The *Qianjin Fang* states: It is discussed that for women, concern is required not only during labor but especially postpartum; the severity of critical conditions often arises from this. One must not indulge in reckless behavior or violate taboos simply because no other complications occurred during delivery. Though violations may initially seem as slight as an autumn hair, the resulting illness can be as heavy as a mountain. Why? Because postpartum diseases are more difficult to treat than other ailments. After childbirth, the five zang organs are deficient and emaciated; only tonification should be employed, never purgation. If disease is present, potent medicines are necessary. However, using such strong remedies further increases deficiency, leading to "deficiency within deficiency," which is extremely perilous. This is why the consequences are considered "great."
For one hundred days after childbirth, a woman must maintain a state of caution, fear, and reverence, avoiding any violation of these taboos. Violating sexual intercourse is particularly severe. If violated, the body may become rigid and stiff, resembling opisthotonos (arched back), known as *Rufeng* (Puerperal Tetanus). This is the manifestation of violating the taboo. In such cases, the condition deteriorates rapidly like overturning a candle. All women should heed this with utmost care.
Sexual intercourse should only resume after one hundred days postpartum; otherwise, the woman will remain weak and emaciated until death, with various diseases proliferating. Be cautious, be cautious.
Many women suffer from wind-cold affecting the lower abdomen, usually due to premature sexual activity.
The *Duanju Fang* states: Life and death have their appointed times. In ancient times, the practice of sitting on straw after giving birth was akin to facing death. Upon successful delivery, it was called "escaping disaster." Relatives would bring pig liver to celebrate, using it to nourish and repair the internal injuries of the five zang organs, not merely to celebrate the birth of the child.
It also states: For the first month postpartum, since the body has undergone filth and blood has not yet cleared, the woman should not go outside through doors or windows, nor approach wells or stoves. She should not worship deities or perform sacrificial rites. The term "full month" (*yingyue*) does not strictly mean thirty days, but rather crossing into a new month. For example, if born in the first lunar month, crossing into the second and entering the third constitutes "crossing months."
It further states: During childbirth, the pelvic bones separate and open, allowing the uterus to expand so the infant can exit. It takes one hundred days for the bones to fully close and return to normal. Women are unaware of this process; believing they have recovered after just one month, they engage in sexual intercourse. This disrupts the balance of yin and yang and damages the hundred vessels, leading to illnesses of the five labors and seven injuries.
The *Yangsheng Zhi* states: Consuming vinegar-mixed noodles causes pallor in postpartum women. It also states: Consuming pears causes injury, leading to blood stasis and obstruction.
