Wind-warmth disease is characterized by fever, spontaneous sweating, and a predominantly floating pulse. Symptoms include panting, thirst, lethargy with excessive sleepiness, and a heavy body with limited mobility. The pathogen resides in the Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) and Jueyin (Terminal Yin) meridians. Sweating-inducing methods are strictly contraindicated; instead, Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder) is appropriate for treatment.
Wind-warmth refers to a condition where one is first injured by wind pathogens, subsequently leading to heat injury. The struggle between wind and heat triggers wind-warmth. The pulse at both the Cun (inch) and Chi (cubit) positions is floating. Symptoms manifest as fever, spontaneous sweating, headache, panting, intense thirst, drowsiness, or a heavy body with numbness. The pathology lies within the Shaoyin and Jueyin meridians. Ren Shen Bai Du San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder) should be used for treatment. Wind-warmth must never be treated with sweating-inducing methods. If sweating is induced erroneously, it leads to delirium, irritability, and disordered vision with lack of spirit. Such deaths are caused by medical error.
Ren Shen Bai Du San (Ginseng Detoxification Powder) contains: Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), etc.; Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix). These ten ingredients have a cool nature.
Damp-warmth is characterized by delirium, high fever, and frequent sweating. Symptoms include abdominal fullness, cold calves, and pain in the head and eyes. The pathology lies in the Taiyin (Greater Yin) meridian. Sweating-inducing methods are contraindicated; Baizhu Jia Cangzhu Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) yields miraculous effects.
Damp-warmth arises from dampness injury followed by summerheat, where dampness and heat contend. The pulse at the Cun position is soggy and weak, while the Chi position is small and rapid. Symptoms include chest fullness, head and eye pain, severe fever, delirious speech, profuse sweating on the body, and reversed coldness in the calves. The pathology is located in the Taiyin meridian. Baizhu Jia Cangzhu Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) is suitable for treatment. Damp-warmth must not be treated with sweating-inducing methods. Erroneous sweating induces aphonia, deafness, inability to locate pain, cyanosis of the skin, and altered complexion, termed "Zhong Yue" (severe damp-heat syndrome). Such deaths result from medical error.
Wind-dampness presents with a floating and deficient pulse, slight sweat on the forehead, swelling and pain, fever with heavy toxic heat, and aversion to cold causing the patient to retain clothing. Guizhi Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) is specifically indicated, and Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) can also cure it completely.
Wind-dampness occurs when dampness is injured first, followed by wind. The pulse is floating, deficient, and choppy. Symptoms include heavy and painful limbs, inability to turn over, slight sweat on the forehead, aversion to cold without desire to remove clothes, difficulty in defecation, and free urination. Guizhi Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) and Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) are appropriate. Sweating-inducing methods are contraindicated in wind-dampness. If sweating is induced, wind may leave but dampness remains, which is not only ineffective but harmful.
Internal dampness is characterized by jaundice, frequent fever and pain. Symptoms include loose stools with difficult passage, and a slow, deep pulse. Wuling San Chushi Tang (Five Ingredient Powder with Poria to Remove Dampness) is specifically indicated, and Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) can bring relief.
Internal dampness results from wind and rain invading deficiency, with dampness moistening and steaming, often injuring humans. The pulse is deep and slow. Symptoms include generalized pain, heaviness, jaundice, vexatious joint pain, fever, nasal congestion, occasional distension, free defecation, and difficult urination. Wuling San Chushi Tang (Five Ingredient Powder with Poria to Remove Dampness) and Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Prepared Aconite Root Decoction) are suitable. Sweating-inducing methods are contraindicated in internal dampness; if induced, it leads to death via heat-induced spasms. Purging methods are also contraindicated; if purged, it causes forehead sweat, chest fullness, slight panting, hiccups, and urinary difficulty. The classic states that treating dampness requires promoting diuresis; otherwise, it is incorrect treatment.
