[Outline of Ben Tun Syndrome] The kidneys retain accumulated pathogens that fail to dissipate, with Yin qi solidifying in the lower abdomen. Once it erupts, various diseases arise, and fire pathogens attack the throat and seven orifices.
Fuling Guizhi Gancao Dazao Tang (Poria, Cinnamon Twig, Licorice, and Large Date Decoction)
(The formula and syndrome are both described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage])
Guizhi Jia Gui Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Added Cinnamon Twig)
(The formula and syndrome are both described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage])
Ben Tun Syndrome
When Ben Tun disease erupts severely, the condition is critical; Qi rushes upward to the chest causing physical exhaustion, accompanied by abdominal pain and headache, while alternating chills and fever remain unknown to others.
Ben Tun Tang (Ben Tun Decoction)
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), and Ligenpi (Li Root Bark) are used; Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) are most appropriate; Shengge (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) must be added together; this decoction can cure severe Ben Tun eruptions.
[Outline of Jue Syndrome] When limbs become cold and Jue syndrome initially forms, its causes are diverse and require clear differentiation. Prescribing formulas according to syndromes follows established methods, allowing for precise treatment when applied flexibly.
Danggui Sini Zheng (Danggui Sini Pattern)
(The formula is described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage]) When hand and foot coldness belong to exterior patterns, and the pulse is faint and nearly imperceptible indicating a critical condition, Danggui Sini Tang (Angelica Sinensis Decoction for Extremity Coldness) can be used; restoring Yang internally and externally is a miraculous method.
Tongmai Sini Zheng (Tongmai Sini Pattern)
(The formula is described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage]) When four limbs are cold and strength is insufficient to support the body, and the pulse is thin followed by palpitations nearing collapse, Cold Jue clearly belongs to interior patterns; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) should be combined.
Sini San Zheng (Sini Powder Pattern)
(The formula is described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage]) When the disease involves difficulty in the smooth connection of Yin and Yang, limb coldness forms Jue causing unrest; if heat predominates and belongs to the exterior, what medicine should be used? Administering Sini San (Counterflow Powder) is an excellent remedy.
Baihu Zheng (Baihu Pattern)
Da Chengqi Zheng (Da Chengqi Pattern)
(Both formulas are described in *Shanghan Lun* [Treatise on Cold Damage]) When Yang reaches its extreme and Yin generates abnormally, and the momentum of cold limbs is unbearable, one must know that interior heat reverses into Jue; Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) must be combined with Da Chengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction).
Banxia Mo Fang (Pinellia Powder Formula)
(Syndrome attached: This is named Da Jue [Great Jue]) Sudden death occurs without consciousness; Pinellia should be ground into fine powder, blown into the nose to induce sneezing immediately, and after Jue resolves, another prescription should be formulated.
Huanhun Tang (Return the Soul Decoction)
(Syndrome attached) Differentiate clearly whether the body has a pulse but lacks consciousness, forming Shi Jue [Corpse Jue]. Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) are used together; the Huanhun method is miraculous and can restore life.
Puhuang Jiu Fang (Pollen Typhae Wine Formula)
(Syndrome attached) When Qi and Blood contend and the disease deepens, named Bo Jue [Thin Jue], which is difficult to control; Black Soybean in the formula should be stir-fried first, then combined with Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) and drenched with wine.
Qi Qi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction)
(Syndrome attached) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Fuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens); the decoction named Qi Qi has specific expertise; when Jue forms suddenly due to violent anger, using this method for revival is best.
Er Zhu Er Chen Tang (Two Atractylodes and Two Chen Decoction)
(Syndrome attached) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) are shared; Zhushu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) are combined; Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia Succus), Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum), and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Succus) are added; this formula treats Jue by attacking Phlegm.
Pingwei Zheng (Pingwei Pattern)
(The formula is described in the Sour Regurgitation chapter) The cause arises suddenly from overeating; this syndrome was originally named Shi Jue [Food Jue]; the treatment method should use Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder), and adding Laifuzi (Raphani Semen) makes it particularly effective.
Wuling San Modified Formula
(Syndrome attached) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), and Erling (both Poria and Polyporus) can be decocted together; add Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma); after drinking alcohol and becoming drunk, Jue may result; using this good formula leads to immediate recovery.
Baiwei Tang (Anemarrhenae Decoction)
(Syndrome attached) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) are decocted together with Baiwei (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma); Tongjing (unblocking collaterals) requires adding Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix); when women's Qi and Blood completely form Jue, using this formula offers a turning point for revival.
