[Pig Skin Decoction]
Zhu Fu (Pig Skin, 1 jin): Take this single ingredient, boil in 10 dou of water until reduced to 5 sheng, remove the dregs, add 1 sheng of white honey and 5 he of Bai Fen (likely rice flour). Stir-fry the rice flour until fragrant, mix well with the decoction, and take warm, divided into six doses.
In Shaoyin disease, presenting with diarrhea, sore throat, chest fullness, and irritability, this is a syndrome of deficiency of Qi in the Middle Jiao with Yin Fire flaming upward. Zhu Fu Tang (Pig Skin Decoction) is the primary formula. It uses sweet and salty flavors to anchor floating fire.
[Gan Cao Decoction]
Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 2 liang): Take this single ingredient, boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng, remove the dregs, take 7 he warm per dose, twice daily.
[Jie Geng Decoction]
Jie Geng (Platycodon Root, 1 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 2 liang): Take these two ingredients, boil in 3 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, remove the dregs, take warm, divided into two doses.
In Shaoyin disease, if sore throat occurs after two or three days, Gan Cao Tang (Licorice Decoction) may be administered. The sweet flavor is the true taste of Earth, capable of restraining the fire of Kidney Water that overflows upward.
If the condition does not improve, administer Jie Geng Tang (Platycodon Decoction). This supplements with bitter and acrid agents that open and disperse; *Bencao Jing Bie Lu* records its efficacy in treating sore throat.
[Ku Jiu Decoction]
Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber, 14 pieces, washed and broken like jujube pits), Ji Zi (Chicken Egg, 1 piece, yolk removed, Ku Jiu added into the shell): Take these two ingredients, place Ban Xia in Ku Jiu (vinegar), set the eggshell containing the mixture in a knife ring, place over fire, and bring to three boils. This method of decoction likely holds profound meaning, suspected to be an ancient secret prescription. Remove dregs, hold in mouth and swallow slowly. If not cured, prepare three more doses.
In Shaoyin disease, if the throat is injured and sores form (suspected to be similar to Yin Fire laryngeal ulcers), and the patient cannot speak or produce sound, Ku Jiu Tang (Vinegar Decoction) is indicated. Sores forming in the throat result from prolonged illness where the throat is steamed and corroded by fire pathogens. This condition cannot be treated by ordinary decoctions; this medication acts to astringe and descend Qi, combining internal treatment with external application.
[Wumei Pill]
Wumei (Mume Fruit, 300 pieces), Xixin (Asarum Root, 6 liang), Jiangjiang (Dried Ginger, 10 liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 4 liang), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 jin), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 6 pieces, processed and peeled), Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper, 4 liang, "sweated"), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 6 liang, peeled), Renshen (Ginseng Root, 6 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, 6 liang): Process the above ten ingredients separately by pounding and sieving, then combine. Soak Wumei in Ku Jiu (vinegar) overnight. Remove pits, steam over 5 dou of rice until cooked. Pound the fruit into a paste, mix thoroughly with the other medicines, place in a mortar, add honey, and pound for two thousand strikes to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills before meals with warm water, three times daily, gradually increasing to 20 pills. Avoid cold, raw, slippery, and spoiled foods.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage) disease, if the pulse is faint and there is cold extremities, progressing to cold skin on the seventh or eighth day, this indicates Yang Qi failing to guard the exterior. If the patient is restless without any moment of peace, this is Zang Jue (Organ Cold Reversal), which is difficult to treat. This is not Hui Jue (Roundworm Reversal).
Patients with Hui Jue typically vomit roundworms. In this case, the patient is quiet but experiences intermittent irritability due to Cold in the Zang organs causing roundworms to ascend into the Diaphragm. The irritability ceases shortly. Vomiting and renewed irritability after eating occur because roundworms are attracted by the odor of food, leading to spontaneous vomiting of roundworms. For Hui Jue, Wumei Wan (Mume Pill) is the primary formula. It also treats chronic dysentery. This is a sacred formula for treating chronic dysentery. Regarding its efficacy against roundworms, the properties of the various herbs should be carefully examined in *Shennong Bencao Jing* (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica); this applies to all formulas, so they are not listed individually here.
