In the human body, Yin Qi resides below. Insufficiency of Yin leads to Kidney deficiency. The Kidney governs bones; thus, walking becomes difficult. The Turtle belongs to the North, obtaining the densest Yin Qi from Heaven and Earth, hence it serves as the Sovereign herb. The Tiger belongs to the West (or directions), obtaining the strongest Yin Qi from Heaven and Earth, hence it serves as the Minister herb. Selecting only the tibia follows the principle of similarity. Plant drugs have biased properties and are difficult to match the efficacy of animal drugs (sentient beings with blood and Qi). Huangbai and Zhimu clear heat from the bones; Dihuang, Danggui, and Baishao nourish the Yin of the lower part. When Yin is deficient, Yang Qi leaks and rebels upward; Suoyang is used to restrain its ascent, and Chenpi is added to guide its descent. For those lacking essence, tonify with flavor; thus, mutton is used for the pills. Named "Huqian" (Tiger Hiding): Tiger represents Yin; Qian means to hide. It aims to seal and store Qi and Blood, retreating into secrecy.
