[Prescription Verse] Chapped skin (frostbite) is caused by exposure to severe cold, leading to coagulation of Qi and blood, resulting in hard swelling and stiffness of the muscles. Rubbing with cool water dissipates heat; it is strictly forbidden to use fire for warming, as sores will form immediately.
[Annotation] This condition results from exposure to severe cold, which injures the skin and flesh, causing Qi and blood to coagulate. The muscles become hard, swollen, stiff, and numb, losing sensation of pain and itch. On the frozen area, loosen clothing and rub to promote the movement of Qi and blood; then frequently wash with cool water until warmth is felt and the numbness resolves, restoring normal circulation. If frostbite has persisted for a long time with indurated nodules that do not resolve, take a piece of ice, wrap it in silk, and apply it to the area until the hardened nodules completely dissolve; this is a method of "treating according to the disease" (following the nature of the pathogen). If sudden freezing is followed by immediate exposure to heat, entering a warm room, using fire to warm, or soaking in hot water, it will inevitably cause tissue necrosis and deformity. Mild cases result in ulceration; severe cases lead to exposed bone and connected tendons, requiring urgent excision of the affected tendons, otherwise the healthy surrounding flesh will be eroded. Initial treatment should employ Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng Decoction for Nourishing Qi and Blood), taken with fine wine. For ulcerated cases, treat according to the methods for carbuncles and ulcers. Some chronic cases lasting years can be effectively treated with Dusheng Gao (Single Victory Ointment) applied externally.
Formula: Dusheng Gao (Single Victory Ointment)
Composition: On the 6th, 16th, and 26th days of the sixth lunar month, crush single-clove garlic into a paste, heat it in the sun, and apply it to the frostbitten area, then dry it in the sun. Avoid getting water on the affected area.
Another Formula: Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng Decoction for Nourishing Qi and Blood) (See Section on Ulcers)
[Prescription Verse] Human bite injuries are caused by toxins from teeth, resulting in unusual swelling, pain, foul odor, and ulceration. Throughout the course of treatment, washing with urine from a young boy is always appropriate, and the Chan Su Bing (Toad Venom Cake) yields the best results.
[Annotation] This injury occurs because human teeth have consumed roasted or slaughtered items, gradually accumulating toxicity. Consequently, upon being bitten, the wound presents with swelling, pain, foul odor, and ulceration, differing from ordinary wounds. At the initial stage of the bite, soak the injured area in hot urine from a young boy to wash away dental plaque and dirty blood, then apply Chan Su Bing (Toad Venom Cake) and cover with Wanying Gao (All-Purpose Plaster). Healing occurs when slight pus exudes. If treatment is delayed, rotting, pain, and swelling worsen; continue soaking and washing with urine. Next, ignite an oil-soaked paper wick and fumigate the affected area for a considerable time, then insert a Chan Su Tiao (Toad Venom Strip) matching the size of the wound, cover with a cake-like application, and overlay with Wanying Gao (All-Purpose Plaster). When swelling subsides, decoct 2 liang of scallion white and 5 qian of Gancao (Licorice Root) in water, wash once daily, change to Shengji Yuhong Gao (Flesh-Regenerating Jade Red Ointment), and cover with Wanying Gao (All-Purpose Plaster) to close the wound. Another method: Immediately after the bite, wash with urine and apply human feces; when swelling and ulceration occur, wash with decoction made from Renzhonghuang (Human Excrement Refiner). These methods are considered particularly miraculous compared to other treatments.
