[Appendix: Plaster Prescription from the Cunjie Hall Pharmacy in Yangzhou]
Yuntai Plaster (also known as Kui Plaster, implying that this single plaster is sufficient). This plaster combines cold and hot properties, and attacking and tonifying methods. In the initial stage, it can dissipate swelling; when suppuration has formed, it can promote ulceration; once ulcerated, it can extract pus and remove necrotic tissue; after the toxin is completely expelled, the wound will naturally heal and contract. There is no need to administer exterior-releasing or interior-boosting medicines, nor is there any reliance on scalpels, Shengjiang Dan (Ascending and Descending Elixir), or medicinal wicks. Throughout the entire treatment process, only this one plaster is used, which is extremely simple and remarkably rapid in effect. For severe cases, "San Yao" (powdered medication sprinkled on wounds) is applied externally, assisted by other topical applications. It has been verified on tens of thousands of people with universal success. Furthermore, it can alleviate pain and can even be ingested orally; thus, it does not damage the Yuan Qi (Original Qi), and even for deficient individuals who do not require additional tonification, it can achieve therapeutic results.
This plaster treats generally: Back carbuncles (Fabei), Hand-binding sores (Dashou), Opposite-neck ulcers (Duikou), general carbuncles (Fa Ju), cervical lymphadenitis (Jinghe), breast abscesses (Ruyong), abdominal abscesses, lumbar abscesses, all un-named swellings and toxins, deep-seated flowing nodules (Fugu Liuzhu), malignant stubborn ulcers, snake bites, and dog bites. It treats all Yang-type syndromes and also treats half-Yin half-Yang syndromes; for Ding sores (carbuncles), apply with Ding-extracting medicine. It is contraindicated for Yin-type gangrenous sores (Yin Ju); use cautiously in pregnant women.

Use 30 jin of small-grind sesame oil (For every 1 jin of dry herbs, use 3 jin of oil; for every 1 jin of fresh herbs, use 1 jin plus a little oil). Fry the herbs in two batches until burnt/dried, remove dregs, combine the oils, and fry again. When the oil is ready (the oil should be "old"/over-refined), still add the Dan (lead litharge) in two batches (to prevent fire from being too strong and volatilizing the Dan. Use 7 liang of fried Dan for every 1 jin of purified oil). Collect the plaster. Then add lead powder (fried, 1 jin), purified pine resin (8 liang), Jin Tuo Seng, Chen Duan Shi (calcined, 4 liang each), yellow beeswax (4 liang), washed copper acetate (green vitriol residue), Ku Fan (Alumen Exsiccatum), Sheng Fan (Alumen), Yin Zhu (Realgar mixed with cinnabar?), Sao Pen Fen, Ming Xiong (Realgar), Zhi Ru Xiang (Frankincense processed), Zhi Mo Yao (Myrrh processed), Guan Gui (Cinnamon Twig), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Zhang Nao (Camphora), Su He You (Styrax Oil) — each 1 liang; Proposed additions: Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen, 5 qian), Guang Mu Xiang (Agastaches Rhizoma, 1 liang), Niu Jiao (Bovis Colla, 4 liang steamed with wine). After the Dan is collected, stir until warm (warmth test: place one drop on a surface; if it does not pop/sizzle), then add the remaining ingredients. Stir over a thousand times to ensure uniformity; more stirring is better. Do not fry these additives. Wait until the resulting beads are limp and non-sticky. Add She Xiang (Musk) according to discretion. All plasters should be prepared using this method. If there is insufficient oil, add 2-3 jin as needed. The key to preparing plasters is achieving a balance where the heat is neither too high ("old") nor too low ("tender"), fitting the formula requirements.
Appendix: Wulong Pill Topical Application (Apply at the initial stage to dissipate spontaneously; apply after ulceration to prevent spread; it extracts pus and promotes healing, usable throughout the course; also applicable for Phlegm-fluid retention, flowing nodules, and traumatic injuries).

Add 8 jin of blackened wheat flour and boil again. When the consistency is appropriate (neither too dry nor too wet), pour onto a clean table. Immediately mix in the powder of the aforementioned 30 herbs and 1 jin of Elm flour. Rub evenly to form pill-shaped cakes. To use, grind with vinegar and apply topically (add Pig Bile for Heat syndromes; add Ginger juice and Scallion juice for Cold syndromes). Appendix: Ba Ding Huang Wan Pill (Ancient formulas used Cao Wu, Nan Xing, Cao Shuang, Ba Shuang, Xiong Huang, Zhu Sha, Yu Jin, Qing Fen, Chan Su, Chan Tui, Quan Xie, Zao, She Xiang, etc.)
Ingredients:
Song Xiang (Pine Resin, purified white variety, 2 liang), Bi Ma Ren (Ricini Semen, 4 liang).
Pound and knead thoroughly on a stone. Add Yin Zhu (Cinnabaris), Ming Xiong (Realgar), Qing Fen (Calomelas) — each 3 qian; Piao Huang Dan (Yellow Litharge, 5 qian); Wu Gong (Scolopendra, 3 strips); Quan Xie (Scorpio, 3 pieces); Chan Su (Toad Venom, 2 qian). Grind into powder, stretch/knead a thousand times. Add Snail or Toad Liver, pound into paste, and mix/stretch until uniform. Add Bing Pian (Borneolum Syntheticum) and She Xiang (Musk) — each 5 fen. Shape into small pills the size of mung beans. Adhere to the plaster. Apply to the head of the sore. Surround the outer circle with Wulong Pill paste. After 2-3 days, remove and inspect. If a long strip of hard pus is discharged, this is the root of the Ding (carcinoid/toxic nodule). For Red Thread Ding (erysipelas-like infection), use a magnetic blade to cut through the red thread line segment by segment, then reapply. For Finger Ding, wrap the finger with a bull gallbladder containing the medicine. For Lip Ding, use glutinous rice water to grind and apply the medicine (and prick the Weizhong acupoint). After the Ding root is extracted, use Long Hu San to conclude treatment, or add Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian, capable of opening Ding orifices), one spider, and three slices of Shan Jia (Manis Squama), make into pills, and apply using Bie Ji (Bletillae Rhizoma) ground with Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) water.
The above prescriptions were obtained from Weiyang (Yangzhou). Following the formulas yields consistent and reliable results. Benevolent gentlemen, according to their means, donate funds to prepare plasters and medicines for widespread distribution, which is also a method of benefiting society. Considering that remote rural areas often suffer from external diseases, sudden onset makes obtaining prescriptions difficult. Seeking medical care in the city may lack travel expenses or time, leading to delays that render conditions incurable, which is truly lamentable! Those who come to the city endure summer heat and catch cold/wind, causing mild conditions to become severe, which happens frequently. It would be far more convenient to subsidize delivery at various township markets. However, herbs must be carefully selected and processed according to standard procedures to be effective. The treatments for various conditions primarily rely on Yuntai Plaster, with three attached formulas to assist. If produced in the countryside, skilled craftsmen may be hard to find temporarily; one may ask a medical bureau to compound them, or purchase finished plasters from the Cunjie Hall Pharmacy in Yangzhou for self-distribution. Both options are acceptable. Benevolent and charitable gentlemen surely share this sentiment.
