The *Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth) states: The *Zhan Yu Jing* (Sufficient Remnants Classic) records: On the first day of the first lunar month, Ying Shi (Dwelling Mansion) is the ruling star; on the first day of the second month, Kui (Chariot) is the ruling star; on the first day of the third month, Wei (Stomach) is the ruling star; on the first day of the fourth month, Bi (Net) is the ruling star; on the first day of the fifth month, Jing (Well) is the ruling star; on the first day of the sixth month, Liu (Willow) is the ruling star; on the first day of the seventh month, Yi (Wings) is the ruling star; on the first day of the eighth month, Jiao (Horn) is the ruling star; on the first day of the ninth month, Di (Roots) is the ruling star; on the first day of the tenth month, Xin (Heart) is the ruling star; on the first day of the eleventh month, Dou (Dipper) is the ruling star; and on the first day of the twelfth month, Nü (Girl) is the ruling star.
For each of the twelve months listed above, counting begins from the first day of the month (Yue Shuo) and continues until the last day of that month, which is the thirtieth day. By observing the numerical value of the day, one determines the corresponding Yue Su (Lunar Mansion). For example, for a person born on the seventh day of the first lunar month: the first day corresponds to Shi (Room), the second day to Pi (Breakthrough), the third day to Kui (Chariot), the fourth day to Lou (Bond), the fifth day to Wei (Stomach), the sixth day to Mao (Hair Pile), and the seventh day to Bi (Net). Thus, for someone born on the seventh day of the first month, the Yue Su is located at the Bi Star. Similarly, for an infant born on the third day of the sixth lunar month: the first day corresponds to Liu (Willow), the second day to Xing (Star), and the third day to Zhang (Spread Net); Zhang is therefore their respective mansion. All other cases follow this pattern.
