In these three years, the annual qi ascends to become the heavenly movement, serving as the left interstitial qi of Yangming Dryness-Metal. At this time, it encounters Tianrui Star (the main star governing Earth Qi) acting as the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler), causing Earth Qi to obstruct and preventing Yangming Dryness-Metal from ascending. Additionally, in Ji-You or Ji-Mao years, Water Movement desires to ascend to heaven but is suppressed by Earth Movement, hindering its ascent. Consequently, Yangming Dryness-Metal fails to transition into its proper position (fail to take over the Si Tian Qi of the previous year), and Taiyang Cold-Water also fails to ascend to become the Zai Quan (Earthly Ruler). Therefore, *Ci Fa Lun* states that when Water Movement desires to ascend but is obstructed by Tianrui Star, one should needle the He-Sea point Yongquan of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.
Furthermore, *Ben Bing Pian* mentions that in Mao-You years, Tairn Damp-Earth desires to descend to become the Earthly Movement but is obstructed by Dicang Star (the main star governing Wood Qi), preventing it from entering its position; simultaneously, Shaoyang Ministerial-Fire has not yet withdrawn, causing Tairn Damp-Earth to be unable to descend. If encountered again in Ding-You or Ding-Mao years, with Wood Movement succeeding above, Tairn’s desire to descend remains unfulfilled. Thus, *Ci Fa Pian* indicates that when Earth Movement desires to descend but is obstructed by Dicang Star, one should needle the Jing-Well point Dazhun of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and the He-Sea point Yanglingquan of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, to nourish the source of transformation. This is because Metal Qi is prosperous in the seventh month, so treatment is initiated in the sixth month to drain Metal Qi. Zhang Jiebin stated: Removing pathogenic factors includes the meaning of correcting deviations and remedying deficiencies. For excess conditions, draining methods may be used; for deficiency conditions, tonifying methods may be used. Salty flavor belongs to Water and transforms Qi to treat the Jun Fire of Zai Quan; Bitter flavor belongs to Fire and transforms Qi to treat the Dryness-Metal of Si Tian; Pungent flavor belongs to Metal and transforms Qi to align with the condition of excessive Fire and deficient Metal in the current year, seeking balance through regulation consistent with the Si Tian Qi. However, if Dryness-Metal governs Si Tian, the climate in the first half of the year tends towards excessive contraction, thus sweating and dispersing methods are appropriate. If Jun Fire governs Zai Quan, the climate in the second half of the year tends towards excessive heat, thus clearing heat and calming methods are appropriate. The method of calming involves adhering to the laws of movement and transformation to ensure peace. Based on the severity and quantity of cold and heat, the principle of prescription formulation parallels using more Heavenly Transformation (cooling) for heat patterns and more Earthly Transformation (warming) for clear/cool patterns.
Wang Bing stated: In years of Shao Jiao (deficient Wood Movement) and Shao Zheng (deficient Fire Movement), the climate resembles heat, so prescriptions should primarily utilize the cooling transformation of Heaven. In years of Shao Gong (deficient Earth Movement), Shao Shang (deficient Metal Movement), and Shao Yu (deficient Water Movement), resembling coolness, prescriptions should primarily utilize the warming transformation of Earth. Since Fire resides in Earth, those resembling coolness use Earth’s transformation; since Metal resides in Heaven, those resembling heat use Heaven’s transformation. Wu Kun stated: For excessive cold, pungent herbs should be used abundantly to induce sweating and disperse; for excessive heat, salty and bitter herbs should be used abundantly to clear heat. If the Great Movement shares heat with the Zai Quan Shaoyin Jun Fire, the clearing and肃 (solemn/clearing) transformation of the Si Tian Yangming should be used abundantly for treatment. If the Great Movement shares coolness with the Si Tian Yangming Dryness-Metal, the warming and heating transformation of the Zai Quan Shaoyin should be used abundantly for treatment. Zhang Zhicong stated: For movements like Shao Zheng and Shao Jiao sharing heat with Shaoyin, the cooling transformation of Heaven should be used abundantly to restrain it. For movements like Shao Shang, Shao Gong, and Shao Yu sharing coolness with Yangming, the fiery warmth of Earth should be used abundantly to restrain it. Heavenly transformation refers to the coolness of Dryness-Metal, while Earthly transformation refers to the fiery warmth of Zai Quan. According to *Zhi Zhen Yao Da Lun*: "When Wind is excessive, calm it with coolness." That is, when Wind transforms into Heat, coolness should be used to pacify it. Zhang Ji’s commentary notes: *Xuan Zhu Mi Yu* records that when Metal is about to prevail, use Bitter flavor to level it, restraining Metal’s excess; use Sour flavor to preserve it, tonifying Liver deficiency; avoid Pungent foods to aid Metal’s excess. Yangming Dryness-Metal transforming Qi governs the interior in humans, manifesting externally on muscles and internally on the Stomach, differing between being in the Meridians and the Fu organs. When in the meridians, Zhang Zhongjing provided examples such as Guizhi Tang and Gegen Tang, using Pungent flavor to induce sweating; and Da Qinglong Tang and Baihu Tang, using clearing and dispersing methods. When heat enters the Fu organs, there are examples of the Three Chengqi Decoctions, using Bitter-Cold purgatives. From this, we understand the principles of using Cold, Bitter, and Pungent flavors, inducing sweating, clearing heat, and dispersing. Heaven has Six Qi, Humans have Six Meridians; although their markers differ, the underlying logic is the same. This elucidates the same principles as the *Sanyin Shenping Tang*.
When using Cool herbs, avoid periods of strong Cool Qi; when using Hot herbs, avoid periods of strong Heat Qi; when using Cold herbs, avoid periods of strong Cold Qi; when using Warm herbs, avoid periods of strong Warm Qi. Dietary choices should follow the same rules. If there are exceptional circumstances, reverse this approach. This is the correct principle. Violating this disrupts the constant laws of Heaven and Earth and disturbs the discipline of Yin and Yang.
Wu Kun stated: The preceding six sentences are ancient sayings, hence summarized as "This is called..." Reversing them refers to violating these six ancient therapeutic principles. Ma Shi stated: The Si Tian Qi has Cold, Heat, Warmth, and Coolness, and human medicines and foods also possess these qualities. Therefore, when using Cold, Heat, Warmth, or Coolness, one should distance oneself from the corresponding seasonal Qi of Si Tian and avoid violating it. If there are exceptional cases where they are used, it is precisely because the Principal Qi is insufficient and the Guest Qi prevails, utilizing temporary Cold, Heat, Warmth, or Coolness to support the four regular Qi. If not an exceptional case, opposing the season will inevitably cause disease. Zhang Jiebin stated: "Reversing for exceptions" means treating contrary to the norm. "Reversing" implies ignoring the aforementioned treatments and using the opposite, which can disrupt the constant laws of Heaven and Earth.
When Shaoyang governs Si Tian, the Qi transformation operates ahead of the natural timing. The Heavenly Qi is normal, but the Earthly Qi is disturbed.
New Correction notes: Detailed examination shows that when Shaoyang governs Si Tian and Tairn governs Zai Quan, it obtains the correct Qi of Heaven and Earth. When Jueyin or Shaoyang governs Si Tian, each says "obtains its correctness," referring to the Earth’s generation and flourishing. Some versions read "Heavenly Qi is correct"; Shaoyang Fire’s nature is active and restless, so saying "stillness" makes no sense. Wu Kun stated: The administration of Si Tian Shaoyang Ministerial-Fire acts upwards; Yang attains its position, hence "Heavenly Qi is correct." The administration of Zai Quan Jueyin Wind-Wood acts downwards; wind moves on Earth, hence "Earthly Qi is disturbed." Zhang Zhicong stated: In Yin-Shen years, the Main Qi is Excessive, and all Six Qi act ahead of time. Here, it clarifies that the Qi of Heaven and Earth Yin-Yang interact and resonate, known as "Upper and Lower interact, Qi Intersection governs," marking the end of the cycle. The Qi of Cang (Wood), Dan (Fire), Su (Metal), and Yuan (Water) generates the Five Elements of Earth, and the Five Elements of Earth present upwards to the Six Qi of Heaven. Thus, Cold, Heat, Dryness, Dampness, Wind, and Fire are the Yin-Yang of Heaven. The Three Yin and Three Yang are offered upwards; they are below while the Six Qi are above. Therefore, above Shaoyang, Fire Qi governs, revealing Jueyin internally; above Jueyin, Wind Qi governs, revealing Shaoyin internally. Correct center. When Jueyin governs Si Tian but it is said "Earthly Qi is correct," it means the Qi of Shaoyang Zai Quan also acts in the middle, as Shaoyang is the internal revelation of Jueyin. Furthermore, Jueyin does not follow the marker or root but follows the internal revelation of Shaoyang’s transformation. Thus, for all Jueyin administrations similar to the Correct Year, the Qi operation is the same as Heaven, meaning Jueyin is similar to Shaoyang: Heavenly Qi is correct, Earthly Qi is correct. For all years where Jueyin’s Qi operation is the same as Shaoyang’s Heavenly Qi correction, it is because when Shaoyang governs Si Tian, Jueyin is in the middle; when Shaoyang governs Zai Quan, Earthly Qi is in the middle, and Shaoyang is the internal revelation of Jueyin. When Jueyin governs Zai Quan, Earthly Qi is in the middle; when Jueyin governs Si Tian, Heavenly Qi is also in the middle, meaning Jueyin follows the internal revelation of Shaoyang’s transformation. Understanding Si Tian, Zai Quan, and the left/right interstitial Qi, and seeking within the upper and lower Qi intersection, one grasps the subtleties of transformation. Jueyin governing Zai Quan causes Earthly Qi to be disturbed, as Jueyin’s arrival brings agitation and following, which is the constant function of command.
Wind rises suddenly, trees bend, sand flies; Blazing fire flows, Yin moves, Yang transforms, rain falls at the proper time; Fire and Wood share virtue.
Wang Bing stated: Manifesting brightness and magnitude. New Correction notes: Detailed examination of the Six Qi shows that only when Shaoyang and Jueyin govern Si Tian and Zai Quan are Upper and Lower smoothly connected without mutual overcoming, hence "Fire and Wood share virtue." Other years have overcoming, hence "sharing virtue." Zhang Zhicong stated: This is the Qi of Wind and Fire. It means Jueyin’s Qi ascends and follows Shaoyang’s transformation, hence rain falls at the proper time. Shaoyang’s arrival leads to Fire generating and ending in humidity, which is the constant virtue and transformation. Zhang Jiebin stated: This is the transformation of Wind-Wood governing Zai Quan and Ministerial-Fire governing Si Tian. Tairn Damp-Earth governs the Second Qi, running parallel with Shaoyang before the mid-year, hence Yin moves, Yang transforms, and rain falls at the proper time.
The grains are Red (Dan) and Green/Cyan (Cang). Its administration is strict, its command is disturbing, thus Wind and Heat mix, clouds and objects boil. Tairn flows horizontally, Cold arrives at its time, cool rains rise together. Restrain the movement and transformation, assist what cannot overcome, must break the stagnant Qi, first obtain the source of transformation.
Wang Bing stated: Source of transformation refers to the twelfth month before the year, obtained in advance. New Correction notes: Detailed examination of Wang’s note on obtaining the source of transformation lists four levels. For Taiyang Si Tian, obtain in September; for Yangming Si Tian, obtain in June—these two prioritize the Qi in Heaven. For Shaoyang Si Tian, obtain in the twelfth month before the year; for Taiyang Si Tian, obtain in September—these two prioritize the Qi in Earth beforehand. For Shaoyin Si Tian, obtain in the twelfth month before the year; for Jueyin Si Tian, obtain in April—the meaning is unclear. According to *Xuan Zhu*, this is different: Taiyang and Yangming months match Wang’s note; Shaoyin and Shaoyang both obtain in March; Tairn obtains in May; Jueyin obtains in the twelfth month before the year. *Xuan Zhu*’s meaning is understandable, suggesting Wang’s months may be erroneous. Wu Kun stated: Red corresponds to Shaoyang Fire color; Cyan corresponds to Jueyin Wood color. If movement and transformation are excessive, restrain them to prevent hyperactivity; assist what cannot overcome to prevent harm. Pathogenic Qi arising from stagnation must be broken and removed. However, one must first obtain the source generating the pathogen and attack it in advance, which is correct. Zhang Zhicong stated: Ripening under the influence of Si Tian and Zai Quan Qi: Strictness is the correct Fire; disturbance is the Qi’s command. Wind and Heat mixing refers to Shaoyang and Jueyin Qi intersecting and distributing in the Qi intersection; clouds boiling refers to Earthly Qi rising; Tairn flowing horizontally and cool rains rising refers to evaporation turning into rain. Ma Shi stated: Restraining excessive movement and transformation, assisting what cannot overcome, breaking stagnant Qi: According to *Ben Bing Pian*, in Yin-Shen years, Yangming ascending Lord is blocked by Tian Ying Fire, failing to advance. Yangming was on Earth for three years, now ascending to become Shaoyang’s left interstitial Qi, encountering Tian Ying Fire blocking it, hence unable to ascend. Also encountering Wu-Yin and Wu-Shen Fire Movement arriving early, causing Metal to desire ascending but being suppressed by Fire Movement. Thus *Ci Fa Lun* states: When Metal desires to ascend but is blocked by Tian Ying Fire, needle the Jing-River point Jingqu of Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. *Ben Bing Pian* Yin-Shen year: Shaoyin descending Lord is blocked by Di Xuan Water, failing to enter. Or encountering Bing-Shen and Bing-Yin Water Movement excessive, arriving early, Jun Fire desires descending but is succeeded by Water Movement, failing to descend. Thus *Ci Fa Lun* states: When Fire desires to descend but is blocked by Di Xuan Water, failing to enter, needle the Jing-Well point Yongquan of Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and the He-Sea point Weizhong of Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, first obtaining the source of transformation. Wang’s note considers obtaining in the twelfth month before the year. Both Wang’s note and New Correction call it "obtaining," likely missing the meaning in *Ci Fa Lun* of taking for excess and aiding for deficiency. Zhang Jiebin stated: Red corresponds to Si Tian, Cyan corresponds to Zai Quan.
Violent excesses do not arise, severe diseases do not occur.
Wang Bing stated: Ke means heavy/severe. New Correction notes: Detailed examination states that not mentioning eating Sui Grain (Year Grain) and Jian Grain (Interim Grain) here is because in this year, Heaven and Earth Qi are correct and harmonious, hence not mentioned. Wu Kun stated: If one follows the above treatments, Qi will not be excessive or deficient, so how could violent excesses or severe diseases arise? Zhang Zhicong stated: Violent movements do not arise, severe diseases do not occur. "Violent" refers to Tai Gong and Tai Shang movements being excessive but suffering suppression, making their violent manifestations severe illnesses, hence called "Ke."
Therefore, the year suits Salty, Pungent suits Sour,渗 (percolate/drain), 泄 (drain/purge), 渍 (soak), 发 (disperse/sweat). Observe the Qi’s Cold/Warmth to regulate excess. Similar to Wind-Heat, use more Cold transformation; different from Wind-Heat, use less Cold transformation.
Wang Bing stated: For Tai Jiao and Tai Zheng years, similar to Wind-Heat, use more Cold transformation; for Tai Gong, Tai Shang, and Tai Yu years, different from Wind-Heat, use Coolness to regulate excess. Wu Kun stated: Shaoyang Ministerial-Fire governs Si Tian, Jueyin Wind-Wood governs Zai Quan. Salty transforms to Water, overcoming Fire; Pungent transforms to Metal, leveling Wood. Wind and Fan blowing together necessitates Sour to astringe. Promoting urination is Percolation; promoting defecation is Draining/Purging; moving water is Soaking; inducing sweat is Dispersing. Cold warms it, Warm cools it. Zhang Zhicong stated: Use Salty to control Shaoyang Fire, use Pungent to overcome Wind-Wood evil. Jueyin follows Shaoyang’s Fire transformation, which is the son draining the mother’s Qi, hence Sour should also be used to tonify. Soaking refers to ancient use of decoction soaking to induce sweat; Percolating and Draining clears internal Heat-Fire; Soaking and Dispersing scatters external Wind-Evil. Ma Shi stated: Observe the Qi’s Cold/Warmth to regulate the disease. Si Tian is Heat, Zai Quan is Wind. For example, Ren-Yin and Ren-Shen are Tai Jiao, Wu-Yin and Wu-Shen are Tai Zheng—similar to Wind-Heat, use more Cold transformation; Jia-Yin and Jia-Shen are Tai Gong, Geng-Yin and Geng-Shen are Tai Shang, Bing-Yin and Bing-Shen are Tai Yu—different from Wind-Heat, use less Cold transformation. Zhang Jiebin stated: Observe the prosperity/decline of Cold/Warmth to regulate excess. Zhang Ji’s commentary: In Yin-Shen ten years, Ministerial-Fire governs Si Tian, Wind-Heat Qi appears in the Qi intersection causing public illness. Chen Wuzhe’s Shengming Tang uses raw and cooked Zao Ren equally, Cheqian Ren, Zitan Xiang, Qiangwei, Qingpi, Banxia, Shengjiang, Gancao. Miu Wen explains this formula: For Wind invading and Fire prevailing, Zao Ren treats heart/abdominal cold/heat and evil; cooked tonifies Liver Yin, raw clears Gallbladder Heat, acting as sovereign to drain Shaoyang Fire; assisting Cheqian to drain Liver Heat. Heaven and Earth, one Fire one Wind, rely entirely on this. Zitan is Cold to overcome Fire, Salty to soften Liver, a supreme product maintaining upper and lower. Qiangwei is a specific drug for Yangming, Bitter and Cold, clearing guest Heat in five Zang. Combined with Qingpi, Cheqian, Banxia, Shengjiang, it levels Liver, harmonizes Stomach, disperses rebellion, stops vomiting. Gancao relieves Liver urgency, drains various Fires. These few plain drugs penetrate every detail, complete in principle and method.
Use Hot far from Hot, use Warm far from Warm, use Cold far from Cold, use Cool far from Cool. Food suits the same method. This is the way. Exceptions reverse it. Reversing this is the ladder to disease.
Master Zhang Yushi stated: Examining Taiyang Si Tian and Tairn Zai Quan, it first says "Use Cold far from Cold, use Cool far from Cool"; Shaoyang Si Tian and Jueyin Zai Quan, it first says "Use Hot far from Hot, use Warm far from Warm." This means medicinal and dietary Cold/Heat of the Year Movement should distance itself from this Si Tian/Zai Quan. "Far" means do not violate. Ma Shi stated: Seasons have Cold, Heat, Warmth, Coolness, and human medicines/foods also have these. When using Cold, Heat, Warmth, or Coolness, one should distance oneself from the seasonal Cold, Heat, Warmth, or Coolness and not lightly violate them. If used exceptionally because Principal Qi is insufficient and Guest Qi prevails, temporarily using Cold, Heat, Warmth, or Coolness to support the four regular Qi allows occasional violation. If not an exception, opposing the time will inevitably cause disease. Zhang Ji’s commentary: *Yuan Zhu Mi Yu* Bu-Xie Ying-Sui Ji: When Fire is about to prevail, use Salty to level it. For stagnant Fire excess, use Pungent to preserve, tonifying Metal deficiency; avoid Bitter foods to aid Fire excess. Ministerial-Fire governing Si Tian, and Shaoyang is its meridian. Qi is Root, Meridian is Marker. Shaoyang in Meridian governs Half-Exterior/Half-Interior. Sweating injures Exterior, Purging injures Middle. Thus in *Shanghan* regarding Shaoyang meridian, both sweating and purging are prohibited. Zhongjing advocates Harmonizing method to benefit the Pivot, as Shaoyang governs the Pivot. Chaihu drains Half-Exterior Heat, Huangqin drains Half-Interior Heat, Ginger/Gypsum Pungency disperses, Ginseng/Gancao/Jujube calms Deficiency Heat, also consistent with Si Qi.
Tairn governing Si Tian, Qi transformation operates behind time.
Wang Bing stated: All things growing, maturing, transforming, and completing are generated after the natural time.
Yin monopolizes its administration, Yang Qi retreats, great winds arise frequently.
New Correction notes: Detailed examination of this Tairn administration focuses on "great winds arise frequently." Jueyin is the First Qi, occupying the Wood position, Spring Qi is correct, Wind comes, hence "great winds arise." Wu Kun stated: Because Tairn Damp-Earth governs Si Tian, Wind-Wood frequently comes to restrain it. Zhang Jiebin stated: Tairn governs Si Tian with Dampness; Taiyang governs Zai Quan with Cold. Thus Yin monopolizes administration, Yang Qi retreats. If Earth is deficient, Wind prevails, hence great winds arise frequently.
Heavenly Qi descends, Earthly Qi ascends, fields are misty, white dust rises everywhere, clouds rush to the South Pole, cold rains arrive often, objects mature at Cha-Xia.
Wang Bing stated: Nanji (South Pole) is the Rain House. Cha-Xia refers to ten days after Liqiu (Start of Autumn). Wu Kun stated: Cha-Xia is late Summer/early Autumn. Because Taiyang Cold-Water governs Zai Quan, Organ Qi prevails, and objects mature at Cha-Xia. Zhang Zhicong stated: Heaven and Earth’s Cold-Damp Qi intersect, hence fields are misty, cold rains arrive often. Cha-Xia is Changxia (Long Summer) time, intersection of Autumn. Zhang Jiebin stated: Damp Qi descends, Cold Qi ascends, hence fields are misty, white dust rises. Si Tian faces South, Tairn occupies it, hence clouds rush to South Pole. Rain/Dampness often appears in the South, Cha-Can. End of Summer entering Autumn is called Cha-Xia. Principal Qi is Damp-Earth time, Guest Qi is Shaoyang order, Earth Qi is slightly warm, hence objects mature.
People suffer Cold-Damp, abdominal fullness, body swelling, obstruction/rebellion, Cold reversal, stiffness/tension. Cold-Damp combine virtue, Yellow-Black dust dims, circulating in Qi intersection.
Wang Bing stated: Manifesting clearly. Wu Kun stated: All are Cold-Damp diseases. Zhang Zhicong stated: People suffer abdominal fullness, all meridians feel Cold-Damp Qi, forming Cold-Damp combination, hence Yellow-Black dust dims, circulating in Qi intersection. Ma Shi stated: People suffer Cold-Damp, abdominal fullness, body distension, swelling, obstruction/rebellion, Cold reversal, stiffness. Only because Cold-Damp combine virtue, Yellow-Black dust dims, circulating in Qi intersection. Zhang Jiebin stated: All diseases transformed by Cold-Damp, distension/fullness. Cold-Damp Yellow-Black are transformations of Earth and Water.
Its administration is Solemn, its command is Silent, its grains are [Red] Black.
Wang Bing stated: Generated by correct Qi. Wu Kun stated: [Red] corresponds to Tairn Earth color, Black corresponds to Taiyang Water color. Zhang Zhicong stated: Solemn is Earth’s administration, Silent is Water’s command. Zhang Jiebin stated: [Red] corresponds to Si Tian, Black corresponds to Zai Quan. Zhang Zhicong stated: Tairn’s Damp Qi condenses above, Taiyang’s Cold Qi accumulates below. Cold-Water overcoming Fire results in hail, i.e., what is called "Fire Stagnation Erupts," mountains/rivers ice/snow. Yang Qi is above, overcome by Yin condensation, hence Solemn/Killing Qi acts. This speaks of Upper/Lower Yin-Yang Qi.
Thus Yin condenses above, Cold accumulates below, Cold-Water overcomes Fire, resulting in hail. Sunlight is not governed, Killing Qi acts.
Wang Bing stated: Yellow-Black dim dust is called Killing Qi. Circulating from North/West to East/South. Wu Kun stated: Killing Qi is Black Qi. Zhang Jiebin stated: Upper Damp, Lower Cold, hence thus. Killing Qi is Yin Qi.
Thus Excess suits High, Deficiency suits Low. Excess suits Late, Deficiency suits Early. Earth’s benefit, Qi’s transformation. People’s Qi also follows. Interim Grains name the Excess.
Wang Bing stated: Speaking of grains by the major Interim Qi. Wu Kun stated: Due to excessive Cold, Excess suits High/Late, able to bear Cold; Deficiency suits Low/Early, unable to bear Cold. High/Low suitability, Qi transformation follows順 (smoothness). Zhang Zhicong stated: This discusses Five Directions’ land, varying in height/thickness. Thus Year Qi Excess, land should be high/thick; Year Qi Deficiency, land should be low. Excessive Qi should be slow, Deficient Qi should be early. Land high/thick, Qi slow emerging from underground, Qi easily ascends. Qi Excess, arrival should be late; Qi Deficiency, arrival should be early. This is land benefit, Qi arrival early/late, and People’s Qi follows. I submit: Discussing Upper/Lower Yin-Yang Qi, Heaven wraps Earth outside, land height exists within Heaven. Qi arrival early/late, Qi penetrates inside Earth. People’s Qi follows, people exist within Qi intersection. This should be read with *Wuchang Zheng Da Lun*. Ma Shi stated: Planting grains, Excess year, land should be high; Deficiency year, land should be low. High suits Late, Low suits Early. Though land benefit, it is actually Qi transformation. People’s Qi high/low also follows. As for Interim Grains, named by Interim Qi of Zai Quan Excess. Tairn is Minor Cold, Water is Major Left Interstitial, Jueyin color Cyan, Right Interstitial Yangming color White. Zhang Jiebin stated: All Year Grains’ color/taste/firmness/brittleness have Qi decline/prosperity differences, People’s strength/weakness Qi is likewise.
Must break stagnant Qi and obtain source of transformation.
Wang Bing stated: September source of transformation, obtained in advance to tonify. Wu Kun stated: Obtain transformation of pathogenic excess and drain it. Zhang Zhicong stated: Year Movement Deficient, thus should tonify. Pathogenic Qi is what one cannot overcome. Ma Shi stated: Must break stagnant Qi: According to *Ben Bing Pian*, Chou-Wei Shaoyang ascending Lord is blocked by Qiao Tianpeng, failing to advance. Or encountering Tairn not yet transitioning, Shaoyin ascending, Xin-Chou/Xin-Wei Water Movement suppresses. Thus *Ci Fa Lun* states: Fire desires ascending but Tianpeng blocks. All Jun Fire/Ministerial Fire same needle Pericardium Ying-River point Laogong. *Ben Bing Pian* Chou-Wei year: Jueyin not descending, encounters Yi-Chou/Yi-Wei Metal Movement suppressing, descending not down. Thus *Ci Fa Lun* states: Wood desires descending but Di Jing suppresses, descending not entering, needle Hand-Taiyin Jing-Well point Shaoshang, Hand-Yangming He-Sea point Quchi. Obtaining source of transformation means tonifying in September.
Restrain Year Qi, do not let Evil prevail. Eat Year Grain to preserve True Qi, eat Interim Grain to protect Essence. Thus year suits Bitter to dry, Warm to warm. Severe cases, Disperse, Drain. If not dispersed/drained, Damp Qi overflows externally, flesh ulcerates, skin breaks, Water and Blood mix. Must assist Yang Fire, commanding to resist severe Cold.
Wang Bing stated: Winter division, use Five Steps, measure Qi to use. Wu Kun stated: Dryness overcomes Damp, Warmth overcomes Cold. Suitable Bitter Dryness levels Damp-Heat. Fa-Xie is dispersing/percolating. Zhang Zhicong stated: True Essence is True Origin born from Heavenly One, i.e., Essence and Qi, hence called True/Essence. Ma Shi stated: Restrain Year Qi, do not let Evil prevail. Eat Year/Interim Grain to preserve True/protect Essence. Suitable Bitter to dry/warm. Severe cases, disperse/drain. If not dispersed/drained, Damp Qi overflows externally, flesh ulcerates, skin breaks, Water/Blood mix. Must assist Yang Fire to command resisting盛 (excessive) Cold Qi. Zhang Jiebin stated: Year Grain is the [Red] Black Grain mentioned above. Yangming administration, use Bitter to dry/warm. Bitter transforms to Fire, Dryness treats Damp, Warmth treats Cold. Dispersing/Draining, dispersing drives Cold, percolating removes Damp. Year Qi is Yin-Cold, thus should support Yang. Zhang Ji’s commentary: Chou-Wei ten years, Tairn governs Si Tian year, Cold-Damp Qi appears in Qi intersection causing public illness. Chen Wuzhe’s Beihua Tang uses Fupian, Shengdi, Fuling, Fupenzi, Niuxi, Mugua, Shengjiang, Gancao. Miu Wen explains: This Cold-Damp combined evil. Cold then Taiyang Qi does not move, Damp then Tairn Qi does not transport. Hence Sovereign Fupian Great Heat product drives Damp/removes Cold; Assistant Shengdi controls Pungent/Fierce nature; Fuling/Fupenzi one percolates one astringes; Niuxi/Mugua benefits joints; Add Pungent-Warm Shengjiang to disperse Shengdi’s cloying, Sweet-Warm Gancao to缓 (relieve) Fupian’s hindering Yin. Is this not a disciplined army? And especially compatible with Warm/Dry/Disperse/Drain treatment.
Follow Qi Similarity/Difference, judge by Less/More.
Wang Bing stated: Generally speaking Year Movement Similarity/Difference. Wu Kun stated: This is called not violating Heavenly Harmony. Zhang Zhicong stated: Pan means divide/judge. Ma Shi stated: Follow Qi similarity/difference, judge treatment by less/more.
Similar Cold, use Heat transformation; Similar Damp, use Dryness transformation.
