Title: Volume I: External Treatment Methods
Classification: Explanation of Instruments
Attributes: [1] The 'Pijian' (Shoulder Wrap) is made from a piece of cured cowhide, five cun long and three cun wide, with two holes opened at each end. It is placed over the injured site, threaded with cotton rope, and tied tightly. It offers slightly more flexibility compared to wooden boards.
[2] Explanation of Usage:
<1> For injuries to both shoulders caused by falling or twisting, where the bone may be fractured, displaced laterally, protruding obliquely, or where the joint space has separated and tendons are dislocated.
<2> The treatment method requires the patient to lie supine on a stool, realigning the bone fractures and massaging the tendon knots.
<3> First, pad the body closely with cotton wool, then clamp the anterior and posterior aspects of the shoulder with the Pijian and tie it tightly.
<4> Subsequently, wrap the exterior with white cloth. Then, use an arm-support board, approximately two chi long and three to four cun wide, with ropes threaded through both ends to hang it suspended. Have the patient lie prone on it to prevent the shoulder bones from sagging.
<5> After seven days, open and inspect. If fully healed, remove the board and discontinue use. If not yet healed, continue using it.
<6> Failure to follow this treatment method will inevitably result in residual deformities, such as knotted lumps resembling reed joints.
