For fresh injuries with bleeding, immediately wash the wound with urine. For chronic wounds, the following prescription may be used:
*Wenge* (Clam Shell), *Jiangzhen Xiang* (Daemonorops Draco Resin), and *Renshen* (Ginseng Root).
Grind these three herbs in equal proportions into powder, apply dry to the wound site, and ensure it is tightly bandaged. Alternatively, use the following:
*Kufan* (Alumen, 7 qian) and *Ruxiang* (Frankincense, 3 qian).
Grind together into powder and apply to the wound. If the injury has been present for a long time and is ulcerated, the following prescription is suitable:
*Ruxiang* (Frankincense), *Moyao* (Myrrh, oil removed), *Sanqi* (Notoginseng Root, roasted), *Qingfen* (Calomel), *Ercha* (Catechu), each 3 qian; *Shexiang* (Musk, 4 fen); *Bingpian* (Borneol, 3 fen).
Grind all into powder, mix with white honey, and apply as a dressing. Healing occurs after a single application.
When an arrowhead penetrates into the bone and cannot be extracted, do not move it immediately to avoid damaging the bone. The treatment should utilize:
*Badou* (Croton Seed, one grain, processed, husked, but not scorched) and one live *Huoxianglang* (Dung Beetle).
Grind and stir-fry them together, then apply the paste to the wound site. After a short while, pain subsides and slight itching begins; this is a moment of extreme discomfort. Only at this point should you manipulate the area to extract the arrowhead. The patient will recover immediately.
For those poisoned by arrows, the internal and external skin and flesh must turn black, accompanied by excruciating pain. Treatment should first involve cutting open the skin and flesh with a knife to remove the arrowhead; then wash the wound with menstrual blood from a woman to detoxify. Alternatively, crush indigo (*Lanqing*) to extract juice, drink it, and apply it to the sore. If indigo is unavailable, soak blue cloth in water, wring out the juice, drink it, and also pour/wash the juice into the wound. Or, use equal parts of dried *Gange* (Kudzu Root) and salt, grind into powder, and apply to the sore; the toxin will naturally exit.
Note: There are three types of arrow poison: Barbarians in Jiaozhou and Guangzhou often use scorred copper for arrowheads, while those north of the Ling Mountains use juices from various snakes and insects applied inside the arrow shafts to soak the heads. These two types cause rapid swelling, boiling, and ulceration upon skin penetration, leading to death. However, when shooting pigs or dogs, although the animals become exhausted, they can survive because they consume human feces. If humans are poisoned by this type, they should immediately ingest feces, or extract juice by crushing and filtering, drink it, and apply it to the wound; symptoms subside quickly, otherwise, it is incurable. Another type is "She Wang" (Aconite preparation) used by modern hunters for deer and muntjac, applied to arrowheads. Humans poisoned by this become lethargic immediately. Those hit on thicker body parts may survive, but if near the chest or abdomen, urgent treatment is required. The prescriptions transmitted by Mr. Hua described above are specifically for She Wang poisoning. (Commentary by Sun Simiao)
