The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: The sites for acupuncture and moxibustion are all locations of the joints, acupoints, Shu-stream points, and Mu-transport points. If the disease is severe, wind pathogen attacks the wound. Since blood and Qi travel together, when wind pathogen invades Qi, it agitates Blood, causing Blood to flow out from the moxa wound. When Qi is excessive, Blood does not stop, a condition known as "Fa Hong" (Eruption of Flood).
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides a prescription for stopping bleeding from acupuncture/moxibustion wounds:
Burn human feces into ash and apply it to the wound. (Note: It is now considered appropriate to seal it with roasted horse dung.)
Another prescription: Powder dead dung beetles (*Scarabaeidae*), mix with lard, and apply.
The *Fan Wang Fang* provides a prescription for stopping bleeding from moxa wounds:
Drip juice from *Eclipta prostrata* (Lianzi Cao, 莲子草) to stop bleeding; in winter, apply the fresh, undried herb directly. (Note: The *Bencao* records: *Eclipta prostrata* (Lichang, 鳢肠), also known as Lianzi Cao, stops bleeding immediately when applied to acupuncture/moxibustion wounds or cases of "Fa Hong" where bleeding cannot be stopped.)
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* further states: Wounds caused by metal blades often undergo various changes. If pressing the wound edges feels dry and tight, new muscle tissue will not grow. Yellow-green fluid oozes out, the wound edges feel cold, the flesh wastes away and smells foul. Initially red blood flows, followed by black blood. If the wound resembles cooked rot, or if bleeding is unceasing accompanied by cold sweat, such cases are mostly ominous.
If the collateral vessels are severed, specifically at the inner thigh/groin area, near the Tianchuang point, eyebrow angle, transversely across the gastrocnemius muscle, above/below the breasts, or at the Jiutui point and lower abdomen near the pubic hair, urine may leak from the wound. If Qi rushes upward like in Ben Tun syndrome (Panic Disease), or if brain matter protrudes, such wounds are mostly fatal with little chance of recovery.
It also states: For metal blade wounds, in winter, one wears thick cotton padding for warmth, so bandaging should be thin; in summer, one wears light and cool clothing, so bandaging should be thick.
The *Fan Wang Fang* states: When bandaging metal blade wounds, use old cloth or silk, neither too loose nor too tight, similar to tying a sash.
The *Ge Shi Fang* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
In an emergency, chop mulberry branches, collect the white latex, and apply thickly to the wound.
Another prescription: Burn horse dung into ash and apply to the wound.
Another prescription: Apply thick layers of *Ferro Oxydum Rubrum* (Duanshi, 锻石) and bandage; this stops bleeding quickly and promotes healing. If Duanshi is unavailable, sifted ordinary plant ash can be used.
Another prescription: For puncture wounds while traveling in mountains with bleeding, if no medicine is available, apply *Puerariae Lobatae Folium* (Gegen Ye,
Another prescription: Apply *Pterocarpus santalinus* sawdust (Zitan Xie,
Another prescription: Urine is also effective.
The *Qianjin Fang* states: For metal blade wounds with unbearable stabbing pain that do not respond to various methods:
Take one bunch of scallion whites (*Allii Fistulosi Bulbus*), add three sheng of water, boil briefly, and soak the wound to relieve pain.
It also states: A prescription for metal blade wounds with irritability and fullness:
Take one sheng of *Phaseoli Semen Rubrum* (Chixiaodou, 赤小豆), soak in vinegar, roast until dry, then soak again. Repeat for three days until the color turns black. Grind into powder. Take half a fangcun bi (measure) orally, three times daily.
The *Duanju Fang* provides a prescription for metal blade wounds of any size, whether injured in winter or summer, with bleeding:
Immediately apply white ash and bandage. If the wound is deep and you do not want it to heal immediately, add a small amount of *Talcum* (Huashi, 滑石). Talc prevents immediate closure and also relieves pain. Alternatively, add a small amount of *Ostrea Concha* (Muli, 牡蛎). If white ash is suddenly unavailable, ordinary plant ash can be used. If there are maggots in the pus, apply white ash. Three times daily, the maggots should be expelled. These are methods from Liu Tian's prescriptions, likely kept secret.
The *Liu Juanzi Fang* provides Danggui San (Angelica Decoction) for treating unbearable pain and restlessness from metal blade wounds and carbuncles:
*Dang Gui Radix* (1 liang), *Gan Cao Radix et Rhizoma* (1 liang), *Luo Bu Radix* (1 liang), *Cinnamomi Cortex* (1 liang), *Atractylodes lancea* root (Mu Zhan Si, 1 liang, resembling Hou Po with longitudinal textures).
Grind these five herbs together and sieve. Take half a fangcun bi with water, three times during the day and once at night.
The *Longmen Fang* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
Chew *Brassica rapa* leaves (Disong Cao, 地菘草) and apply. (Note: The *Bencao* records: Wild *Brassica rapa* found by the road is a secret remedy for metal blade wounds. Tao Hongjing notes: Crush and apply.)
Another prescription: Burn blue cloth into ash and apply.
The *Jiyao Fang* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
Apply fresh *Artemisia annua* (Qinghao, 青蒿) to stop pain, stop bleeding, and generate flesh.
Another prescription: Mix 2 parts *Ostrea Concha* (Muli, 牡蛎) with 1 part *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao, 石膏), grind into powder, and dust onto the wound to stop bleeding.
It also states: For maggots in the wound, roast apricot kernels, crush, and apply.
It also states: A prescription for knife and axe wounds:
*Puerariae Lobatae Radix* powder is a key herb for stopping bleeding in metal blade wounds; it also treats tiger and dog bites. Drinking its juice is beneficial.
Another prescription: Crush *Winter Cherry* (Naidong, 耐冬) and apply; it heals immediately.
*Tao Hongjing's Bencao Commentary* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
Crush *Sedum aizoon* leaves (Jingtian Ye, 景天叶) and apply.
Another prescription: Crush *Allium macrostemon* bulbs (Xie Bai, 薤白) and apply.
*Su Jing's Bencao Commentary* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
Crush *Lapis Calcitae* (Luoshi, 落石) and apply.
Another prescription: Apply fresh *Artemisia capillaris* (Caohao, 草蒿) to stop bleeding and generate flesh.
The *Yimen Fang* provides prescriptions for stopping pain and bleeding in metal blade wounds:
Cook *Artemisia argyi* leaves (Ai Ye, 艾叶), place on the wound, and bandage; this is miraculous.
Another prescription: Apply mulberry wood ash to the wound; this is extremely effective for stopping pain and bleeding.
The *Jiudan Danyan Fang* provides prescriptions for metal blade wounds:
Chew raw yellow millet (Suhuang, 粟黄) and apply.
Another prescription: Mix *Ferro Oxydum Rubrum* (Duanshi, 锻石) with lard, heat until red hot, and apply.
