Treats hernia pain.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi), Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha, referred to here as Tangqiuzi in the text but clarified as Shanzha for processing), and Litchi Seed (Lizhihe) in equal parts, ground into fine powder. Take on an empty stomach with long-flowing water.
This is a medicine for the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Evodiae Fructus enters the Qi aspect of Jueyin, warming the Liver and expelling cold; Gardeniae Fructus clears heat fire from the Triple Burner, excreting it via the Bladder; Aurantii Fructus promotes Qi movement and breaks accumulations; Crataegi Fructus disperses blood stasis and grinds down masses; Litchi Seed is double-knotted and resembles the testicles, entering the Liver and Kidney to dispel cold and resolve stagnation, thus used as a guiding herb. (Zhu Danxi said: Regarding hernia, from the *Suwen* onwards, it has always been considered a cold syndrome. However, there are cases of cold without hernia, implying there must be principles to understand this. I ponder that this disease originates from damp-heat in the meridians; after long-term stagnation, external cold is contracted. The damp-heat is constrained and causes pain. Discussing it solely as a cold syndrome may be incomplete. Ancient formulas using Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Wutou) and Gardeniae Fructus in equal parts decocted as soup also work quickly. Later, modifying this formula according to symptoms yielded consistent results. One must treat based on the degree of damp-heat. There are also cases triggered by deficiency, where Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) should be the sovereign herbs, assisted by draining and guiding agents; the pulse is deep, tight, yet hollow and large. Note: Draining and guiding herbs include Persicae Semen (Taoren), Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Zhishi - *note: text says Zhishi but context implies Ziziphi Spinosae Fructus or similar, standard is Zhishi/Aurantii Fructus*, Black Gardeniae Fructus (Heizhi), Toosendan Fructus (Chuanlian), Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusu), Eugeniae Flos (Dingxiang), and Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang). Gardeniae Fructus and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Fuzi) decocted in wine with salt taken internally is called Zhifu Decoction. Zhu Danxi said: Wutou

Treats four types of hernia (swelling and hardness of the scrotum and testicles, without pain or itching, termed hernia. It may also cause colicky pain radiating to the umbilicus and abdomen. The four types include intestinal hernia, egg hernia, etc.).
Aurantii Fructus (Juhe), Toosendan Fructus (Chuanlianzi), Sargassum (Haizao), Laminaria Thallus (Haidai), Ecklonia Thallus (Kunbu), Persicae Semen (Taoren, 2 liang), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusu), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo), Ziziphi Spinosae Fructus (Zhishi), Akebiae Caulis (Mutong), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin), and Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang, 5 qian). Form pills with wine paste. Take with salt water or wine.
This is a medicine for the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Hernia arises from cold-dampness, affecting either the Qi or Blood aspects. Although symptoms manifest in the Kidney, the root lies in the Liver (the Jueyin Liver meridian connects to the genital organs). Aurantii Fructus and Aucklandiae Radix enter the Qi aspect of Jueyin to promote Qi movement; Persicae Semen and Corydalis Rhizoma enter the Blood aspect of Jueyin to invigorate Blood; Toosendan Fructus and Akebiae Caulis guide heat from the Small Intestine and Bladder downward through urination, thereby removing dampness; Cinnamomi Ramulus pacifies the Liver, warms the Kidney, and tonifies the Fire of the Gate of Vitality, thereby dispelling cold; Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex and Ziziphi Spinosae Fructus both move stagnant fluids and break old blood stasis; Ecklonia Thallus, Sargassum, and Laminaria Thallus are salty, moistening, descending, and softening, while their cold nature moves water to drain heat (dampness lingering becomes heat, cold lingering also becomes heat); together they are agents for dissipating swelling and resolving hardness. (Zhu Danxi said: For non-painful hernia, abstaining from sexual intercourse and rich flavors is indispensable. If so, Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Moutan Cortex (Shenqu - *note: Shenqu is usually Massae Medicamentae Fermentatae*), Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Ziziphi Spinosae Fructus (Zhishi), and Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia) are essential herbs. Adjustments should be made according to seasonal heat and cold; add Gardeniae Fructus for heat, Mirabilite (Poxiao) for hardness, and Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) for autumn and winter)
