extinguished. Stomach fluids are deficient internally, unable to support. Clearing and nourishing Yangming is most important. Stomach belongs to Fu organs; if Fu is strong, it resists Wood-Fire invasion, illness will self-reduce. This is distinct from attacking external pathogens quickly or tonifying pure deficiency heavily. (Liver-Stomach Yin Deficiency) Suanzaoren Tang minus Chuanxiong, add Ginseng.
Second visit: All ailments improving, only jumping sensation in left hypochondrium for years, occasionally feeling qi rising wanting to belch. Liver yin insufficient, yang shakes incessantly, cannot stop immediately. Now grain intake just increased, treating Liver and Kidney together can be delayed.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhusha Ran Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix stained with Cinnabar), mixed with Gold Leaf.
Third visit: Xian Sheng Di Huang (Fresh Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, mixed with Cinnabar), Zhu Ye Xin (Bamboo Leaf Heart), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), mixed with cold Ginseng Soup.
Xi (57 years old), pulse wiry, moving, and deficient. Looking at age 60, Yangming pulse declines, Jueyin internal wind spins secretly without ceasing. Thus Stomach pulse fails to bind sinews and bones to facilitate joints. Liver yang goes straight to vertex, sweat escapes via yang qi. Illness erupts in spring, worsened by physical labor, qi is further injured, yang moves more. Method: sweet-warm to tonify qi. Attacking illness and driving wind both deplete qi and injure yang, this is a taboo. (Stomach Deficiency, Exterior Loose)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Dong Sang Ye (Mulci Folium), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex), Hua Fen (Puerariae Radix).
Sun (wife), Stomach deficiency, liver wind shakes internally, vomiting phlegm, coughing rebellion, headache, dizziness, limb numbness, sweating, alternating chills and fever. (Stomach Deficiency, Phlegm Stagnation) Erchen Tang plus Tian Ma and Gouteng.
Shen (56 years old), dark complexion, thin body, Wood-Fire constitution, excessive physical and mental activity all transform into fire. Vomiting phlegm and rushing qi is Liver-Gallbladder ministerial fire invading Stomach crossing diaphragm, food intake naturally decreases. Yangming is already deficient. Resolve depression and harmonize middle, regulate Liver and Stomach, moderate labor and guard against anger, keeping internal wind from moving is best. (Nourish Liver, Harmonize Stomach)
Gouqi Zi (Lycii Fructus), Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Chao Baizi Ren (Fried Platycladi Semen), Jin Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Banxia Qu (Pinelliae Fermentatum), Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Fu Ling (Poria), Huang Ju Hua Gao Wan (Yellow Chrysanthemum Paste Pill).
Liang, Wood-Fire constitution, compounded by depression, Liver yin further depleted, Jueyang rises. Dizziness, vertigo, palpitations. Nourishing Liver and extinguishing wind is the absolute truth. Recently knows hunger but eats little, nausea, Stomach qi rebels downward. First focus on draining Wood and calming Stomach. (Drain Liver, Calm Stomach)
Sang Ye (Mulci Folium, 1 qian), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, 3 qian), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, 0.3 fen), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 0.3 fen), Banxia Qu (Pinelliae Fermentatum, 1 qian), Guang Pi Bai (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Album, 1.5 qian), Jin Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 1.5 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian).
Second visit: Left pulse wiry, qi pushes to throat, mind confused, don't know why. Sign of yin consumption and yang hyperactivity. Propose nourishing Liver substance, clearing Liver function.
Jiu Kong Shi Jue Ming (Nine-hole Abalone Shell, 1 piece), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, 1 liang), Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Bao Mu Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 3 qian), Xian Sheng Di Huang (Fresh Raw Rehmanniae Radix, 3 qian), Ling Yang Jiao (Caprae Subulatus Cornu, 0.8 fen), Sang Ye (Mulci Folium, 1.5 qian), Huang Gan Ju (Yellow Sweet Chrysanthemum, 1 qian).
Shen, prime age, epigastric qi mass, belching with vibration, qi descending brings peace. Flowing phlegm not cured, testicles swollen and hard. Now entering night near sleep, qi rushes from lower abdomen to heart, awake all night, dizziness, blurry vision, wind-thunder in ears, limb numbness, skin prickling like insects crawling. This belongs to mental exertion and anger injuring Liver internally, causing Shaoyang to gather upwards as mass, Jueyin to knot downwards as hernia, Chong vessel restless, qi in pulse rebels and mixes, qi dries and transforms into heat, Wind-Yang interacts, Ying fluids consume daily, chaos ensues, all harm of Liver wind. Cannot be treated by attacking, dissipating, warming, or tonifying. Only quiet rest, avoiding anger and labor, half a year may see success. (Anger/Labor Injuring Liver, Knotting Hernia/Mass)
Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Xi Sheng Di Huang (Fine Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Chen Xiao Mai (Old Tritici Fructus), Nan Zao Rou (Chinese Jujube Flesh).
Wang (50 years old), fright and anger move Liver, internal wind and yang qi boil, epigastric obstruction, throat blockage, muscle twitching and numbness, all due to Wood overacting, causing Yangming to decline daily. First use suppressing yang and extinguishing wind method. (Fright/Anger Moving Liver)
Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Xi Sheng Di Huang (Fine Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Sheng Muli (Raw Ostreae Concha), Chuan Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), Xiao Mai (Tritici Fructus), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood).
Cao (wife), sorrow and depression, all self-diseases from emotions. Coinciding with winter warmth, yang fails to submerge. Early spring, yang rises vigorously, transforming into internal wind, wandering and disturbing collaterals. Yang only overwhelms upward, yin fails to absorb downward, clear orifices are covered, resembling stroke, tongue stiff unable to speak. Liu Hejian said improper care, fire excess water deficiency, wind rises internally. Actually, yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity cause disease. Since not treating according to law, after Jingzhe thunder, body sweats. Chunfen warmth, day and night awake unable to sleep, even anxious, completely different from usual. Is this not all due to solitary excitation of yang? Liver wind disturbing internally, Yangming bears the brunt. During illness, binge eating, seeking help from food due to internal wind consuming. Now Stomach pulse does not recover, qi is weaker, fails to bind sinews/bones to facilitate joints, nose tip shines, muscles swell. Studying ancients' deficiency wind, first recommend Hou Shi Hei San, striving to fill intestinal gaps, so internal wind may cease. Why do doctors not clear fire and resolve phlegm, or use cloying tonics, or mix wind-drugs? Internal cause diseases, how can they be attacked by form/substance? Pure cold or pure hot are not ultimate principles. (Wind-Yang Disturbing Stomach)
Sheng Muli (Raw Ostreae Concha), Sheng Bai Shao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chao Sheng Di Huang (Fried Raw Rehmanniae Radix), Juhua Tan (Carbonized Chrysanthemi Flos), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Nan Zao Rou (Chinese Jujube Flesh).
Generally, attacking illness and driving pathogens, drugs rely on bias/excess, such as Classic of Internal Difficulty stating salty overcomes bitter, bitter overcomes acrid, borrowing their mutual restriction to achieve merit. Now emotion/internal cause disease, relates to Yin-Yang and Zang-Fu disharmony, reason leans towards harmony, should promote vital energy. Like four seasons Yin-Yang rotation in heaven and earth, all things have growth wonder. Case says Yang overwhelms and does not submerge, method should harmonize Yang to join Yin. Muli is heavy and salty, assisted by Sour Bai Shao, Water generates Wood. Di Huang is slightly bitter, Ju is slightly acrid, transformed to bitter by fire frying, Wood generates Fire. Add sweet Gan Cao and Da Zao to nourish Yangming, Fire generates Earth. Drugs are plain and unremarkable, yet truly reference Xuanyuan-Qibo foundations. World ignores and does not investigate, mostly holding specific drugs for specific diseases.
Classic says: East generates wind, wind generates Wood, Wood generates sour, sour generates Liver. Thus Liver is Wind-Wood organ, harboring Ministerial Fire internally, substance is Yin, function is Yang, nature is rigid, active and ascending. Relies entirely on Kidney Water to contain it, Blood to moisten it, Lung Metal clear-descending command to level it, Central Earth abundant qi to cultivate it, then rigid quality becomes soft quality, fulfilling its free-flowing and flourishing nature, what disease would there be? If essence/fluids are deficient, Liver Yin insufficient, blood dry generating heat, heat causes Wind-Yang to rise, orifice/collateral obstruction, head/eyes unclear, dizziness/falling, even twitching/spasms/convulsions. Mr.'s treatment method, so-called soothing Liver urgency to extinguish wind, nourishing Kidney fluid to drive heat. Such as Huqian, Hou Shi Hei San, Dihuang Yinzi, Zishen Wan, Mai Mai Tang etc., modified, is using shell/turtle to submerge, sour to collect, rich flavor to fill. Or using clearing upper and solidifying lower method. If thinking/worry/labor, body/mind overactive, Wind-Yang disturbs internally, then Ying heat/palpitations, fright/terror/insomnia, hypochondriac jumping, treat with Suanzaoren Tang, Buxin Dan, Zhenzhong Dan modified, clearing Ying level heat, assisting in collecting spirit. If due to anger/depression, phlegm-fire-wind intertwine fiercely, then Erchen Longhui. Wind-Wood overacting must invade Middle Palace, then vomiting/no eating, method uses draining Liver calming Stomach, or filling Yangming. Others such as acrid-sweet transforming wind, sweet-sour generating yin, clearing Metal leveling Wood, various methods, cannot be fully narrated. However Liver Wind syndrome, patients are many, because ancients never used this as disease name, thus doctors often ignore. I do not fear criticism of fabrication, specially highlight it, establish a separate category, for later students to examine. (Hua Xiuyun)
Xu Comment: Liver Wind is a type of Stroke, most common in South, yet need not establish a separate category.
