To treat infantile Baihu disease (a severe condition characterized by high fever and convulsions in infants).
Jiangzhen Xiang (Dipterocarpus resin), Chenxiang (Aquilaria wood), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Tanxiang (Sandalwood), Renshen (Ginseng), Anshixiang (Styrax), Fushen (Poria with hostwood), Gancao (Licorice root) are decocted in water. Banzi (half a Chinese character weight) of Shexiang (Musk) is added for oral administration. The medicinal dregs are burned inside the room.
Zhubei disease (a contagious or lingering disease, often associated with miasma or parasitic infection) may be contracted during gestation or caused by improper lifestyle after birth. It suddenly manifests as Jue syndrome (cold limbs and loss of consciousness), resembling symptoms of Zhongfeng (Stroke), Zhong'e (sudden collapse due to evil qi), and Jingfeng (convulsions). There is phlegm surging upward, opisthotonos (backward arching of the back), complexion blue like indigo, frothing at the mouth, and delirious speech. Gradually, the facial skin becomes withered and dry, similar to Chuan shi (consumptive disease) in adults. If the complexion is blue-black with hand spasms, green veins on the forehead, locked teeth, trembling lips and eyes, and a swollen red head, it is incurable.
Zhong'e (sudden illness caused by invasion of noxious winds or miasma) presents with sudden coldness of the hands and feet, cyanosis of the face and head, confused and absurd speech, excessive fear of seeing ghosts, trismus (lockjaw), stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, and extreme restlessness bordering on death. A pulse that is tight, thin, and faint indicates a treatable condition; a pulse that is tight, large, and floating indicates critical danger. Sudden death also falls under this category. Generally, if a person has weak will and timid spirit, their Shen (Spirit) loses its residence. When combined with the decline of the annual fortune, the emptiness of the lunar phase, and disharmony of the season—known as "Three Deficiencies" (Sanxu)—adverse, evil, and thieving winds invade the deficiency. This causes Yin qi to exhaust internally and Yang qi to be blocked externally. The two Qi become stagnant and unable to ascend or descend, leading to sudden severe abdominal pain, scattering of Yang qi, and unconsciousness. If Qi does not completely depart, life can be restored; if Qi departs entirely, sudden death occurs.
To treat sudden Zhong'e, Kewu (invasion by external pathogens affecting the vital organs), and various acute epilepsy and convulsions.
Anshixiang (Styrax) 1 liang 5 qian (ground into powder, filtered through non-ash wine to remove sand and stones, yielding approximately 1 liang, then slowly boiled into an ointment for use); Hupo (Amber, ground); Xionghuang (Realgar, ground and washed with water); Sheng Daimao xie (Raw Tortoise plastron fragments); Zhusha (Cinnabar) — each 1 liang; Yinbo (Silver leaf, 50 pieces, ground); Longnao (Borneol); Shenxiang (Vetiveria root/Calamus, note: context implies aromatic resin, likely referring to a specific local variant or typo for another aromatic, but translated as given) 2 qian 5 fen; Sheng Wuxijiao (Fresh Black Rhinoceros horn, 1 liang); Niuhuang (Calculus bovis, 5 qian, ground); Jinbo (Gold leaf, 50 pieces, half used as coating, half mixed into the medicine).
Grind the fresh rhino horn and tortoise shell into extremely fine powder, uniformly mix with the remaining medicines. Melt the Anshixiang ointment using double-boiling method, and knead with the powder to form pills. If too dry, add honey. Form pills the size of Euryale seed (Qianshi). Administer by dissolving in Renshen Tang (Ginseng Decoction).
