Treats all kinds of sores, rashes, as well as carbuncles and swellings, with efficacy in promoting wound healing.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdi) (each 1 liang), Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix (Zicao), Bischofiae Semen (Mubiezi Rou) (shelled), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Terminalia Chebulae Fructus (Dafengzi Rou) (shelled, pounded), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Scrophulariae Radix (Yuan Shen) (each 5 qian), Sesame Oil (Mayou), Beeswax (Huangla) (2 liang).
First, put the first nine herbs into the oil and boil until scorched, then filter out the dregs. Pour the oil back into the pot and continue boiling until a drop forms a bead when tested in water. Then add the beeswax, testing that it does not disperse in water. Pour the ointment into a covered bowl and place it in water to cool for three days to eliminate "fire qi," ready for application.
Ancient prescriptions for treating Yige (dysphagia and obstruction of the esophagus) often commonly used anti-emetic agents, without considering that vomiting is caused by dampness and should be treated with drying methods. Yige is a dryness syndrome and should be treated with moistening methods. The Classic says: "Accumulation of heat in the Three Yang meridians is called Ge." Accumulation refers to heat stagnation; severe heat leads to dryness. All cases of Yige fall under the description of "dryness and withering of the stomach cavity." If the withering is in the upper stomach, fluids can pass but food is difficult to enter. If the withering is in the lower stomach, food may enter but is vomited up after a long time. Since the stomach is already withered, administering drying medicines would only exacerbate the dryness. Therefore, Da Banxia Tang (Large Pinellia Decoction) and Xiao Banxia Tang (Small Pinellia Decoction) are contraindicated in the category of Yige. I have used Qige San (Qi-Opening Powder) to open the obstruction, assisted by Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) to regulate the spleen and stomach. In cases complicated by depression, Xiaoyao San (Free Wanderer Powder) is the primary prescription. Although Xiaoyao San is used, if the patient's mind is not free from worry, it is of no benefit. Zhang Jifeng said: "This disease is an ailment of the spirit and mind; the method should involve introspection and quiet nourishment." This statement deeply hits the mark regarding the condition. However, among these cases, some are complicated by parasites, blood stasis, phlegm accumulation, or food retention, which must be treated concurrently according to the law, and cannot be ignored.
Prescriptions for unblocking Yige and opening obstructions have proven effective repeatedly.
Glehniae Radix (Shashen), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen), Poria (Fuling), Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Chuanbeimu) (core removed, 1.5 qian), Curcumae Radix (Yujin) (0.5 qian), Amomi Fructus Rotundus Pericarpium (Sharen Qiao) (0.4 qian), Nelumbinis Nucleus Pedunculus (Hetiao Di) (2 pieces), Rice Bran from Mortar Base (Chutou Kang) (0.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
For deficiency patterns, add Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen). If the aforementioned symptoms are accompanied by parasite accumulation, add Coptidis Rhizoma (Hulian) and Terminalia Catappa Seed (Wuyi); in severe cases, use Hejian Xionghuang San (Hejian Realgar Powder) to induce vomiting. If accompanied by blood stasis, add Persicae Semen (Taoren) and Carthami Flos (Honghua), or drink fresh juice of Allium Tuberosum (Shengjiuzhi). If accompanied by phlegm accumulation, add Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Guangjuhong). If accompanied by food retention, add Raphani Semen (Bai Fuzi/Laobu) and Malto (Maiya). In this disease, there are cases presenting as "Shengshe" (likely referring to herpes zoster or similar dermatological conditions); Hua Tuo used vinegar-soaked garlic, having the patient eat until full, causing the expulsion of foreign matter, which is truly a miraculous method.
