Treats cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, muscle spasms (tetany), as well as dysentery with abdominal pain and all types of Sha syndrome (sand illness). When taken sublingually on a daily basis, it can prevent the transmission of various epidemics.
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (ten taels, finely powdered) Xixin (Herba Asari) (one tael and a half, finely powdered) Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae) (one tael, finely powdered) Bohebing (Borneolum Syntheticum) (four qian, finely powdered) Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) (two qian, finely powdered) Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (three taels, finely powdered)
First, mix the first five ingredients evenly, use water to form pills the size of paulownia seeds, and dry them in the shade (avoid direct sunlight). Then, coat the pills with Zhusha powder, ensuring no residue remains. Place them in a cloth bag with liuzhu (glazed beads), and shake back and forth vigorously until they become smooth and solid. Stored for a long time this way, the medicinal aroma will not dissipate. For treating cholera, eighty pills are recommended per dose, taken with warm water. For other conditions, forty to fifty pills are appropriate. After taking the medicine, one should keep warm to induce a slight sweat. For daily prevention of epidemics via sublingual administration, one to four pills per dose are suitable. This medicine is also effective for treating headache and toothache (via sublingual administration), pain in the epigastrium, hypochondrium, and throughout the joints and meridians, as well as Qi stagnation, Phlegm stagnation, Food stagnation, hiccups, and retching. It awakens the brain and nourishes the spirit; it clears heat in the upper body and warms the lower body. Its numerous benefits cannot be fully enumerated.
Regarding the two formulas above, the latter contains two more warming herbs than the former. The former has a slightly cool nature, while the latter balances cool and warm properties. Users should exercise discretion based on the etiology, choosing between cooling and warming treatments accordingly. If the latter formula is needed urgently in clinical practice and there is no time to make pills, it can be prepared as a powder. Each dose is one qian, which yields faster results.

Letter from Sun XX of Yanshan, Zhili:
In June 1924, the mother of my friend Du XX contracted cholera, presenting with vomiting and diarrhea, tetany, and abdominal pain, with all six pulses obstructed. After examination, I prescribed the Wei Sheng Fang Yi Bao Dan formula, ground into powder, with each dose being one qian. After the first dose, vomiting and diarrhea subsided slightly. After the second dose, the patient recovered completely.
In the deep winter of that year, the daughter-in-law of Deng XX contracted cholera. It was already midnight when she requested medical attention. She presented with vomiting, diarrhea, tetany, absent pulses in all six positions, mental confusion, and occasional delirium. Treated with Wei Sheng Fang Yi Bao Dan, she vomited initially after the first dose, but after the second dose, her pulse gradually returned, and she recovered.
