This prescription is Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) with the addition of Renshen (Ginseng Radix). This is how Zhang Zhongjing treated Shaoyin disease (Lesser Yin disease) characterized by aversion to cold in the back and a neutral sensation in the mouth. From this, I have realized that when Zhang Zhongjing used Bawei Shenqi Wan (Eight-Ingredient Kidney Qi Pill), he was supplementing the fire within the water, thereby nourishing the "Heaven generates One as Water" (the congenital essence); whereas when he used Zhenwu Tang, he was supplementing the fire within the earth, thereby nourishing the "Earth completes Two" (the acquired foundation).
