According to the *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases): The skin on the face, neck, and body turns white, differing from the normal skin color, without pain or itching. This condition is called "Baidian" (Vitiligo). It is caused by the invasion of Wind pathogen.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides the following formula for treating Baidian:
Grind Alumen (Fanshi) and Sulfur (Liuhuang) in equal proportions into powder, mix with Vinegar (Cu), and apply to the affected area.
Another prescription:
Take one he (approx. 100ml) of raw Sesame Oil (Huma You) orally, three times a day, gradually increasing the dose to five he (approx. 500ml). Avoid cold/raw foods, pork, chicken, fish, and garlic. Take five sheng (approx. 5000ml) in total for recovery.
Yet another prescription:
Rub the affected area until the skin breaks, then apply the white latex/sap of the Ficus religiosa (Luomo Bai Zhi). Apply daily until cured. Alternatively, boil water from this plant and wipe the area.
The *Xinlu Fang* (Newly Recorded Prescriptions) offers a formula for Baidian:
Crush Changsi Cao (Changsi Grass) to extract juice and apply it, three times a day.
Another prescription:
Crush Apricot Kernels (Xingren) into a paste, mix with Egg White (Jizi Bai), and apply, three times a day.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions by Master Ge) states: Vitiligo is also known as "Bailai" (White Leprosy) or "Longshi" (Dragon's Lick). This is difficult to treat. Select dried bitter gourd (Kuhu) that has been dried through the winter, pierce a hole in its head, about the size of a coin.
The *Luyan Fang* (Recorded Verified Prescriptions) provides a formula for Baidian:
Wrap the affected area with Lotus Leaves (He Ye), ensuring the leaves adhere. [Note: The text mentions wrapping with something foul/rotten, likely implying a specific traditional preparation or context not fully clear in isolation, but literally translated here]. First, wipe the area to make it warm, then apply; it will heal.
The *Jiyao Fang* (Extremely Important Prescriptions) provides an ointment for Baidian:
Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root prepared side-product (Fuzi, 3 liang), Aconitum kusnezoffii root (Tianxiong, 3 liang), Saposhnikovia divaricata root (Fangfeng, 2 liang), Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root unprepared (Wutou, 3 liang).
Decoct these ingredients in three sheng of Pig Fat (Zhugao). Apply the resulting ointment to the affected area.
The *Liu Juanzi Fang* (Prescriptions by Liu Juanzi) treats "Baiding" (Vitiligo):
Collect sap flowing eastward from tree hollows. Scrape and wash the white patches two or three times; it will heal. Sap from Maple trees (Fengshu) is superior.
Another prescription:
Take one raw Chicken Egg (Ji Dan), soak it in Vinegar (Ku Jiu) until the vinegar covers the shell. When the shell is about to dissolve and break, first apply the Egg White, then the Egg Yolk. Reapply when dry.
Also recorded: For treating white patches on the neck and face that spread like tinea but have no sores:
Take dried Eel (Manli Yu), roast it to extract the fat/oil, and apply it. First, wipe the patch and gently scrape it with your hand until it feels slightly dry and painful, then apply the eel fat. It will heal.
According to the *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun*: The skin on the face and body turns red, differing from normal skin color. Some lesions are palm-sized, others coin-sized, without itching or pain. This is called "Chici" (Red Macules/Patches).
The *Qianjin Fang* provides a formula for Chici:
Mix Ink (Mo), Garlic (Dasuan), and Eel Blood (Shan Xue) together and apply to the affected area.
Another prescription:
Wipe the area with a silver instrument until it becomes warm; the redness will subside. If not cured, continue wiping frequently until it stops.
The *Ruyi Fang* (Prescriptions Fulfilling Wishes) describes methods for treating Baidian and Chici:
Wash the area with water collected inside bamboo stalks (described as resembling horse urine).
The *Xu Bo Fang* (Prescriptions by Xu Bo) treats Ci Sha (Skin Spots/Mottling):
Take the root of Dutu (Dutu Gen). Grind this single herb with Vinegar (Ku Jiu) and apply it to the spots; it heals immediately.
