(Attached note on numbness of hands and feet. "Ma" (tingling) is caused by Qi deficiency, while "Mu" (wood-like sensation) is caused by damp-phlegm and dead blood in the Stomach.)
Jue syndrome refers to the reversal of Qi mechanism, where the hands and feet become cold due to the failure of Qi and Blood to connect with each other. This condition is mostly caused by Qi deficiency or Blood deficiency. There are Yang Jue and Yin Jue. When Yang Qi declines in the lower jiao, it presents with cold signs; when Yin Qi declines in the lower jiao, it presents with heat signs. The symptoms of Yin Jue include: cool body, no thirst, a slow, fine, and faint pulse, and cold hands and feet extending beyond the elbows. The symptoms of Yang Jue include: irritability, thirst, delirium, fever, and a rapid pulse; although the hands and feet are cold, the coldness does not extend beyond the elbows.
If the patient vomits and has trismus (lockjaw), use rhinotactic medicine first.

For Qi Jue causing a cool body, use Su He Xiang Wan (Styrax Pill) or Ba Wei Shun Qi San (Eight-Ingredient Powder to Regulate Qi). Currently, Zi Jin Dan (Purple Gold Pill) is often used, ground with Ginger Juice and taken, which is very effective. For Qi deficiency Jue with a fine pulse, use Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction). For Phlegm Jue with a string-taut pulse, use Yu Shu Dan (Jade Pivot Pill), or Niu Huang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill), or Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) with Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap).
Another formula: Use Da Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, large size) thirty pieces and Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus, Semen Crotonis) twenty pieces, grind into powder, make pills the size of Adzuki beans, coat with Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, Cinabrum), take one pill per dose, send down with Ginger Soup.
