Xiaochang Qi (Intestinal Gas) characterized by pain radiating to the lower abdomen, waist, and spine is appropriately treated with Jiawei Xiangsu San (Modified Fragrant Eupatorium Powder) for warming and dispersing. If the pain ascends to cause heart pain, Shixiao San (Pain-Dispersing Powder) should be used. If there is a tangible mass in the abdomen, Hulu Ba Wan (Fenugreek Pill) is indicated.
[Note]
The syndrome of Xiaochang Qi (Intestinal Gas) shares etiology with Shan Qi (Hernia). It arises from dampness retained internally combined with cold binding externally. Upon onset, it presents with distension of the lower abdomen, pain radiating from the testicles to the waist and spine, and qi counterflow causing heart pain, without local swelling. Treatment must differentiate based on symptom morphology: For pain radiating to the waist, Jiawei Xiangsu San (Modified Fragrant Eupatorium Powder) is used to warm and disperse; for pain accompanied by qi counterflow to the heart, Jiawei Shixiao San (Modified Pain-Dispersing Powder) is the primary formula; for a tangible mass resembling an egg in the lower abdomen that moves up and down with unbearable pain, Hulu Ba Wan (Fenugreek Pill) is indicated.
(Modified Fragrant Eupatorium Powder) Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) soaked in rice wash water, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chuanlianrou (Toosendan Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Suye (Perillae Folium), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) stir-fried with vinegar.
Decoct with scallion white with roots, water, and wine.
(Prescription Verse)
Jiawei Xiangsan contains Cangzhu, Guang Chenpi and Chuanlianrou, Gancao, Suye, and Xiangfu together, decocted with scallion white with roots.
(Modified Pain-Dispersing Powder) Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) stir-fried between papers, Yuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) each in equal parts stir-fried with vinegar, ground into fine powder.
Take 1–2 qian per dose, mixed with water and wine.
(Fenugreek Pill) Hulu Ba (Trigonellae Semens) stir-fried, Chuanlianzi (Meliae Fructus) 4 qian each steamed, skin and seeds removed, dried; Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) peeled of skin and navel, Bajirou (Morindae Officinalis Radix) 1.5 qian each, Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus) 3 qian, Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 2.5 qian half soaked overnight in half wine and half vinegar, then dried; Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) 2 qian stir-fried. All ingredients are ground into fine powder, made into pills using wine yeast paste, sized like paulownia seeds.
Take several pills per dose, swallowed with warm wine on an empty stomach.
All types of Lin Syndrome (Dysuria) originate from cold, heat, and dampness pathogens shifting downward to the Bladder, causing frequent urination without regular intervals. The urinary pathway becomes obstructed and stagnant, often causing pain. Treatment should follow the specific presentation: cold, heat, stone, or blood Lin.
[Note]
Pediatric Lin Syndrome (Dysuria) may result from Wind-Cold invading the body or Damp-Heat shifting downward, entering the Bladder. This causes obstruction and stagnation of the urinary pathway, leading to difficulty voiding, continuous dribbling, and even blockage causing pain in children. However, one must distinguish whether it is Cold or Heat, Stone or Blood Lin, and treat accordingly. Once the urinary pathway is unobstructed, Lin Syndrome will heal spontaneously.
