Specially treats various types of *Gan* syndrome (a chronic malnutrition disease in children caused by spleen-stomach weakness and improper diet), proven to be extremely effective through trials, and acceptable to young children.
In summer, collect over one hundred toads; those caught around the Dragon Boat Festival are preferable. Remove the heads, feet, intestines, stomach, skin, and bones, setting them aside separately. First, fry the toad meat in sesame oil until cooked and feed it to the child. Then, place the remaining skin, bones, intestines, and stomach in a bowl, expose it to intense sunlight, cover it with a fine sieve, and allow flies to lay eggs and generate maggots. Once the maggots have consumed all the flesh on the bones, collect the maggots, wash them clean, stir-fry until dry, wrap them in thick paper, and roast them in ash fire until charred but retaining their medicinal properties (*cun xing*). Grind into fine powder. For every one tael of this powder, add the following herbs: *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma) (2 taels), *Shanzha* (Crataegi Fructus) (flesh only, pitted, net weight 4 taels), *Lushen* (Aloe) (2 taels), *Sharen* (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (2 taels), *Qingpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (white part removed, bran-fried, 1 tael), *Wuyi* (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus) (1 tael), *Binglang* (Arecae Semen) (2 taels), *Haoxin mo* (Powder of Artemisia argyi heart) (1 tael), *Xiyamu xiang* (Costi Rhizoma) (5 qian).
Grind all above ingredients into fine powder, remove dregs, yielding one jin (approx. 500g) of pure powder. Additionally, use ten jin of aged wheat flour, two jin of white sugar, and one jin of maltose. Mix the herbal powder, flour, and sugars uniformly. Shape into cakes weighing one liang each, following the method for making Jinhua Bing. Take one cake daily on an empty stomach, washed down with rice soup. This formula eliminates *Gan* accumulation and resolves stagnation with miraculous efficacy. Daily use by children is highly beneficial.
Treats pediatric vomiting and diarrhea caused by imbalance of cold and heat and internal injury to the spleen and stomach. Diarrhea and dysentery are also caused by damp-heat accumulation. The treatment principle should focus on resolving accumulation and regulating the spleen. The following two formulas address these conditions.
Extremely effective for treating vomiting and diarrhea: *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen), *Baizhu* (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (8 fen), *Fuling* (Poria) (6 fen), *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (2 fen), *Chenpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (6 fen), *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) (7 fen), *Huoxiang* (Agastaches Herba), *Sharen* (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), *Gange* (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (each 5 fen). Decoct these ingredients in one zhong of water until reduced to six parts. Add one spoonful of ginger juice, mix well, and administer.
Treats pediatric *Gan* accumulation with dysentery, persistent diarrhea, or irregular cold and heat patterns resulting in mixed red and white purulent blood, abdominal pain, anorexia ("forbidden mouth"), tenesmus, frequent bowel movements day and night, chronic non-healing conditions, and even prolapse of the rectum due to spleen deficiency. This formula is suitable for all such cases: *Chenpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (white part removed), *Qingpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (inner pith removed, bran-fried), *Houpo* (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (ginger-processed), *Qingmuxiang* (Vladimiriae Root), *Shanzha* (Crataegi Fructus) (pitted, net weight), *Shenqu* (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (fried), *Maiya* (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) (roasted), *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (moistened, radix removed, 2 taels each), *Muxiang* (Aucklandiae Radix) (avoid direct fire, 5 qian). Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Blend with refined honey to form pill cakes. Each wet cake weighs two qian. Dry in the shade. Take one cake per dose on an empty stomach, dissolved in rice soup. Immediate effect is expected. Adults may also use this formula.
