The method of wiping the mouth must employ Yan Zhi (Cinnabar and Honey mixture), cleaning the oral cavity thoroughly to prevent oral diseases. The ancients stated that one should remove impurities before the infant cries, merely because they failed to carefully examine the underlying principles.
[Note]
When an infant is first born, one should pre-emptively wrap soft cotton around a finger to wipe away any unclean substances from the mouth. Subsequently, apply Yan Zhi (Cinnabar and Honey mixture) dipped in tea liquor to rub between the tongue, teeth, and cheeks. This prevents the occurrence of various oral diseases.
The ancients said: "Before the child cries, first remove the foul blood." This reflects the ancients' lack of detailed observation and understanding.
Since the fetus resides within the amniotic sac, nourishment is derived via the umbilical cord. Within the sac, there is only ethereal vital essence undergoing growth and transformation; there are no blood vessels. Thus, where would the blood in the infant's mouth come from? This assertion is absurd and should not be taken as a standard.

The method using Gan Cao (Licorice Root) has been praised since ancient times for its ability to detoxify various poisons with a neutral nature. Decoct it strongly and have the infant suck it frequently to prevent fetal toxins from accumulating in the abdomen.
[Note]
Gan Cao (Licorice Root) is sweet in taste and neutral in nature, serving as a herb to resolve hundred toxins for the five zang organs. It can be used in all four seasons and is suitable for both deficiency and excess conditions.
Take a segment of the middle finger's length, decoct it in water until concentrated. Wrap cotton around a finger, dip it in the liquid, and let the infant suck it; the toxins will naturally resolve.

Fetal heat accumulated due to constitutional endowment lies within the interior; only the Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) method is most effective. Soak Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) in water to extract a concentrated juice and drip it into the mouth. With the passage of meconium, the fetal toxins are thereby cleared.
[Note]
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) is a key herb for clearing heat and resolving toxicity. Whenever observing infants with signs of fetal heat during summer or any season,
one must fear that heat accumulation in the interior may cause other diseases, thus its use is appropriate. Take several pieces of Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), crush them, and soak them in hot water to extract the juice.
Drip it into the infant's mouth occasionally, stopping when meconium is passed; the toxins will naturally resolve.

Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) and Mi Feng (Honey) calm the spirit and benefit the intestines and stomach, demonstrating great merit in clearing heat and preventing convulsions. They are applicable for fetal heat and constipation, but should be used with caution in infants with weak constitution.
[Note]
Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) calms the heart and settles fright, while also dispelling evil pathogens. Mi Feng (Honey) resolves toxicity and moistens the intestines, further clearing heat.
One calms and one moistens, yielding extraordinary efficacy. For cases of fetal heat and constipation, it can be used in all four seasons.
Take an amount the size of a soybean, grind it finely, process it by water flotation (water flying), mix evenly with refined honey, and administer best when dissolved in breast milk.
However, for those with extremely weak constitutional endowment, it is not suitable for use.
