Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) 1 liang, Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) 1 liang, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 7 qian 5 fen, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 5 qian (stir-fried with honey).
Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
To dispel wind, one must first nourish blood; to treat dampness, one must first strengthen the spleen. This is a fixed principle. This syndrome involves wind and water mutually attacking each other, which is not comparable to wind generated by blood deficiency. Therefore, only use herbs that dispel wind, drain water, and strengthen the spleen, without the need to add blood-nourishing herbs. Once the water qi is eliminated and the couli (skin pores and interstices) become solid, the wind-water pathogen cannot remain alone.
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum) 4 liang, Fuling (Poria) 4 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (stir-fried with honey), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (stir-fried) 2 liang.
The formula merely dries dampness and strengthens the spleen, without using herbs to warm the kidney. This is because this syndrome involves accumulated dampness sinking downward into the kidney, rather than disease caused by cold water of the kidney. If the constitution is deficient and cold, adding a small amount of Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) would also be acceptable.
Heiqianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) 4 liang (stir-fried), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 2 liang (soaked in wine), Gansui (Kansui Radix) (wrapped in flour and baked), Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) (wrapped in flour and baked), Jing Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos) (stir-fried with vinegar), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (stir-fried), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) 1 liang, Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) 5 qian, Qingfen (Calomelas) 1 qian.
Make into water pills.
Zhongjing’s Shizao Tang (Ten Jujube Decoction) is already extremely harsh and severe; this formula is even more severe and harsh. Even if both the physical form and righteous qi are substantial, how could it bear this? I believe these types of syndromes are entirely due to yin knotting, not yang obstruction. One should use formulas containing Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) combined with liver-soothing and water-draining agents. Such methods must absolutely not be used.
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Dafupi (Tomentosae Citri Grandis Pericarpium), Fulingpi (Poria Cum Ramis), Jiaomu (Zanthoxyli Semen), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Chixiaodou (Phaseoli Angularis Semen), Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix) in equal parts.
Decoct with Jiangpi (Zingiberis Pericarpium).
Shuzao Yin (Drain-Deep Infusion), despite its auspicious name and slightly milder herbs compared to Zhouche Wan (Boat Cart Pill), yet I have seen those who consume Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix) inevitably suffer from severe diarrhea. The chest and abdomen may temporarily expand, but bloating returns shortly after, leaving no hope for survival. Generally, if water pathogens exit through the anterior yin (urethra), life can be preserved; if they exit through the posterior yin (anus), death is certain. Students of medicine must be cautious!
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (stir-fried in earth), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (stir-fried with honey), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (stir-fried with ginger juice), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Dafupi (Tomentosae Citri Grandis Pericarpium), Caodoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Mugua Pian (Chaenomelis Fructum Slice), Heijiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Nigrum).
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
Under the indications, there are phrases describing "sallow complexion, short voice, no thirst, frequent urination and defecation," indicating that this syndrome is spleen-kidney deficiency-cold. One should use Xiangsha Liujun Zi Tang (Costus and Amomum Six Gentlemen Decoction) combined with formulas that warm the kidney and leach out dampness. If one merely engages in breaking qi and promoting diuresis, will not the sallow complexion become even more emaciated?
