(Prepared at the end of "Infant and Wet Nurse Formula" in Volume 7)
The *Duanju Fang* (Short Drama Formulary) states: The blood and Qi (vital energy) of a wet nurse transform into breast milk. The goodness or badness of the five emotions (joy, anger, worry, thought, fear) is generated by the blood and Qi. Those who nurse infants should be cautious about joy and anger. Regarding the suitable physical appearance and complexion of a wet nurse, there are many signs, which cannot be fully listed. Now, it is only required that she does not have bromhidrosis (fox odor), goiter (neck mass), KT ying (a type of neck disease), unpleasant odor, facial distortion or scars (wo), scabies (jie), tinea with itching (xuan sao), white alopecia (head vitiligo or alopecia areata), ulcers (yang), lip diseases, deafness, nasal diseases, epilepsy with vertigo (dian xuan). If she lacks these diseases, she can feed the infant. The master, seeing her past condition, can know the source of her illness through moxibustion on a pan (a diagnostic method or instrument).
The *Chan Jing* (Childbirth Classic) states:
A child born on Zi day is named Jiu (also known as Shou); a child born on Chou day is named Dai (also known as Xu, also known as Qubing); a child born on Yin day is named Ling (also known as Ajin); a child born on Mao day is named Guan (also known as Jin, also known as Xuanling); a child born on Chen day is named Dao (also known as Azhong); a child born on Si day is named Yizong (also known as Ashan); a child born on Wu day is named Xu (also known as Ashi); a child born on Wei day is named Hu; a child born on Shen day is named Duo (also known as Qi, also known as Li, also known as Huan); a child born on You day is named Duo; a child born on Xu day is named Daizi (also known as Di); a child born on Hai day is named Taren (also known as Lv).
It also states: A child born on the 1st, 11th, or 21st day of the first month, or on a Yin day or Yin hour, is named Zhengyuezi. A child born on the 2nd, 12th, or 22nd day of the second month, or on a Mao day or Mao hour, is named Eryuezi. A child born on the 5th, 15th, or 25th day of the fifth month, or on a Wu day or Wu hour, is named Wuyuezi. A child born on the 7th, 17th, or 27th day of the seventh month, or on a Shen day or Shen hour, is named Qiyuezi. These births where the day and month coincide can be considered taboos.
It also states: Children born in the second or fifth month are generally unfavorable to their parents. A boy born in the second month is named Andu, and a girl is named Hounv (also known as Dingnv), without disaster. A boy born in the fifth month is named Lian KT (also known as Fuyu), and a girl is named Konghuazhu. Naming them thus brings no disaster. This was created by King Wen of Zhou as divine characters, causing no harm to parents, auspicious.
It also states: When initially establishing a name, do not use the Five Zi days, as they are inauspicious. Do not use Si days either, as they are extremely inauspicious.
