[Formula Verse] Two cauterizing needles are required, which must be identical in size and shape. They should be as thick as chopsticks, with rounded heads and a length of seven cun. When ignited, dip them in sesame oil and burn them red over charcoal fire. Insert them obliquely and cauterize towards the soft area for optimal effect. If one cauterization is not thorough enough, it is advisable to cauterize again until pus and fluid flow out, ensuring the patient's recovery.
Then, insert a paper wick into the cauterized opening and apply an external plaster externally; this was strongly praised in ancient times. This method is rarely used nowadays, likely due to fear of startling or alarming patients. Currently, Yangsui Ding (Yang Sui Pellet) is mostly used to replace fire needles for cauterization, which is indeed a remarkable prescription.
[Annotation] For carbuncles, ulcers, and flowing nodules that persist without subsiding for a long time, where internal ulceration occurs but without pain, fire needle cauterization is suitable. The two needles should be identical, shaped like chopsticks in thickness, with rounded heads and a length of seven cun. To make the wick, dip it in sesame oil and burn it red over charcoal fire. Insert it obliquely near the lower part of the sore head, cauterizing towards the soft area. If one cauterization does not penetrate thoroughly, cauterize again until pus flows out naturally without manual pressure. Then, use cotton paper rolled into a rope-like wick, insert it into the cauterized opening according to depth, separate the remaining paper, and apply an external plaster. This is the ancient method, rarely used today. It is presumably because of the fear of causing patient panic, so Yangsui Ding is used as a substitute.
Formula: Yangsui Ding (Yang Sui Pellet)
Composition: Chan Su (Toad Venom Powder), Zhusha (Cinnabar Powder), Chuan Wu (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata Powder), Cao Wu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata Powder, each 5 fen), Zhi Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus Powder, one piece).
Mix the above ingredients evenly. Place Liu Huang (Sulfur, 1 liang 5 qian) in a spoon and melt it slowly over mild fire. Next, add the aforementioned powders of Chan Su, etc., and stir well. Then add Dang Men Zi Shexiang (Moschus Powder, 2 fen) and Bing Pian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen), and stir well. Immediately pour the mixture into a wet porcelain dish and rapidly swirl to form a sheet. Wait for it to cool, then remove and store in a porcelain jar.
For use, take a piece the size of a sweet melon seed, with a pointed top and flat bottom. First, rub the acupoint/treatment area with red date flesh, stick the medicine onto it. Dip a rush light in oil, ignite it, and quench the Yangsui Ding pellet with the flame. Perform moxibustion for five, seven, or nine Zhu (moxa cones). After completion, drink half a wine cup of rice vinegar. Wait for small blisters to rise. Pierce them with a thread needle to release a little yellow fluid, then apply Wanying Gao (All-Effect Plaster); the toxicity will immediately dissipate. For wind-qi pain, press with a chopstick among bone fissures, mark the sore spot with ink, and perform moxibustion. Additionally, for various sores at the initial stage, perform three to five Zhu of moxibustion on the swollen area for immediate recovery.
[Formula Verse] Yangsui Ding treats cold-type swollen sores via moxibustion, composed of Zhusha (Cinnabar), Er Wu (Chuan Wu and Cao Wu), Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus), and Liu Huang (Sulfur). Refined by fire and added with Chan Su (Toad Venom), Bing Pian (Borneol), and Shexiang (Musk), pouring it out while hot to form sheets yields good results.
