Xue Bozong, whose origin is unknown, was skilled in using "Jin Qi" (a therapeutic method involving the control of vital energy through incantations or mental focus) to treat diseases (recorded in *Book of Song* and Wu Jun's *Spring and Autumn Annals of Qi*).
Xu Zhongrong, whose commandery of origin is unknown, served as the Grand Administrator of Puyang. He had a fondness for Huang-Lao Daoism (the philosophical school of Huangdi and Laozi) and lived in seclusion at Qinwang Mountain. A Daoist priest passed by and asked for water; Xu left him a gourd. The priest said, "If you cultivate this, your descendants will save the world with Daoist arts and attain high official positions (receiving an income of two thousand shi)." Xu opened the gourd and found a single volume of *Bianque Jingjing* (Mirror Classic of Bian Que). He studied it diligently, his fame spread throughout the land, and he eventually rose to the position of Grand Administrator of Puyang.
Daoist Hu Qia, whose origin is unknown, valued emptiness and tranquility, dwelled in the highest Dao, and dedicated himself to saving others. His medical skills were well-known.
Xu Wenbo, courtesy name Dexiu, was from Dongyang and served as the Grand Administrator of Taishan. He possessed learning and moral conduct and had a deep passion for medicine.
Xu Sibai, also from Dongyang, was the younger brother of Xu Wenbo. He was generous, transcendent, and outstanding among his peers. From a young age, he relied on his talent and possessed unique skills, while maintaining a benevolent character. He meticulously studied classical prescriptions (*Jingfang*), diagnostic principles, and prognostic techniques. He devoted himself to saving patients regardless of social status, traveling tirelessly to help them, often achieving miraculous results. He was particularly praised by his contemporaries (all recorded in *Book of Song*).
Seng Shen was a Buddhist monk during the Southern Dynasties' Qi and Song periods. He became famous for his medical skills in his youth. He treated conditions such as lower limb weakness (*Jiao Ruo*) and beriberi (*Xianggang Jiao*), earning the admiration of his contemporaries. He compiled over thirty volumes of old prescriptions from various masters, including Fa Cun. These prescriptions proved effective in clinical practice, and people of the time referred to them as *Shenshi Fang* (Prescriptions of Master Shen) (cited in *Preface and Discussion of Qianjin Fang*).
Liu Juanzi, whose origin is unknown, lived at the end of the Jin Dynasty. While hunting outside Danyang, he suddenly saw an object about two zhang high. He shot it, and it fled like lightning, making sounds like wind and rain. He did not dare to pursue it at night. The next day, he led his disciples and dozens of neighbors to track it down. At the foot of the mountain, they found a child. Liu asked, "What is your surname?" The child replied, "My master was shot by Liu Juanzi last night and used water to wash the wound." When asked who his master was, the child answered, "The Yellow Father Ghost." They returned the child to him. Soon, they heard the sound of pounding herbs and saw three figures in the distance: one lying down, one reading a book, and one pounding herbs. The three shouted together and charged forward, then fled, leaving behind a bundle of *Yongju Fang* (Formulas for Carbuncles and Ulcers) and a type of medicine. Liu Juanzi obtained them. Later, when campaigning north with Emperor Wu of Song, he applied the medicine to soldiers with wounds, resulting in immediate healing. Commentators believed that when sages act, Heaven assists them; thus, Heaven bestowed this upon Emperor Wu. Liu Juanzi used these formulas to treat illnesses with near-perfect success, compiling them into ten volumes titled *Guiyi Fang* (Ghost-Given Formulas) (from the Preface to *Guiyi Fang* by Gong Qingxuan).
