The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: The Qingfu snake (Green Viper, *Qing She*), which is bright green in color, prefers to inhabit green trees and bamboo. Its color blends with that of the trees and bamboo, making it difficult for humans to perceive. If a person walks in a forest and a snake falls upon their neck or back, although this snake rarely bites people normally, if it does bite, the victim will certainly die. This snake has no fixed shape; the largest individuals are no more than four or five chi long. People generally call it the "Qing Tiao Snake" (Green Strip Snake), implying its color is identical to branches, making it hard to notice at first glance. Its tail is two or three cun long, and those with black tails are named [missing character]. Its venom is extremely potent; a bite causes immediate death.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Prescriptions by Ge Hong) states: A bite from the Qingfu snake causes immediate death. Prescription for treating bites from Qingfu snakes in bamboo forests: Moxibustion of three moxa cones directly on the wound will prevent the poison from spreading. If mugwort is unavailable, scraping bamboo bark and paper can be formed into pills for application. If neither is available, apply hot ash to the burned wound.
Another prescription: Break open the comb of a black chicken to obtain blood, and apply it while hot to the wound.
The *Fan Wang Fang* (Prescriptions by Fan Wang) for treating Qingfu snake bites: Apply a powder of Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) and dried ginger (Ganjiang, 干姜) to the wound; this is effective.
The *Ge Shi Fang* for treating a snake coiling around a person and refusing to let go: Pour hot water over it, and it will release. If hot water is unavailable, urinating on it will also cause it to release. (Current commentary: The *Qianjin Fang* and *Jiyan Fang* agree with this.)
The *Ge Shi Fang* for treating a snake that has entered a person's mouth and cannot get out: Apply moxibustion to the snake's tail, and it will exit. If fire is unavailable, use a knife to cut around the snake's tail skin until it breaks, then pull gently; the skin will slip off backwards, allowing the snake to be removed.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) for treating a snake that has entered a person's mouth and cannot get out: Cut open the snake's tail with a knife, insert three or four raw Sichuan peppercorns (Shengjiao, 生椒), and the snake will come out shortly.
The *Ge Shi Fang* for treating a snake bite where the fang is broken off and embedded in the flesh, causing unbearable pain: Take the liver of a toad (Xiamu, 虾蟆) and apply it to the wound; the fang will emerge immediately. (The *Duanju Fang* agrees with this.)
Furthermore, regarding treatment for injuries caused by snake bones piercing the skin, resulting in toxic pain, swelling, and heat, which are no different from snake bites: Take Iron Efflorescence (Tiejing, 铁精) the size of a soybean and blow it into the wound using a tube.
Another prescription: Burn a dead mouse, grind it into powder, and apply it to the wound.
The *Seng Shen Fang* (Prescriptions by Monk Shen) for treating a snake fang broken off and embedded in the flesh: Apply fresh blood from a live mouse to the wound, wrap it with cotton, and the fang will emerge after two days.
Another prescription: For injuries caused by snake bones piercing the skin, take Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) the size of a soybean and insert it into the wound.
