Women, during childbirth, may have their Bao Tai (uterus/fetal membrane) injured by the midwife's hand entering the birth canal, resulting in persistent dripping bleeding that is unbearable even for a moment. People say that once the Bao Po (ruptured uterus), it cannot be repaired; however, this is not true. If skin wounds can still be healed and mended, how can internal ruptures not be treatable? Some argue that external injuries can be treated topically to regenerate skin, while internal injuries, despite having miraculous ointments, are beyond repair. Yet, although topical treatment cannot reach internal injuries, who says internal medicine cannot achieve success? Consider that severe sores with significant tissue loss can still regenerate flesh through herbal decoctions. This case involves only minor damage due to careless delivery assistance, without noxious pathogens, so why is it difficult to mend the defect?
The formula used is Wan Bao Yin (Complete Uterus Decoction).
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 10 liang, stir-fried with soil), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian, peeled), Sheng Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, 5 qian), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang, stir-fried with wine), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 5 qian), Bai Ji (Bletillae Rhizoma powder, 1 qian), Hong Hua (Carthami Flos, 1 qian), Yi Mu Cao (Leonuri Herba, 3 qian), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, 10 grains, soaked and stir-fried, crushed).
Take one pig or sheep Bao (bladder/uterus), first decoct it to make a soup, then add the herbs and decoct further. Take on an empty stomach for ten doses for complete recovery. One might ask: since the Bao is damaged, why use formulas that tonify Qi and Blood instead of specific Bao-tonifying drugs? The reason is that vaginal examination should not be performed during labor, but midwives often do so, causing injury and inevitably leading to Nan Chan (difficult labor). Difficult labor arises from Qi and Blood deficiency. Postpartum, Qi and Blood are severely depleted, making it "deficiency upon deficiency." Injury results from deficiency, and deficiency worsens due to injury. Without tonifying Qi and Blood, how can the rupture heal? Now, by greatly tonifying Qi and Blood, it is like providing food to the hungry and water to the thirsty; Spirit will flourish, and Qi and Blood will be regenerated, making the repair of the Bao easy. Thus, success is achieved within ten days.
Marginal note: There are many single-herb prescriptions for repairing the Bao, but none are as effective as this one.
Verse:
During delivery, remain calm; frequent manual probing injures the Bao.
Persistent dripping and unbearable pain require urgent medicinal remedy.
Wan Bao Yin contains Ginseng, Atractylodes, Angelica, Ligusticum, and Bletilla.
Poria, Peach Kernel, Safflower, and Motherwort are added; decoct using Pig or Sheep Bladder water.
