Treats sudden onset of stroke with locked jaw, where medication cannot be administered.
Take Xixin (Asari Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Zhuya Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina), and Xionghuang (Realgar), each two qian, grind into powder. Use a small amount, insufflate into the nose. Wait for sneezing to occur, then administer medication. If no sneezing occurs, it is incurable. If the jaw lock is severe, add a small amount of Shexiang (Moschus) to the previous powder, or use Wumei (Mume Fructus) or Baimei, remove the pits, and rub the teeth with the medicine. Sour flavor enters the sinews first, causing the jaw to become soft and open easily; this also illustrates the principle of Wood overcoming Earth, as the gums belong to the Yangming Stomach channel (Earth). Some use only Wumei to rub the gums; once saliva flows, the jaw opens. The Foot-Yangming Stomach channel passes through Jiache (ST5) and enters the tooth gaps. When Wind-Cold invades, mild cases present with shivering and gnashing of teeth, while severe cases result in trismus. If stroke presents with an open mouth and no lock, it indicates Collapse Syndrome, where vital Qi has failed first, which is incurable.
Mainly treats sudden collapse due to stroke with excessive phlegm-saliva; this medication induces vomiting.
Take Yazao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus) four strips (remove skin and strings, roast), and Baifan (Alumen), two liang (calcined until dry). Grind together into powder. Administer three zhi per dose, washed down with water.
Clear Yang resides above, Turbid Yin below, like Heaven crowning and Earth treading, without sudden collapse. If Turbid Pathogens surge counterflow and Clear Yang loses its position, sudden collapse with much phlegm occurs. Treat the branch (symptoms) first, then the root (cause). Baifan is sour and bitter; the Classic states: "Sour and bitter induce vomiting and purging," so it serves as the Sovereign herb. Zaocao is pungent and salty; the Classic states: "Pungency disperses, alkalinity softens," so it serves as the Assistant herb. Once the throat is unblocked and liquid medication can be taken, stop using it. If all phlegm is attacked and exhausted, there will be no fluid to nourish the sinews, leading to spasms, hemiplegia, and paralysis; this is a great taboo.
Can treat stroke with excessive phlegm-saliva.
Take Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, remove joints), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Baijiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Nanxing (Arisaematis Tuber). Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
Treats long-standing wind-dampness from stroke, causing pain in the waist, back, hands, and feet, with flaccidity, bi-syndrome, and numbness.
Take Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, stir-fried with wine), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried with bran), Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix, honey-roasted), Bao Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, remove bark), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, soaked in wine, each two qian), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted, one qian). Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and take orally.
