[Formula Song] The appearance of erysipelas within smallpox is due to extreme heat; it is appropriate to apply blood-cooling and toxin-resolving agents. Apply internally and externally according to the degree of coldness, and bathe with Huaban Decoction (Hua Ban Tang) externally.
[Note] This condition arises from extreme internal heat. Internally, it is suitable to take Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), and Jing Su (Schizonepetae Spica) to naturally dissipate the toxin. If swelling and pain occur, add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix); if symptoms are severe on the top of the head, it indicates toxin gathering in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), and it is suitable to use Chao Huanglian (Stir-fried Coptidis Rhizoma), Chaihu, Gancao, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), and Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus). Externally, bathe with Huaban Jiedu Decoction (Hua Ban Jie Du Tang), and apply Zhu Dan (Porcine Bile), Jing Mo (Beijing Ink), and Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) according to the dosage of cold-natured medicines. The color and shape of erysipelas can be referenced against Chiyou Dansu (Red Wandering Erysipelas).
Formula: Huaban Jiedu Decoction (see section on Erysipelas arising internally in the Rib Area)
[Formula Song] Smallpox ulcers ooze and spread until no skin remains intact; scald tea leaves and spread them damp on the bed, place a layer of straw paper above for the child to lie on, and after one night, the pus dries and the ulcers heal.
[Note] This condition results from ruptured smallpox sores where the body has no intact skin, and pus fluid oozes and adheres to clothes. It is suitable to select tea leaves, remove the stems, blanch them once in boiling water, and immediately retrieve them; remove the stems again, spread them damp on the bed, place a layer of straw paper above, and let the child lie on it. After one night, the pus dries, which is very effective.
[Formula Song] Post-smallpox wind sores first cause itching, then spread into patches with exudate; encountering wind after smallpox easily leads to leprosy-like conditions, and applying Maiqian San (Wheat Coin Powder) is highly effective.
[Note] This condition is caused by exposure to wind after smallpox. Initially, fine sores appear with itching, then they spread into patches as exudate gradually increases and oozes. It is suitable to apply Shen Shi Jiu Ku San (Shen Shi Jiu Ku Powder) externally, while avoiding wind and observing dietary restrictions. In severe cases, scratching causes toxic exudate to ooze, leaving no intact skin, resulting in post-smallpox leprosy-like lesions. Urgently use Shiquan Dabu Decoction (Shiquan Dabu Tang) to greatly tonify Qi and Blood, combined with Sanfeng Kushen Wan (Sanfeng Kushen Pills) to clear heat and resolve toxins; take both formulas together. Applying Maiqian San externally is very effective.
Formula: Shen Shi Jiu Ku San
Composition: Miduoseng (Galena), Huashi (Talcum) (each 2 liang), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (5 qian).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. For dry conditions, mix with white honey and apply; for wet conditions, sprinkle the powder directly.
[Formula Song] Shen Shi Jiu Ku San consists of Baizhi, Miduoseng ground with Huashi; when post-smallpox wind sores rise and itch in patches, mixing with white honey for application can remove them.
Another Formula: Maiqian San
Composition: Xiaomai (Tritici Fructus) (stir-fried until charred but retaining essence, 1 he), Huangshan (Sulfur) (4 qian), Bai Pi (Realgar) (1 qian).
Grind together into a fine powder, then add Yanjiao Mo (Smoke Glue Powder) (8 qian), Kufan Mo (Alumen Powder) (3 qian), and Chuanjiao Mo (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium Powder) (3 qian), and mix evenly. First, wash the affected area with Scallion Decoction, mix with Xiangyou (Sesame Oil) for application, cover with oil paper and bind, and change every three days.
[Formula Song] Maiqian San treats post-smallpox wind-induced leprosy-like ailments; stir-fry wheat and add Realgar and Sulfur, then add Smoke Glue and Alumen powders, and mix well with Zanthoxylum and Sesame Oil for good effect.
Another Formula: Shiquan Dabu Decoction (see section on Ulcers)
Sanfeng Kushen Wan (see section on Migratory Tinea)
