小儿夜啼者，有因胎热伏心，阴则与阳相刑，热则与阳相合，夜则阳衰，阴乃与阳
相搏，脏气相击，故作痛而夜啼。其候面赤唇红，恍惚壮热，小便色赤。手足动摇，咂
口弄舌，憎热燥闷，重则胸突头反也。有因胎惊而啼者，其候必一啼。若绝，而面紫手
足阙冷，乍醒乍啼。然身体温凉大便青绿者，阴也。若身体发热，精神不清，睡中惊
啼，二便赤黄者，阳也。若身热而便青白，或身凉而便赤黄者，半阴半阳也。至若啼
时，口多涎沫，腰曲拘挛面青泻青者，寒痰内 也。若啼时多搐，手足张惶，紧抱父
母，四顾恐怖者，此必因视非常之物，及客忤耳。如若目有所睹而惊哭者，此必邪祟所
侵，其候虎口无纹，而色变易不常也。凡啼而不哭是痛，故直声来往而无泪。哭而不啼
是惊，故连声不绝而多泪也。
治脏冷夜啼。一方有茴香、甘草。
当归 沉香 丁香 白术 人参 乳香 五味子 桂 赤芍药 水煎，食后服。

治心经蕴热夜啼。
麦冬 生地（各一钱） 车前子（六分） 远志肉（七分） 茯神（七分） 钩藤（五分）
甘草（生，三分） 木通（五分） 灯心水煎服。
小儿夜间啼哭，有的因为胎热潜伏在心，阴气与阳气相互刑克，热邪与阳气相合，夜间阳气衰退，阴气便与阳气相互搏结，脏腑之气相互冲击，所以产生疼痛而在夜间啼哭。其症状表现为面色红赤、嘴唇红润，神情恍惚且壮热，小便颜色深红。手足动摇，咂嘴弄舌，厌恶炎热、烦躁闷乱，严重的会出现胸部突起、头向后仰。有的因为受胎惊而啼哭，其症状必定是一阵啼哭，若停止后，面色紫暗、手足冰冷，时而清醒时而啼哭。如果身体温度正常或偏凉，大便呈青绿色，属于阴证；如果身体发热，精神不清爽，睡中惊叫啼哭，大小便呈赤黄色，属于阳证；如果身体发热但大便青白，或者身体发凉但大小便赤黄，属于半阴半阳证。至于啼哭时口中多涎沫，腰部弯曲拘挛、面色青、大便青色的，是寒痰内阻。如果啼哭时频繁抽搐，手足惊慌张皇，紧紧抱住父母，四处张望显露恐怖神色，这一定是因为看到了不寻常的事物，以及受到客忤（外邪侵袭）所致。如果是看到什么东西而惊吓哭泣，这一定是被邪祟侵扰，其症状表现为虎口纹路消失，且气色变化无常。凡是只啼哭而不流泪的是疼痛，所以声音直来直去而没有眼泪；只大哭而不间断啼鸣的是惊恐，所以连续叫声不绝且多眼泪。
治疗脏冷引起的夜啼。一方包含茴香、甘草。
当归、沉香、丁香、白术、人参、乳香、五味子、桂枝、赤芍药，用水煎煮，饭后服用。
另一方：
治疗心经蕴热引起的夜啼。
麦冬、生地（各一钱）、车前子（六分）、远志肉（七分）、茯神（七分）、钩藤（五分）、甘草（生用，三分）、木通（五分），用灯心草煎水送服。
Infantile nocturnal crying may be caused by fetal heat latent in the Heart. Yin conflicts with Yang, and heat combines with Yang. At night, when Yang Qi declines, Yin contends with Yang, causing the Zang-Fu Qi to strike each other, resulting in pain and nocturnal crying. The manifestations include a red face, red lips, mental confusion, high fever, and dark red urine. There is trembling of the hands and feet, smacking of the lips, playing with the tongue, aversion to heat, restlessness, and stuffiness. In severe cases, there is protrusion of the chest and retraction of the head. Nocturnal crying due to fetal fright is characterized by paroxysmal crying. If it ceases, the face becomes purplish, and the hands and feet are cold; the infant alternates between waking and crying. If the body temperature is normal or cool and the stool is greenish, it indicates a Yin pattern. If the body is hot, the spirit is unclear, there is startled crying during sleep, and both urine and stool are reddish-yellow, it indicates a Yang pattern. If the body is hot but the stool is greenish-white, or if the body is cool but the urine and stool are reddish-yellow, it indicates a half-Yin, half-Yang pattern. If there is excessive salivation during crying, curvature and spasm of the waist, a bluish complexion, and greenish stool, it indicates internal obstruction by cold-phlegm. If there are frequent convulsions during crying, panic and agitation of the limbs, tight clinging to parents, and fearful looking around, this is certainly due to viewing unusual objects or invasion by "Ke Wu" (alien pathogenic factors). If crying and startling occur upon seeing something, it is certainly due to invasion by evil spirits, manifested by the disappearance of the fingerprint on the Tiger's Mouth area and irregular changes in complexion. Generally, crying without weeping indicates pain, hence the straight, intermittent sound without tears. Weeping without continuous crying indicates fright, hence the unceasing loud cries with abundant tears.
To treat nocturnal crying due to cold in the Zang organs: One prescription contains Fennel Fruit (Foeniculi Fructus) and Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草).
Angelica Root (Danggui, 当归), Agarwood (Chenxiang, 沉香), Clove (Dingxiang, 丁香), Atractylodes Rhizome (Baizhu, 白术), Ginseng Root (Renshen, 人参), Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香), Schisandra Berry (Wuweizi, 五味子), Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi, 桂), and Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao, 赤芍药). Decoct in water and take after meals.
Another prescription:
To treat nocturnal crying due to latent heat in the Heart Meridian.
Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong, 麦冬) and Rehmannia Root (Shengdi, 生地) (each 1 qian), Plantago Seed (Cheqianzi, 车前子) (6 fen), Polygala Root (Yuanzhi Rou, 远志肉), Poria (Fushen, 茯神) (each 7 fen), Uncaria Ramulus cum Uncis (Gouteng, 钩藤) (5 fen), Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao, 甘草) (3 fen), and Akebia Caulis (Mutong, 木通) (5 fen). Decoct with Juncus Effusus (Dengxin, 灯心) and take.
To treat incessant nocturnal crying in infants, resembling haunting by ghosts.
Seven Cicada Sloughs (Chantui, 蝉脱), using only the lower half, as the upper half can induce nocturnal crying. Grind into powder, mix with Mint Decoction (Bohe Tang, 薄荷汤) and a little wine, and administer.
