Shi Li (Seasonal Dysentery) refers to dysentery complicated by the contraction of seasonal pathogens, presenting with fever, absence of sweating, and generalized body pain. When heat is constrained by external pathogens leading to vomiting, Canglin Tang (Granary Decoction) demonstrates remarkable efficacy.
[Note]
Shi Li (Seasonal Dysentery) occurs when a patient suffering from dysentery contracts seasonal pathogens.
The symptoms include fever, absence of sweating, generalized body pain, and frequent retching due to heat constrained by pathogens.
It is necessary to use Canglin Tang (Granary Decoction) to disperse the exterior and resolve the seasonal pathogen first, after which the dysentery will cease spontaneously.
(Canglin Tang) Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root), Fu Chao Zhi Ke (Bran-fried Aurantii Fructus), Cang Mi (Unhusked Rice), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix). Decoct with fresh ginger water for administration.

Malaria (Nue Ji) results from summer-heat contracted in summer and wind-cold contracted in autumn, where Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) qi combine to form the disease. The simultaneous occurrence of Yin and Yang leads to alternating chills and fever, with clear distinctions in depth and severity.
[Note]
Malaria (Nue Ji) is mostly caused by summer-heat injury in summer, where the pathogen resides within Ying (Nutrient) qi. Upon contracting wind-cold in autumn,
Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) qi combine with pathogens to form malaria. Alternating chills and fever during attacks result from the conjunction of Yin and Yang.
Daily attacks occur because the pathogen is initially shallow, hiding in Ying (Nutrient) qi and moving along the meridians.
Every-other-day attacks occur because the pathogen has penetrated deeply into the spine and muscles, hiding in the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel).
Daytime attacks indicate the pathogen is in the shallow layer of the Three Yang meridians.
Nighttime attacks indicate the pathogen is in the deep layer of the Three Yin meridians.
When malaria is about to recede, the timing shifts from night to day, and from every-other-day to daily.
This represents the pathogen moving from Yin to Yang, from deep to shallow, indicating the disease is about to heal.
Practitioners must carefully differentiate these patterns.
