The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: Accumulation of wind, heat, phlegm, and fluid retention in the zang-fu organs leads to disharmony of yin and yang. Liver qi stagnates and generates heat; this heat rushes upward to the eyes, causing pain in the eyeballs.
In the *Zhi Yan Fang* (Formulas for Treating Eye Diseases), a formula for sudden prolapse of the eyeball and blue cataract is as follows:
Yueyan Shi (Swallow Droppings, 1 fen)
Zhendan (Cinnabar, 1 fen)
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 1 fen)
These three substances are pounded into a fine powder. It should be blown onto the painful area using a tube, which will result in immediate cure. (Note: The *Bencao* records that Yueyan refers to the swallow with a purple chest that is light and small, whereas Huyan has black spots on its chest and makes loud sounds.)
In the *Yimen Fang* (Formulas from the Medical Gate), a formula for eyes protruding spontaneously by one or two inches is as follows:
Immediately irrigate and soak the eyes with cold water, changing the water frequently. Within a short time, the eyeball should retract naturally, returning to its normal state.
