4. Muxiang Liuqi Yin (Musk-Containing Qi-Flowing Decoction) regulates various qi mechanisms, ensuring smooth flow through the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) and unimpeded circulation of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) qi. It reaches both exterior and interior, opens the chest and diaphragm, and treats swelling, wheezing, cough, and pain caused by qi stagnation. The formula consists of Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction: Renshen, Baizhu, Fuling, Zhigancao) plus Dingpiperis Cortex (Cortex Schisandrae Chinensis), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus), Ziye (Perillae Folium), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Pengzhu (Curcumae Phaeocaulis Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis).
[Note] Muxiang Liuqi Yin is used to treat all diseases caused by qi dysfunction. Its functions are to facilitate the Sanjiao, promote the circulation of Ying and Wei qi; reach the exterior qi outwardly, penetrate the interior qi inwardly, and open the qi in the chest and diaphragm centrally. It treats edema, distension, fullness, wheezing and cough due to qi congestion, wandering qi pain, and internal and external pain. The ingredients include Renshen, Baizhu, Fuling, Zhigancao, Chenpi, Banxia, Dingpiperis Cortex, Chenxiang, Muxiang, Rougui, Baizhi, Xiangfu, Caoguo, Ziye, Qingpi, Dahuang, Zhike, Houpo, Binglang, Pengzhu, Maidong, Dafupi, Mugua, and Mutong.
5. Fenxin Qi Yin treats qi stagnation caused by the Seven Emotions (joy, anger, worry, thought, grief, fear, fright), relieving the non-circulation of qi in the chest and abdomen. The formula is Huoxiang Zhengqi San (Patchouli Powder to Rectify the Qi) minus Baizhi and Houpo, plus Mutong, Muxiang, Xiangfu, Maidong, Guanzi Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Qingpi, Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Binglang, Zhike, and Pengzhu.
[Note] Fenxin Qi Yin treats chest and abdominal disorders due to qi stagnation from the Seven Emotions. "Zheng" refers to Huoxiang Zhengqi San. "Zheng Jian" means modifying Huoxiang Zhengqi San by removing Baizhi and Houpo, and adding Mutong, Muxiang, Xiangfu, Maidong, Guanzi Gui, Qingpi, Sangbaipi, Binglang, Zhike, and Pengzhu.
6. Suzi Jiangqi Tang (Perilla Seed Decoction to Direct Qi Downward) treats upward attacking qi, characterized by deficiency below and excess above, with congestion of qi and phlegm, resulting in wheezing, cough, expectoration of saliva, chest and diaphragm fullness, constipation due to qi stagnation, and vomiting blood due to rebellious qi. The formula consists of Chenpi, Banxia, Rougui, Nan Suzi (Perillae Semen), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Houpo, Chenxiang, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Yueju Tang (Yueju Decoction) treats six types of stagnation: food stagnation, qi stagnation, blood stagnation, phlegm stagnation, dampness stagnation, and heat stagnation. The formula consists of Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Xiangfu, and Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma). If qi stagnation persists for a long time, it inevitably combines with blood, phlegm, dampness, heat, fluid retention, and food. Therefore, formulas treating stagnation can also treat qi stagnation. For excess qi, add Muxiang; for deficient qi, add Renshen; for excess blood, add Honghua (Carthami Flos); for deficient blood, add Danggui; for excessive phlegm, add Banxia; for excessive dampness, add Baizhu; for excessive heat, add Yuzhu (Evodiae Fructus) and Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma); for excessive fluid retention, add Fuling; for excessive food retention, add Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus). Clinical judgment is required.
Siju Siqi Tang
7. Siju Siqi Tang treats phlegm generated by qi stagnation from the Seven Emotions, manifesting as a sensation of a plum pit obstructing the throat, difficult to swallow or spit out. This is a mild formula that harmonizes various qi mechanisms, prepared by decocting Banxia, Fuling, Houpo, and Zisu Ye (Perillae Folium). To move qi effectively, add Chenpi, Gancao, and Xiangfu. This formula is highly effective for women's qi disorders. For morning sickness (Ezu), add Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba). For obese, fair-skinned women with excessive phlegm and qi stagnation accompanied by leukorrhea, this formula can be taken with Qingzhou Baiwanzi (Qingzhou White Pills).
[Note] Siju Siqi Tang treats disorders arising from excessive Seven Emotions and the generation of Seven Qi pathologies, leading to phlegm condensation. The phlegm resembles cotton wool or membranes, condensing in the throat, impossible to fully expectorate or swallow, known as "Plum-Pit Qi" (Meiheqi). If untreated for a long time, it may transform into dysphagia (Yege), presenting with upper regurgitation of saliva and lower obstruction of bowel and bladder movements. A mild formula should be used, consisting of Banxia, Fuling, Houpo, and Zisu Ye. If there is discomfort of qi in the chest and abdomen, add Chenpi, Gancao, and Xiangfu; it also treats all qi disorders in women. Pregnant women prone to vomiting, known as Ezu (morning sickness), may have added Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Baishao. Women who are fat and fair, suffering from phlegm and qi stagnation with turbid leukorrhea, may also use this formula administered with Qingzhou Baiwanzi.

8. Zhenxin Dan (Heart-Calming Pill) treats excess-type palpitations/fright, composed of Zhusha (Cinnabar), Longchi (Draconis Os), and Xueyutan (Hominis Crinis Carbonisatus). It consists of equal parts of Zhusha powder and Longchi powder, formed into pills the size of Coicis Semen using pig heart blood. Take three pills at a time, washed down with Maidong decoction. For heart qi deficiency causing fright/palpitations, Miaoxiang San plus Shichangpu is indicated. It consists of Muxiang, Shexiang, Shanyao, Fushen, Renshen, Huangqi, Zhigancao, Zhusha, Jiegeng, Yuanzhi, Fuling, and Shichangpu.
