Mainly treats Fayi (Mumps/Sialadenitis). Whether there is pus that cannot be resolved, or whether the abscess has ruptured or not, this formula can be taken. According to the meridian pathway of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel, which enters the ear from behind it, the condition of Fayi... When Fayi has not yet formed an abscess, cool-natured medicines are used to dissipate it, and wind-dispelling medicines are used to scatter it; this is Lianqiao Baidu San (Forsythia Detoxification Powder). Once the abscess has formed, tonifying agents are used to push out the toxin, and lifting agents are used to raise the Qi; this is Tuoli Xiaodu San (Interior-Supporting Detoxification Powder). At the stage between impending rupture and non-rupture, one fears both the spread of the pathogen and the difficulty in rupture. Therefore, detoxifying and swelling-reducing agents are used for prevention and containment; this is Xiaodu Wei Yao (Detoxification Encirclement Medicine). The sequence of priority and urgency must be carefully examined and detailed; one must not act hastily.

Puji Xiaodu Yin (Universal Benefit Detoxification Decoction) serves merely as the principal formula. Often, this toxicity first causes swelling in the nose, then in the ears, extending from the ears to the head, connecting upwards to the back of the head, where it forms a mass and stops. If it does not disperse, it will inevitably suppurate. This formula uses cooling agents to descend turbidity, wind-dispersing agents to ascend clarity, and is assisted by various detoxifying substances. Indeed, this is an excellent method.
