[Upper Compilation External Treatment Methods - Head and Face]
[1] The lips and mouth are the orifices responsible for speech and eating.
[2] If the upper lip is broken and missing due to falls or blows, take a small strip of silk cloth, wrap it from the back of the head forward to bind and suture the wound. First, use mulberry root bark (Sangbaipi) twisted into thread to stitch the wound firmly. Next, apply sealing paste (Fengkou Yao). Then, cover the sealing paste with hemostatic ointment (Jiexue Gao) to prevent it from falling off. Speech should still be avoided.
[3] If the lower lip is injured and missing, use a silk cloth to support and bind from under the chin. The treatment is the same as the previous method.
Note: Formulas:
[1] Hemostatic Ointment (Jiexue Gao)
Indications: Various conditions caused by falls, cuts, and bumps; capable of resolving blood stasis, breaking up accumulations, reducing swelling, and relieving pain.
Ingredients: Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen) 3 liang, Curcumae Longae Rhizoma cum Folio (Pianzi Jianghuang), Paeoniae Rubra Radix (Chishaoyao), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), each 1 liang.
Preparation: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix evenly with tea water and apply around the perimeter of the wound.
Usage:
- For head or facial injuries with unceasing bleeding, urgently mix this medicine and apply around the neck.
- For hand injuries, apply around the arm.
- For foot injuries, apply around the leg.
- For injuries elsewhere, apply around the wound perimeter to intercept the flow of blood.
- If the flesh at the wound remains hard and does not subside, it indicates invasion by Wind pathogen. Add Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo) and apply mixed with hot wine.
- If it still does not subside, the Wind-toxin has penetrated deeply and muscles are firm. Add Powder of Cinnamomi Cassiae Ramulus (Zijingpi) and apply mixed. It will inevitably resolve.
[2] Sealing Paste (Fengkou Yao): See section on Nasal Bridge Bone Injury.
[Upper Compilation External Treatment Methods - Instrument Explanation]
[1] Zhen Ting (Vibration Stick), also known as a wooden stick, is one chi five cun long and round like a coin in diameter; a rolling pin may also be used.
[2] Since injury causes Qi and Blood to coagulate, resulting in pain, swelling, and hardness, using this stick to gently vibrate and strike the area above, below, and around the injury promotes the circulation of Qi and Blood, allowing them to disperse. Consequently, pain gradually decreases, and swelling and hardness gradually subside.
[3) Usage Explanation:
<1> In cases where the head suffers trauma but the bone is not fractured and tendons are not severed, even if there is blood stasis accumulation causing swelling and pain, the condition is treatable.
<2> First, use manual therapy to align and lift the bones and tendons of the neck and nape. Then, wrap the head tightly with two or three layers of cloth. Subsequently, gently tap the sole of the foot with the vibration stick. This promotes the free flow of Qi among the Five Zang Organs up and down, disperses blood stasis, prevents it from rushing to the Heart, avoids vomiting or hiccups, and calms the Spirit (Shen).
<3> If, after wrapping the head and tapping the soles of the feet, the patient feels no pain, is unconscious, has rattling phlegm sounds resembling sawing, exhibits body stiffness, and drools saliva, this indicates that Qi and Blood are on the verge of exhaustion. Such cases are untreatable.
