[From *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*] Baiwei San (White Violet Decoction): Treats urinary incontinence during pregnancy where the patient is unaware of the leakage. (See formula under "Heat" section above.)

Postpartum, use a single-ingredient Sangpiaoxiao San (Mantis Egg-case Powder) to treat frequent urination and incontinence during pregnancy. (See formula under "Lower Deficiency" section above.) Another prescription: Burn chicken tail feathers to ash, mix with wine, and take one fangcun bi (a measure roughly equivalent to a teaspoon).

[Commentary by Wu] In women during the puerperium, if labor is difficult, it may cause injury to the bladder, resulting in involuntary urination at any time.

[Danxi] I have once seen cases of the urinary bladder being damaged due to the negligence of midwives, leading to dribbling urine, rendering the condition a chronic disability. One day, a Mrs. Xu, who was young but suffered from difficult labor, contracted this illness. I reasoned that if external muscle tears can be repaired, perhaps the bladder, though internal, could also be treated. Upon examining her pulse, it was found to be extremely deficient. I stated, "The cause of difficult labor is often Qi deficiency; postpartum, Qi and Blood are even more deficient. Let us try vigorous tonification." Therefore, I used Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) as the sovereign drugs, Xiong Gui (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome and Angelica Sinensis Radix) as the minister drugs, and Tao Ren (Peach Kernel), Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel), Huang Qi (Astragalus Membranaceus Root), and Fu Ling (Poria) as the assistant drugs. The decoction was prepared using broth from pig or sheep bladders, administered when the patient was extremely hungry. However, the dosage was small, typically only one liang, and after one month, she recovered. This was likely because the rapid growth of Qi and Blood allowed the bladder to heal naturally; had the treatment been slower, success might have been difficult.

[Qiaoting] For postpartum urinary incontinence accompanied by slight facial edema and mild afternoon fever, this indicates the bladder has been injured by the midwife.
Huang Qi (Astragalus Root), Dang Gui Wei (Angelica Sinensis Tail), Shao Yao (Peony Root) (1.5 qian each); Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (1 qian); Ren Shen (Ginseng Root); Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) (0.5 qian); Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) (a little).
Decoct and drink while hot.

[Yun] Sangpiaoxiao San (Mantis Egg-case Powder): Treats postpartum frequent urination and enuresis.

Another prescription:
Sang Piao Xiao (Mantis Egg-case) (0.5 liang, stir-fried); Long Gu (Fossilized Bones) (1 liang).

Diseases of the External Genitals: There are two meridians passing through the external genitals: one is the Liver Meridian, and the other is the Du Meridian. The classics state: "The Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian enters the pubic hair region, passes through the genitalia, and reaches the lower abdomen," which is the path of the Liver Meridian. It also states: "The Du Meridian originates in the lower abdomen, descends to the central bone. In women, it enters and connects to the Ting Kong (opening of the vagina); it follows the genitalia. In men, it follows the penis down to the perineum, similar to women." This is the path of the Du Meridian.
