This decoction treats the syndrome where pathogenic factors of the Shaoyang channel invade its associated organ. Therefore, in the base formula, the yang-moving herbs Gan Cao and Huang Qin are removed, while Da Huang is added to move yin and purge the pathogen downward. Fu Ling is used to separate and promote urination. Long Gu, Mu Li, and Qian Dan are used to calm the timidity of the Liver and Gallbladder. Gui Zhi is used to unblock stagnation in the blood vessels. This shares the same principle as Ji Ni Tang (Rescue from Perishing Decoction), which uses Gui Zhi, Long Gu, Mu Li, and Shu Qi (Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori) to calm the mental disorder caused by fire reversal in the Taiyang channel. This formula uses Chai Hu combined with Long Gu, Mu Li, and Qian Dan to calm the irritability and palpitations caused by erroneous purgation in the Shaoyang channel. This is also an established and unchangeable method.
