Wind-strike is roughly similar to Cold Damage. If sweating is present, one must know that the exterior should be rescued first. This is because wind pathogen has injured the Wei (Defensive) Qi. Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), when used with appropriate dosage, ensures safety and recovery. The decoction contains three main herbs: Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) are combined. If used in combination with Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), the formula is named Ge Ban Tang (Half-and-Half Decoction) for treating Cold Damage. Da Qing Long Tang (Major Blue Green Dragon Decoction) contains Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). It should be taken hot with Zaozi (Jujubae Fructus) and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). This method effectively resolves both wind and cold pathogens and is excellent. Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) uses Zhuling (Polypori Umbellati Sclerotium), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Yunling (Poria), and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma). A small amount of Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) is added as a guide. Its function is to promote urination and generate fluids.
If Taiyang disease does not resolve, it enters Yangming. Once the pathogen enters Yangming, the condition gradually deepens. Symptoms include eye pain, nasal dryness, and insomnia. One must distinguish whether the pathogen is in the Meridian or the Fu Organ.
Yangming refers to the meridian where Yang Qi is at its peak; hence it is called Yangming. Its pulse is long at both the Cun (Inch) and Chi (Cubit) positions. A pulse that is long and slightly flooding indicates Meridian disease. A pulse that is long, deep, and rapid indicates Fu organ disease. Although pulses are categorized into Cun, Guan (Bar), and Chi positions, mentioning only Cun and Chi implies the Guan position is included.
When the pathogen is in the Meridian, fever occurs accompanied by aversion to cold. Eye pain, difficulty sleeping, and nasal dryness are present. The symptoms indicate that Taiyang disease has not yet ceased. Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction) and Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) should be prioritized.
According to Cold Damage, within two or three days, the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian is affected. The meridian originates at the Chengqi (ST1) acupoint on the nose, connects to the eyes, follows the face, runs along the anterior aspect of the body, and terminates at the Dui point on the second toe. Symptoms include body heat, eye pain, nasal dryness, and inability to sleep. However, Yangming is the interior of the exterior. With a pulse that is long and slightly flooding at Cun and Chi, it is Meridian disease. This means Taiyang symptoms have not ceased, and aversion to cold persists. Jieji Tang (Muscle-Releasing Decoction), Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction), and Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) are indicated. If the pulse is long, deep, and rapid, it is Fu organ disease. This means Taiyang Meridian symptoms have ceased, there is no aversion to cold, and only fever remains. Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) and Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction) are indicated. If exterior symptoms remain unresolved while interior symptoms are urgent, Dachaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) should be used to treat both exterior and interior simultaneously. For pathogens located above the diaphragm, emesis may be induced using Gouti San (Melon Spore Powder), which is a heavy agent. After sweating or purging, if deficiency-related vexation and restlessness occur, emesis may also be induced using Zhizi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction), which is a light agent.
Jieji Tang contains Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix). Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) are effective. Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Zaozi (Jujubae Fructus) are combined. It can be decocted for Yangming Meridian disease. Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction) uses Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba). These two ingredients are added to Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction). Because there is no sweating, a mild agent is used to dispel excess. If sweating is present, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix). Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) uses Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma). Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) is added to generate fluids. When treating heat, thirst, deficiency, and vexation, Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Germen) is added during boiling.
