According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases), "Ehe Zhong" (Malignant Nuclear Swelling) refers to lumps that suddenly appear within the muscle tissue, linked together like plums or apricots, with smaller ones resembling bean grains. There is soreness and pain inside the skin, and the pain wanders left and right throughout the body, arising abruptly. This condition is caused by wind-pathogen carrying toxicity. It also resembles the toxicity of "She Gong" (a type of toxic aquatic insect). Initially, there is no fixed location, and it often presents as a lingering pain. If not treated immediately, the toxin enters the abdomen, causing restlessness and aversion to cold, which can be fatal. If it persists for a long time without healing, it may transform into a fistula or ulcer.
*Duan Ju Fang* (Short Drama Formulas) states: Patients suffering from Ehe disease have lumps in the flesh that suddenly appear, linked like plum or apricot pits, small ones like bean grains. There is soreness and pain in the skin and flesh, with pain wandering left and right through the body, accompanied by high fever and aversion to cold. This resembles various sores, scrofula (Luo Li), and tendon knots. Those sores and scrofula usually arise from existing wounds and are slow-progressing diseases without toxicity. In contrast, Ehe disease arises abruptly, possesses toxicity, and if untreated, the toxin entering the abdomen causes restlessness and death. This disease is common in the southern regions, caused by contracting warm winds in winter, which then clash with sudden cold qi in spring and summer, leading to the coagulation of qi and formation of this toxin. It is suitable to take Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic Forsythia Decoction) and apply a thin paste made from Adzuki Beans externally to dissipate the swelling. One can also boil Wuxiang Tang, strain the dregs, and frequently wash and soak the affected area. After the swelling subsides, apply Danshen Gao (Salvia Ointment) to the remaining nodules to make them disappear completely; if they do not fully resolve, continue applying the Adzuki Bean paste.

Boil these five ingredients in 6 sheng of water until 2.5 sheng remains. Adjust temperature and divide into three doses. If not cured, prepare again, allowing the full dose to be consumed.
Alternatively, use 1 liang of each of the Five Aromatics, boil in 4 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains, and divide into two doses. Apply the dregs to the swelling; this is highly effective.
*Seng Shen Fang* (Monk Shen's Formulas): Whenever one contracts E Zhong, it strikes suddenly. Initially, it is as large as half a plum or peach, with or without a nucleus, painful or painless. It grows very rapidly, becoming as large as a chicken or duck egg in an instant, making it difficult to treat. As heat increases, restlessness and spasms occur. The swelling toxin invades internally, blocking blood and qi, preventing breath flow, leading to death within two nights. Upon first noticing this disease, urgent action is required. Moxibustion should be applied to the center of the swelling and around its perimeter, spaced 5 fen apart, encircling the entire swelling. Apply 21 moxa cones (San Qi Zhuang). For severe swelling, increase the number of cones to achieve cure. If the swelling is progressing, continue moxibustion along the previous boundary until it stops.
Another formula: Crush freshwater fish and apply to the swelling.
Another formula: Consume raw sliced freshwater fish with minced garlic.
