The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases) states: In cases of Jin Chuang (metal-induced traumatic wounds), at the initial stage of injury, if the sinews are partially severed, the circulation of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) becomes obstructed. Even if the wound surface heals, it may subsequently lead to numbness and loss of sensation in the affected limbs. If joints, trunk, elbows, wrists, knees, thighs, or ankles are severed by weapons, they can be reconnected. Immediate treatment while the wound is warm is required; as long as the blood and Qi have not cooled and coagulated, fragmented bones should be removed and tissues sutured together. If movement is not initiated promptly after healing, joint stiffness and inability to flex or extend may result. If bone fragments are not removed, the patient will suffer from painful irritability, continuous discharge of pus and blood, and restlessness. For injuries that severely damage the Shen Spirit due to metal blades, nine out of ten patients die, with only one surviving.
The *Duan Ju Fang* (Short Drama Formulas) provides a formula for reconnecting severed sinews in Jin Chuang:
Take the brain matter from crab heads and the marrow from crab legs, roast them, and apply the mixture into the wound; the sinews will regenerate and reconnect.
The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: In Jin Chuang with unceasing bleeding, if the pulse is large but stops abruptly, death will occur within twenty-one days (three sevens). If bleeding cannot be stopped, and the blood color changes from red to black, or turns yellow or white, accompanied by putrefaction and foul odor of muscles, and coldness with spasmodic tension at the wound site, death will ensue even if the wound appears healed.
The *Ge Shi Fang* records an emergency formula for Jin Chuang where sinews and vessels are severed, leading to uncontrollable bleeding and eventual death from blood loss:
Urgently take three finger-pinches of salt, stir-fry until hot, and administer with wine.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records a "Saliva Method" for stopping bleeding in Jin Chuang. The incantation states:
"This person has suffered misfortune today, injured by this weapon. I appeal to the Heavenly King above and the Earthly King below. Let clear blood cease flowing, let turbid blood cease rising. A hundred kinds of fine herbs are inferior to mature saliva." Apply saliva fourteen times daily; bleeding will stop. (Note: The *Ru Yi Fang* writes this as "Shen Ruo Tu".)
Another formula: Huangbo (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 jin / catty) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 liang / tael).
Sift these two ingredients into powder, mix with wine, and administer one fangcun bi (a measure roughly equivalent to a teaspoon) per dose, three times daily.
Another formula: Crush fresh Cheqiancao (Plantaginis Herba) to extract juice and apply externally.
Another formula: Apply spider membrane to the wound; bleeding will stop immediately.
The *Meng Shen Shi Jing* (Meng Shen's Food Classic) provides a formula for treating bleeding in Jin Chuang:
Apply leaves of Ji (Cirsii Japonici Herba) to seal the wound.
The *Fan Wang Fang* provides a formula for treating bleeding in Jin Chuang:
Wrap the wound tightly with thick Baihui (white ash/quicklime).
The *Qi Po Fang* provides a formula for treating bleeding in Jin Chuang:
Chew Shuyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) in the mouth and apply the paste to the wound; avoid wind exposure to ensure early recovery.
The *Ji Yao Fang* provides a formula for stopping continuous bleeding in Jin Chuang:
Apply Shu Ai (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, prepared/moxa) to the wound.
Another formula: Apply Moshiang (Musk) powder.
Another formula: Cover the wound with dried horse manure. Note: Applying heat via moxibustion before covering is effective.
The *Guang Li Fang* provides a formula for stopping bleeding in Jin Chuang:
Apply Qilinjie (Dragon's Blood/Santalum Album Resin) powder.
Another formula: Chop a mulberry tree and collect the white sap to apply to the wound.
